POPSHomosexual behavior due to genetics and environmental factors “Overall, genetics accounted for around 35 per cent of the differences between men in homosexual behavior and other individual-specific environmental factors (that is, not societal attitudes, family or parenting which are shared by twins) accounted for around 64 per cent. In other words, men become gay or straight because of different developmental pathways, not just one pathway.” For women, genetics explained roughly 18 per cent of the variation in same-sex behavior, non-shared environment roughly 64 per cent and shared factors, or the family environment, explained 16 per cent. The study shows that genetic influences are important but modest, and that non-shared environmental factors, which may include factors operating during fetal development, dominate.

POPSRuling Upholds Homosexual's Right To Prance Around Demanding Attention And Being A Drama Queen
The ruling, which effectively affirms the right of all attention whores to make a complete spectacle of themselves, is already being contested by conservative groups and is expected to be appealed. Carmichael, who also goes by the stage name "Lotta Menn," made a tearful, half-hour-long finger-snapping statement to the press following the historic decision. Enlarge Image Drag Queen A drag queen celebrates outside the Connecticut Supreme Court building. "This is the most wonderful moment of my life, and I thank you all!" Carmichael said while wearing his trademark purple-sequined jacket, oversized Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses, and short shorts. He then blew kisses at the assembled reporters, twirled for photographers, and lifted his arms several times above his head in the late-'80s "raise the roof" celebratory dance move. "I only hope I can recover from the living hell I've gone through these past four months—living hell! I am so serious, you guys!"

POPSnew audio format mt9 - may take off If selected as an international format, the MT9 technology can earn big for both Audizen and ETRI, a governmental research institute. ETRI said that it holds three international and six domestic patents for the technology and is planning to file two more this year. The MT9 files are served in an album package. Audizen is currently selling a limited choice of albums at 2,000 won to 3,000 won on its Web site. More albums are being recorded in the format and even very old albums, such as Queen's or Deulgookhwa's, can be made into MT9 files if they have a digitally re-mastered music source

POPSToday's Broad Is A Kick-Ass Woman "But, maybe yesterday's broads, and the modern climate change, have given rise to a new female form: the kick-ass woman. That would be: Helen Mirren, Christiane Amanpour, Tina Fey, Melissa Etheridge, Sarah Silverman, and not least Queen Latifah, who comes closer to the broads of yesteryear than just about anyone. Sure, kick-ass women may avoid trans fats and teeter around on ridiculously high heels at red carpet events, but they know who they are, and so no one would (or at least should) think of asking them to be something they're not. I bet they'd make Mae West proud."

POPSDealing with Energy Vampires (negative people) I found 5 and 6 interesting. Think the focus should be on how to remain 'energetic' oneself while helping unhappy people, rather than shutting people out. One day, now maybe or soon, any of us could become 'negative' and need a listening ear.

POPSShe Was Interested In One thing--And It Wasn't Espionage "In a new and fascinating biography, American academic Pat Shipman makes the case that, far from being the betrayer, she was the one betrayed, and by that breed she loved all her life - men. But in the story of Mata Hari, there was one thing that needed no sexing-up - Mata herself. Sex was the driving force of her life."

POPSEaster Not a Christian Holiday Like Christmas, it is "christianized" paganism. Why do modern Christians say "happy Easter", and glorify a pagan deity? Because of their mass indoctrination by corrupt churches, and family "traditions", imitated blindly. It is another merchandisers holiday, very lucrative, both by consumer products companies and corporate churches.

POPSHouse of Augustus in Rome opens to the public Experts say the frescoes are among the most splendid surviving examples of Roman wall paintings, on a par with those found in the towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Archaeologists believe they may have been painted by an Egyptian. In the large entrance hall, graffiti on one wall is believed to have been left by the builders, who seem to have sketched out geometric designs, possibly for mosaic floors, and left their names. In November last year archaeologists located a grotto deep beneath Augustus's imperial palace that may have been the shrine where ancient Romans worshipped Romulus, the founder of the city according to legend. Octavian, the great-nephew and adopted son of Julius Caesar, took the name Augustus on becoming sole ruler in 27BC after the civil wars that followed Caesar's assassination. His rise ended the Roman Republic and marked the beginning of the Roman Empire. He died in AD14.

POPSThe Blarney Stone The Blarney Stone is a block of bluestone built into the battlements of Blarney Castle, about five miles from Cork, Ireland. According to legend, kissing the stone endows the kisser with the gift of the gab (great eloquence or skill at flattery). It is claimed that the synonymy of "Blarney" with "empty flattery" derives from a circumstance in which Queen Elizabeth I, while requesting an oath of loyalty to retain occupancy of land, received responses from Cormac Teige McCarthy, the Lord of Blarney, which amounted to subtle diplomacy, and promised loyalty to the Queen without "giving in". Elizabeth proclaimed that McCarthy was giving her "a lot of Blarney", thus apparently giving rise to the legend.

POPSGrisly History Sir Hugh's wife asked for his bones to be buried on his family's Gloucestershire estate but only the head, a thigh bone and a few vertebrae were returned to her. These are the bones that are missing from the Hulton Abbey skeleton. In addition, the abbey formed part of the estate of Sir Hugh's brother-in-law, Hugh Audley, and it is thought the family may have chosen to bury what remained of their disgraced relative there.

POPSTheory of Sexual Selection:The Human Mind and the Peacock's Tale "There has been no genetic change since we were hunter-gatherers, but deep in the mind of modern man is a simple hunter-gatherer rule: strive to acquire power and use it to lure women who will bear heirs; strive to acquire wealth and use it to buy affairs with other men’s wives who will bear bastards . . . Wealth and power are means to women; women are means to genetic eternity. Likewise, deep in the mind of modern woman is the same hunter-gatherer calculator, too recently evolved to have changed much: strive to acquire a provider husband who will invest food and care in your children; strive to find a lover who can give those children first-class genes. Only if she is very lucky will they both be the same man . . . Men are to be exploited as providers of parental care, wealth and genes."

POPSBooks you should read before you die Most of the books on the list I have not heard of. Like most lists, and most people, they have different perspectives. I'm glad to see that Haruki Murakami has several books on the list. Though i do believe that his new novel After Dark and his short stories are better that his popular Kafka Currently I'm reading a Robert Ludlum (The Matarese Countdown), cant say that I'm that impressed. What are you reading? And is it worth reading.
