POPSPush for Kennedy Successor Stirs Political Storm
Now, with Mr. Kennedy dying three years before his term was up, some Massachusetts Democrats are reversing course, calling for Democratic Gov. Deval Patrick to appoint an interim replacement to hold office until the special election can be held. They now argue the state shouldn't be without full Senate representation for months, especially with pressing issues such as health care before Congress. The Massachusetts situation is the latest to erupt over filling vacant U.S. Senate seats, following particularly messy appointments in New York and Illinois. Away from the political infighting, mourners lamented Massachusetts's loss of clout in the U.S. Senate. "Whoever goes in will not have remotely close to the influence he had," said Ted Glynn of Boston. "That's a big concern." The question of how to fill Mr. Kennedy's seat is vexing Democrats. In 2004, Mr. Kennedy supported a special election rather than a gubernatorial appointment. Yet more recently, he wrote to Mr. Patrick . .

POPSObamaCare Patterned After RomneyCare Mitt Romney showed the democrats how to sneak this healthcare package past their constituents by hiding the true costs. (This is also just one good reason for republicans to not put up Romney as a future presidential candidate).

POPSIf you aren't sick now, you soon will be Unreal. But wait, Obama PROMISED his taxes would not effect anyone making under $250k a year. You mean he lied? No way. So, once GWB's tax cuts for the rich expire, the average family making $40,000 a year see an increase of over $1000 in federal taxes. Then, Cap & Trade will cost us around $4000 a year in higher utilities and costs (and I think that is way underestimated) Then, forced health care will run another $12k for a family. Then what? Wonder how we will pay to feed our kids? Oh, that's right, tax the "rich" and give the rest of us food stamps. Great plan. Really doubt it will workout for most of us.

POPS The Debunking Of Obama's Statement ABC 6 reported earlier today that Barney Frank flipped the President the bird -- metaphorically, that is -- by micro-managing GM's corporate activities. ..."The UAW is very appreciative of Congressman Frank's assistance," said Bob Madore, Director of UAW Region 9A. "The workers in Norton now have some time to show how important their plant is to GM's overall operations. Representative Frank is a congressman who doesn't just talk the talk for workers - he walks with us and we walk with him". A whole 80 employees qualifies as a "fundamental corporate decision"? Well, that debunking of Obama's statement didn't take long. Usually it's a full week before his public statements are exposed as pure fiction.

POPSSurprise!... Dems Push For Illegal Immigrants To Have Voting Rights Most “unfair,” she argues, is their exclusion from our democratic process. “They don’t feel that they have anyone to represent them . It’s because they’re not part of the democracy,” Richardson told fellow Democrats. What are these people trying to do? Put ACORN out of business? HT jules crittenden

POPSNObama's Automobile Team Scorns American Cars I'm sure a lot has to do with the snob factor. Elected democrats feel they are better than us and don't follow the standards they dictate to us. Me - I love my Dodge Ram quarter ton diesel 4X4 pickup truck I have converted to burn cooking oil instead of diesel. I only stop at gas stations to pee or buy coffee.

POPSTough Times: Congress Grew 13 Percent Richer In 2007
Rep Robin Hayes, R-N.C., ranks third, with $173.4 million. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., ranks sixth, with $62 million. In the Senate, the two Democrats from Massachusetts claimed two of the top three spots. Sen. John Kerry led the pack, with $336 million, while Sen. Edward M. Kennedy ranked third, with $104 million. Sen. Herb Kohl, D-Wis., ranked second, with $241.5 million. Overall, senators had a median net worth estimated at $1.7 million. The 535 members of Congress, who earn average annual salaries of $169,000 and receive cost-of-living pay increases, had a total net worth of $3.7 billion last year. Although some are likely to take a hit from Wall Street's woes, their average net worth soared by 61 percent from 2004 to 2007. Obama ranked as one of the biggest financial winners, with his net worth increasing from $800,000 in 2006 to $4.7 million last year McCain estimated at $28.5 million wealth attributed to his wife Cindy's family fortune.

POPSSen. Reid said ``no one knows what to do'' ``They already have the authority; it's just a question of moving it up a couple of years,'' House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank, of Massachusetts, told reporters yesterday. ``We're trying to work that out.'' Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd said the Fed also has the power to buy and dispose of bad debt stemming from the subprime-mortgage crisis. ``The Fed has the authority to move in this area,'' Dodd told reporters in Washington. Creating a separate agency to take on bad debt, akin to the Resolution Trust Corp. set up in 1989 to absorb losses from savings-and-loan associations, would take about a year, he said. Instead, the Fed should use its own authority to act. ``The last thing you need,''Sen Isakson R-Ga, said, ``are 535 people, not many of whom are that well-versed in financial markets, trying to do quick fixes to a market correction that's one of the more significant that we've ever seen.''

POPSThe Resentment Strategy
"What the G.O.P. is selling, in other words, is the pure politics of resentment; you’re supposed to vote Republican to stick it to an elite that thinks it’s better than you. And when Mr. Bush turned out not to be that smart after all, and his presidency crashed and burned, the angry right — the raging rajas of resentment? — became, if anything, even angrier. Humiliation will do that. That said, the experience of the years since 2000 — the memory of what happened to working Americans when faux-populist Republicans controlled the government — is still fairly fresh in voters’ minds. Furthermore, while Democrats’ supposed contempt for ordinary people is mainly a figment of Republican imagination, the G.O.P. really is the Gramm Old Party — it really does believe that the economy is just fine, and the fact that most Americans disagree just shows that we’re a nation of whiners. But the Democrats can’t afford to be complacent. Resentment, no matter how contrived, is a powerful force.

POPSRepublicans Spread Message of Democrats’ Disunity
Because of the Republican offensive, senior advisers to Obama and Clinton were furiously trying to extinguish constant reports of party unrest Monday morning before the convention had even officially begun. The RNC and the McCain campaign have already launched an ad entitled "Debra" that features one such disaffected Clinton supporter who says she is supporting McCain. In the ad, Wisconsin delegate Debra Bartosevich says that the New York senator has "the experience and the judgment to be president." "Now, in a first for me, I'm supporting a Republican, John McCain," Bartosevich says. “I respect his maverick and independent streak, and now he's the one with the experience and judgment. A lot of Democrats will vote McCain. It's OK, really." Monday night, the GOP was hosting a "Happy Hour for Hillary" in downtown Denver, and earlier in the day, the Republicans released their first of the week's daily "Not Ready '08" memos — this one titled "A Party Divided."

POPSDNC Launches TheNextCheney.com Republican National Committee spokesman Alex Conant said that instead of debating the energy crisis, Democrats are "obsessing over hypothetical political match-ups." "The DNC is having fun with Washington parlor games, but the rest of the nation is debating the merits of McCain's 'all-of-the-above' energy plan versus Obama's 'inflate-your-tires' approach," Conant said.

POPSCheney's office corrupts EPA regulations Officials with the White House and Cheney's office requested the removal of "any discussion of the human health consequences of climate change," wrote Burnett, who declined to tell reporters who specifically called for the changes. Burnett's letter also details efforts by the administration to influence the EPA's response to the U.S. Supreme Court's April 2007 decision in the case of Massachusetts vs EPA. The ruling requires the agency determine whether greenhouse gas emissions endanger public health. An "endangerment" finding would require the EPA to take action to regulate and limit greenhouse gas emissions.

POPSHealthcare Reform You Shouldn't Believe In
The most progressive way to fund such a system would be through an earmarked income tax, which would be more than offset by eliminating premiums and out-of-pocket expenses. This is not the same as Medicare for all. Medicare is embedded in our market-based entrepreneurial private system, and therefore experiences many of the same inflationary forces, including having to deal with profit-maximizing hospitals and physicians' groups. Doctors' fees are skewed to reward highly paid specialists for doing as many expensive tests and procedures as possible. As a result, Medicare inflation is almost as high as inflation in the private sector and similarly unsustainable. ...the private insurance industry has managed to convince many political leaders, including progressives, that a single-payer system is unrealistic. But what is truly unrealistic is anything else. My greatest concern about the Massachusetts plan is that when it unravels, people will draw the wrong lesson.

POPSFormer House Speaker Hastert:::McCain 'Allied With Democrats' The former House speaker has not had a lot of good to say about McCain in recent years. He contended that on agenda items under the Republican-controlled Congress, “it just seems like everything we did, John was someplace else.” “It was McCain-Kennedy, it was McCain-Lieberman, it was McCain-Feingold on campaign finance reform,” Hastert said, noting Democratic co-sponsors. “He was against us on tax cuts and his form of immigration reform was to open the gates and let everybody in.” “He is a moderate,” the former speaker said. “In almost everything he’s done, he’s done (things) against what mainstream Republicans thought and he’s allied with Democrats. He was always the undependable vote in the Senate.” McCain's campaign thinks they can smooth things over. "We look forward to the Speaker's support in the general election," said Steve Schmidt, a senior adviser to McCain.

POPSRomney-The Best Choice? (For Republicrats) I lived in MA for 20 years as well, and was there throughout Romney's term (up to a year ago). I would NEVER vote for him, EVER! If you are one of the new, moderate, "reprogressive" democrats or a neo republiCON, then perhaps he is your cup of tea, in fact, if this is you, then absolutely, vote Romney, otherwise steer clear and do not be fooled. Look at his record.

POPSGovernment Schools Schools have a difficult time teaching math, science, english, and social studies. Government schools have no reason to be introducing a book on same sex marriages to children of any grade level. As Romney says, it should be left to the parents.
