Mercury and Autism
robm47
by robm47  11-7-2009
The controversy rages on. A recent study said that because the mercury levels found in people's blood with and without autism were basically the same, there was no link. But, as this clip suggests, the place to be testing mercury levels isn't in the blood, but in the tissue.

What I Saw at the 9/12 March
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  9-13-2009    4
Wow! There is still a lot of misinformation floating around out there. Most people have good hearts and are fearful of what direction they think the government is headed, and rightly so. They should always question the government’s motives but they should also question their sources of information. One of the biggest dangers of any democratic society is to follow unquestioningly what you are told by the mainstream media. Especially a corporate controlled media that embraces bias and plays on your fears to get your attention. The author mentions many things these people are either against or fearful of. I am given the impression that these people are against them simply because they are perceived to be democratic principles. The truth is many of these things were started under a Republican administration. Some of these things fall directly onto Barack Obama.

How To Wage Your Successful War Against Effects Of Diabetes
soniman
by soniman  7-16-2009
People with diabetes may avoid or delay heart and blood vessel disease by controlling the other risk factors. Medicine may be required to diminish high cholesterol and triglycerides, but a good nutritional diet may reduce the need for medication. Meds DO NOT prolong life in diabetics (look it up or ask your doctor to confirm this), they only prevent complications of the disease. Each day you take your meds you help control your risk of experiencing the complications of diabetes. Remember that diabetes is a serious disease, which, if not controlled, can be life threatening.

Neda Agha Soltan ~ The Face of Iranian Resistance
merrie
by merrie  6-21-2009    2
The name "Neda" can be heard several times on the video clip, presumably by her father. It has been reported that he can be heard saying (in Farsi) "Neda, don't be afraid. Neda, don't be afraid. Neda, stay with me. Neda stay with me!" At 19:05 June 20th Place: Karegar Ave., at the corner crossing Khosravi St. and Salehi st. A young woman who was standing aside with her father watching the protests was shot by a basij member hiding on the rooftop of a civilian house. He had clear shot at the girl and could not miss her. However, he aimed straight her heart. I am a doctor, so I rushed to try to save her. But the impact of the gunshot was so fierce that the bullet had blasted inside the victim’s chest, and she died in less than 2 minutes. The protests were going on about 1 kilometers away in the main street and some of the protesting crowd were running from tear gas used among them Please let the world know

Journalist Threatened For Exposing Cover-Ups
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  6-17-2009    1
The crash of TWA 800 was blamed on a mysterious mechanical malfunction, the Oklahoma City bombing is blamed on a domestic ‘right-wing’ terrorist group, and 9/11 is blamed on al Qaeda. There is a handful of people who believe the true causes behind these have been covered up and they have been labeled conspiracy nuts. Five-time Emmy Award winner investigative reporter Peter Lance is disputing the official findings on all three cases. Lance represents the type of reporter most people would like to see more of but, I fear, have come to expect much less of from main stream media. He brings up some tough questions such as how al-Qaeda agents were able to prepare terrorist attacks on U.S. soil, even while some of them were under surveillance here and abroad by various U.S. government agencies. Could it simply be due to lack of exchange of information between government agencies? We all know this is happens far too often.

Cheney tied to cash theft and possible murder in Iraq
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  6-17-2009    1
The case against Dick Cheney just keeps getting better. One of the biggest threats to American freedoms is now being tied to a ‘spoils of war’ cache and a murder. This is the only place I have heard this charge, so the source is a bit suspect. But given the state of ‘fairness’ of our main stream media I am not surprised that this is the only source. On November 14, 2005, “In one of the worst intelligence fiascoes carried out by the neocon administration of Iraq under Paul “Jerry’ Bremer, Saddam Hussein’s chief money mover and financial adviser was beaten to death by US interrogators in Tikrit after the U.S. invasion. After Samara was occupied by US forces, it was discovered that Abu Seger lived in a home on the Tigris River just 200 yards from the main U.S. military position in the city. It did not take long for U.S. troops to break down Seger’s door and haul him off to a detention center.”

Why we can never fully trust what main stream media shows us. “People shouldn't expect the mass media to do investigative stories. That job belongs to the 'fringe' media.” – Ted Koppel “The press is the hired agent of a moneyed system, and set up for no other purpose than to tell lies where their interests are involved.” I don’t know who the author of this quote is but it speaks an undisputable truth. Any Photoshopping that alters the meaning of the original photo should be labeled as a "news illustration" in the caption so the viewer understands the photo has been altered.

Liz Cheney Accidentally(?) Lets the Truth Fly
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  5-24-2009    8
Cheney is putting on the “airs of the righteous” and the main stream media is eating it up. In truth, he is scared of being prosecuted and has conducted a campaign to reduce public support for a criminal inquiry. Cheney’s daughter Liz revealed that fear of prosecution is indeed a motivating factor in the former vice president’s current media campaign. Why isn’t G W Bush out there defending his policies? Because Cheney was in charge all along and perhaps because Liz Cheney is being groomed to be a 2012 candidate.

Through them, press freedom and the right to report the news freely are being taken hostage by Iran and North Korea. Why don't we hear more about these 'hostage' situations in the American Press. These are political prisoners and anyone who cares about the freedom of press should be up in arms about their incarceration.

Big Media Bails on Torture
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  4-30-2009
The U.S. media has steered clear in leading a discussion about the moral ramifications of torture, instead asking whether the practices were effective in gaining information from detainees. The U.S. media routinely reports on conflicts without telling us anything of substance about the real issues at the root of the controversy, as evidenced by the media’s response to the release of the Abu Ghraib torture photos. Much of the reporting focused on the photos themselves and the situation of their release, instead of on the acts that the photos documented. Big media has gone soft. It went soft on Bush and it is soft on Obama. Where do their loyalties lie? To advertisers who prove the almighty dollar that keeps them in business. They don't give a crap about the general public losing their constitutional rights, they don't give a damn about how our people are being bled dry by Corporafascist, they only care about having the 'exclusive' on it.

The Media Putz Award Goes To Corporate Media

The press let us all down by going so easy on Bush & Company. Are we going to see them sharpen their claws and attack Obama at every turn like they did with Clinton? If he deserves it, I say go for it, but if they chastise every wrong move just because he’s a democrat after the kid glove treatment they gave Bush then there truly is no honor left in professional journalism.

Huffington Post: Israeli-Occupied Territory

Huffington Post has ‘sold out’ to main stream media and can no longer be considered an alternative media outlet. It is all well and good to rant about corporate greed when your publication is small and financially barely getting by, but when you accept a $25 million “investment” and give a board seat to one of the investors, you instantly become a part of what you have been railing against. Proof of her selling out is in her coverage of the Gaza issue.

Day 9 of the War, Sunday, January 4, 2009
merrie
by merrie  1-4-2009
The daughter-in-law arrived at the family's home an hour before the bombing. When Nizar Riyan saw that she arrived, he laughed and asked her, "why did you come, do you want to die as a "shihada" (a martyr)?" Of course, she answered in the affirmative. A bit later, Riyan and his children swapped jokes about death and martyrdom. Riyan complained that his children aren't prepared to die with him, yet the stated they were prepared. "We will live together, or die together", his children said. His youngest son said that he wassn't willing to live without his father, so he also wanted to die a martyr like is father, and enter paradise in the afterlife. Afterwards, some of his children said that the bodies of the casualties are taken to the morgue and kept in a freezer. "I want to be buried right after I'm killed, so I can go straight to heaven", said Riyan. Afterwards, his daughter-in-law left the house, and the house was bombed by the IAF, killing Riyan and his family.

Manna Storehouse Raid - Update
spirithiker
by spirithiker  12-19-2008
This incident took place Dec 1, 2008 but received very little news coverage. The main stream media neglected or refused to run the story but a local paper, the Morning Journal ran with a ‘sanitized’ version. Two points to take away from this story is 1) the manner in which police raided this family home over what amounted to a licensing issue; 2) co-ops should have the right to sell their produce without being licensed; 3) that this is not an isolated event (see article for details). The Ohio and Pennsylvania Departments of Agriculture are taking the stance that they are protecting the public yet no complaint has ever been filed against either of these families who are simply selling their own farm raised whole milk products.

Rolling Over to Rescue the Bailout

contAll of cable and the networks are rolling over for their bellies to be scratched, helping the dodge that the bailout supporters were not really asking for a bailout, only a rescue. See? There was a great deal of hyperventilating last night on most of the talkies and news, sort of an "Oh No! What have we done!" chorus: We misnamed the rescue a bailout. Missing from this steady stream of thumb-sucking was any mention of the substantive reasons voters were outraged. What precisely was in the bailout bill for taxpayers, homeowners, renters? Was there any real cap on the greedy executive compensation packages? Investment in job creation? Rescue for homeowners in foreclosure? Along with the Oh No What Have We Done is the mantra of The Great Credit Freeze: small businesses won't be able to meet payroll; 401k and pension funds are cascading in value; there may not even be money in the ATM machine. The media herd, incredulous that its losing supporters of the bailout, is re-tool

Santa Cruz Police Bring Violence to Peaceful Protest. Main Stream Media Smeared what really occurred. Here is another view. I was there. The arrested protester was released, after a day in jail and the threat of 50,000 in bail, no charges. He was injured and never touched an officer. He was using a passive restive tactic to do what he thought was right. He took a stand.

Main-Stream-Media Censor Moderate Voices Of Islam?
merrie
by merrie  11-7-2007
It is interesting that even in the recent April 18 New York Times, Virginia Heffernan appropriately critiques the vacuous nature of Robert McNeil's documentary, "The Muslim Americans". McNeil's documentary which did conveniently make the cut of the Crossroads series, turned out to be a puff-piece for political correctness with no insight into Islamist ideologies and its danger to America. The question remains whether epiphanies like Heffernan's in the Times about McNeil's piece will translate into systemic changes in the approach of the MSM toward Islamists The recent RAND corporation research project highlighting the dire need to Build Moderate Muslim Networks in this new global "long war" against militant Islamism and its ideological siblings will never come to fruition with the current blinded pro-Islamist mainstream media approach. The mainstream media is apparently blind to the real ideology of Islamism and they allow Islamists to hide their theocracy behind minority politics
