Angstrom Magnesium- It keeps you relaxed
angstrom-minerals
by angstrom-minerals  9-26-2009
Why is magnesium a "Moving Mineral"? Magnesium is a natural laxative and may help the bowels move. When ever you take other minerals such as calcium which are constipation, you may want to add magnesium to balance the effects of calcium. Taking chemical laxatives can actually harm the body and strip it of the natural flow of digestion. Magnesium is mild, but used in excess can have a cleansing effect. Magnesium has soothing properties that may help induce restful sleep. In addition, it calms nerves, makes the body more flexible - especially in muscles, nerves, ligaments, tissues, joints and tendons.

There are five minerals that help the body maintain an alkaline state. Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, Sodium and Silica. As each body is different, you may need any or all of the following to get your body to an alkaline state. Even though your stomach has acid to digest food, your body as a whole needs to be in an alkaline state to avoid disease.

Stunted outlook on neglect of kids
pennyserenade
by pennyserenade  9-1-2009
" What can the United States do? The State Department each year publishes heavily researched reports on human rights, drug trafficking, religious freedom and human trafficking. All of these are important topics. But is any of them as critical as saving a billion children from life as a mental cripple? Why not a new report, on human nutrition, with appropriate penalties for the nations that neglect their children?"

6 New Insights on Sleep
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  8-21-2009    1
While the rest of the world runs full speed, we still live in a very primitive body, within which resides a biological clock that influences the activity of every single cell. Blood sugar, hormone levels, metabolic rates, body temperature, sodium/potassium levels, and immune function are just a few of the things directly linked to the body's internal clock. Altering your biological clock can have a drastic impact on your health. One important factor that helps determine the amount of sleep a person needs nightly is stage of life. Newborns sleep an average of 16 to 18 hours a day. Teenagers need at least 8.5 hours while most adults need around 8 hours to function well. Contrary to the popular belief, the need for sleep does not decline with old age. While the elderly do find that their slumber becomes more fitful, they continue to need about the same amount of sleep that they needed in early adulthood. For this reason, older people tend to nap often during the day.
