POPSWarner Confesses: Pirate Bay Cop Compromised Naw, you mean the extortionist mafia called he RIAA isn't playing fair? Since when do we expect criminal organizations to play fair? It should be assumed at all times these guys are crooked, the evidence against them is much greater than that showing they love puppies and children and buttercups.

POPSIran's new parliament speaker I think the important point here is the influence and wishes of Iran's clerical leaders, who actually rule the country. They want a "less confrontational approach"...for the time being. We know they approve of Ahmedinijad but he is like the gung-ho mafia apprentice that lets his enthusiasm get in the way of his prudence. When Ahmedinejad is gone Iran will be the same. The face and persona of it's President will be different.

POPSClimate Bill Underlines Obstacles environmental activists, resent having to vote for anything authored by Lieberman in light of his active support of the presidential bid of GOP Sen. John McCain (Ariz.). And several senators are questioning why they are being asked to vote on a lengthy substitute version of the bill that Boxer and her allies just introduced a week and a half ago. "This is just a money grab," said James E. Rogers, the chief executive of Duke Energy. Rogers says he supports a cap-and-trade system but argues that this bill raises too much revenue from coal users while diverting too much of it to other purposes. "Only the mafia could create an organization that would skim money off the top the way this legislation would skim money off the top," he said. Duke, with customers in Ohio, Indiana and the Carolinas, relies heavily on coal-fired plants.

POPS Is Barack a Team(ster) Player? (continued) should be relaxed or withdrawn. But sadly, Obama understands, like Bill Clinton intimately understood, that judicial affairs can be affected by the political branches, such as through sympathetic appointments to the Justice Department and the courts. So it is no small matter that a presidential candidate would consider intervening, albeit indirectly, in a judicial question, especially one involving potential corruption. Who can say at this point whether Obama has nefarious intentions concerning this? But it is difficult to understand what benign motives would lead him to take a position against the advice of the sitting review board that corruption and elections require continued supervision, especially in light of the union's endorsement. We'll see if the "watchdog" MSM pursue this story.

POPSPalermo businesses defy the Mafia
The more money a business makes, the more money the Godfathers expect. Those who don't pay up are quickly paid a visit. It starts with a friendly chat to explain the rules, followed by a nudge such as a brick through the window. If that fails to make the point, a home, business or car might be firebombed. Small shops are expected to hand over around £100 a month: for supermarkets and jewellers, the going rate is nearer £1,000. But shoppers and businesses are rebelling, with those refusing to pay adding their names online at the Addiopizzo website. As of yesterday, 241 firms and individuals were listed. Now Mr Messina has decided to bring them together by stocking their items in Supermercato Punto Antipizzo. "I felt the time had come to give those businesses that had refused to pay the pizzo an extra economic opportunity. "All the products in the store are supplied by firms who have refused to pay pizzo — we are talking . . .the sort of items you find in a normal super

POPSWhy can't we be friends with Cuba> A sketch of the history is in order. With Manifest Destiny policy of the 19th century, the United States declared all of Latin America and the Caribbean to be the America's “back yard”. As such, the US government claimed the right to decide what kinds of governments those countries have, to enforce US corporations right to plunder the resources and exploit the labor of those countries—with military force (including invasions of countries from Haiti to Nicaragua to Cuba at the turn of the 20th century) or CIA covert actions, including assassination of leaders who resist US domination.

POPSThe Story Behind the Killings Of Congo's Rare Mountain Gorillas
The Congolese park authorities moved Ngobobo to the park's less important northern sector, away from the vulnerable gorilla population and the conservation groups who backed his enforcement efforts. He took the transfer—presented to as temporary—with equanimity. "What I have done was really upset the system," says Ngobobo, who has the demeanor of an academic and speaks impeccable French. "And for that, they have put my head on a tray." Ngobobo bemoans what he says is the corruption that influences some local officials, military authorities and conservation officials. "The charcoal industry is a whole mafia." 550 park rangers are paid about $5 a month Rwandan authorities see the value in protecting the gorillas, a draw for the growing numbers of tourists who pay $500 each to see the rare mammals in their habitat. Virunga's top ranger in charge of tourism hasn't seen a single tourist since August. "The first thing we need to do is stop the fighting." [and find another source..
