POPSObama, singing a song to himself To document our pessimism about the Obamoid government, Michael Barone introduces a new slant on analyzing ideologies in the US"lyrical leftism. Leftists of the past were able to mobilize people in the expansion of the state through war"Wilson and Roosevelt used their wars to take control of wide swaths of the economy. Leftists today are "lyrical" when they repudiate the state's use of force and celebrate diversity. It's just singing in the wind. This is the "basic contradiction in what the party and the liberal movement stand for," according to Barone.

POPSLyrical Voices "Nooriala has written about the failures of the Islamic revolution, erotic love and such taboo women's subjects as abortion and menopause. She recently posted a piece dedicated to Iranians protesting the country's presidential election. I have seen your nightmares in my dreams I have kept your sorrows in my heart I picked a dandelion flown about by the wind Bringing me news, anxiety and trembling hands If you are tied down I shall be your wings If you are at war I shall be your armor Your voice will fly through the blue sky again, And your free hands will weave through the sun again."

POPSJoker One: A Marine Platoon’s Story of Courage, Leadership, and Brotherhood . . . . . . And while you’re at it, they’re told, try winning over the hearts and minds of the populace, too. Vague visions of military glory vaporize on Joker One’s first forays into Ramadi’s hardscrabble neighborhoods, where everyone lives within walled compounds and even the smiling kids who take the Marines’ candy quickly turn around and pelt them with stones. Campbell, a deft writer who must be an obsessive diarist, recounts his unit’s 7 ½ -month tour in powerful, exacting detail, from a U.S. major’s babbling incoherency after an attack to the way a rocket-propelled grenade skipped down the street before finally hitting something solid enough to detonate it. He tells it all with lyrical grace.

POPSWho is your 'special friend' ? The 'special relationship' between Britain and America may have had some validity during WW2. However, over the ensuing decades it has turned into a very 'one way' affair. I think that it is time to agree to an amicable separation!

POPSDocumentary makers look for the next eco-blockbuster The film unfolds like a mystery, with Mr Clover as detective. The film-makers travel to Nova Scotia, the Bahamas, Tokyo and the Mediterranean, as well as to a small village in west Africa whose supply of fish has been halved in recent years as a result of over-fishing. Ignorance, corruption and greed all play a part. As Robert Redford, founder of the Sundance film festival, says: “Just explaining the problem isn’t enough. You have to show what people can do about the problem.”

POPS. . . . 'Some guy in my neighborhood' As a reminder, Obama explicitly claims that he did not employ a ghost writer or a co-author in the composition of his memoir. The revelation that Ayers either helped write or simply wrote Dreams would not only expose Obama in a bald-faced, intellect-deflating lie; it would further refute his increasingly laughable assertion that the unrepentant terrorist is simply a "guy from the neighborhood." 'Some guy in my neighborhood' http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=77938 Obama didn't write 'Dreams from My Father' http://wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=77815 Nautical metaphors could sink Obama http://wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=77940 Did Obama Write "Dreams from My Father" ... Or Did Ayers? http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=OTlkMTdmNDRkMTM1ODZkNGNkZmRiNDFjMDE4YzRjMjg=

POPSMind if I borrow that speech Biden's speech continued: "Those same people who read poetry and wrote poetry and taught me how to sing verse? Is it because they didn't work hard? My ancestors, who worked in the coal mines of Northeast Pennsylvania and would come up after 12 hours and play football for four hours?" Biden's Welsh accent was as phony as Madonna's British accent. If this were merely a failure to cite Kinnock, why was Labor Leader Neil Kinnock talking about the Biden family and the coal mines of Pennsylvania? Biden not only lifted -- as The New York Times reported -- Kinnock's "phrases, gestures and lyrical Welsh syntax intact," but also his entire life story.

POPSJohnny Hodges Portrait - Limited Edition Print A true artist possessing one of the most beautiful tones heard throughout jazz, altoist Johnny Hodges formed a style all his own early on in his career which he held to steadfastly through the decades. In Ellington’s eulogy of Hodges he said: “Never the world’s most highly animated showman or greatest stage personality, but a tone so beautiful it sometimes brought tears to the eyes - this was art and music of Johnny Hodges.” Hodges is immortalized in this limited edition print by the artist Frederick Brown as part of a series called Portraits of Music I Love.
