Mind-Control For the Poor From Childhood.
mcsmithblack
by mcsmithblack  12-12-2009
Disturbing study showing how our upper crust makes sure that the underclass stays under. One can never start too early. More below: "The questions go beyond the psychological impact on Medicaid children, serious as that may be. Antipsychotic drugs can also have severe physical side effects, causing drastic weight gain and metabolic changes resulting in lifelong physical problems. “They say it’s impossible to stop now,” Evelyn Torres, 48, of the Bronx, said of her son’s use of antipsychotics since he received a diagnosis of bipolar disorder at age 3. Seven years later, the boy is now also afflicted with weight and heart problems."

US to spend $3bn compensating native Americans
foxyarse
by foxyarse  12-8-2009    1
Under an agreement reached with tribes, the Interior Department would distribute $1.4 billion to more than 300,000 native American tribe members to compensate them for historical accounting claims, and to resolve future claims. The government also would spend $2 billion to buy back and consolidate tribal land broken up in previous generations. The scheme would allow individual tribe members to obtain cash payments for land interests divided among numerous family members and return the land to tribal control.

Hard to Imagine, Australia Brings Israel, Iran Together
merrie
by merrie  10-16-2009
of a nuclear-weapons-free zone in the Middle East. Contact between Israeli and Iranian officials is sporadic and only takes place at international forums - no formal meetings between the two countries have occurred since the 1979 Iranian revolution. Officials from Egypt, Jordan, Turkey and other regional countries also took part in the three-day meeting and it is believed the talks floated an idea for a further regional conference - possibly hosted by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon - to outline the broad aims of a treaty to create a Middle East nuclear-free zone. Similar ideas have stalled in the past over the long-running Israeli-Palestinian conflict and questions of security guarantees for Israel. But last month's talks in Egypt attempted to skirt such obstacles by focusing on proposals to safeguard any fissile material in the region that could potentially be used for nuclear weapons.

Obama Speaks at United Nations
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  9-23-2009
Somewhat low key. This article/clip is a reasonable summary. Unfortuantely there is a joke in U.S. politics about "that depends upon what your definition of 'is,' is." -- meaning, on specific issues - is his objection to 'nukes,' in Iran and North Korea objections to nuke weapons or also objection to Iran's nuclear power program (which is legal and in accord with the UN IAEA). Does he desire for reducing nukes and being honest with nukes include the "secret," nuclear weapons of Israel that somehow always fail to get mentioned. Surprisingly firm, while committed to Israel's security he said the increase in Israel settlements was "illegitimate." - a rather firm statement and talked about the 1967 borders of Israel, and how Palestine needs a "contagious," free and real independent state. But none of these things would seem acceptable to Israel at all, their "peace terms," clearly sounding like "we go on with aggression and expansion," statements.

Venezuela to Get Russian Missiles
merrie
by merrie  9-12-2009
Venezuela is involved in a long-running diplomatic stand-off with neighbouring Colombia, over the latter's plans to allow US troops greater access to its military bases. Colombia says the US forces will help in the war against drugs and left-wing guerrillas and will not destabilise the region. Mr Chavez, a fierce opponent of US foreign policy, did not say how many missiles he had ordered. Russia has been strengthening its ties with several Latin American countries, including Venezuela. The two countries held joint naval exercises in Venezuelan waters last November. BBC NEWS http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8251969.stm

Insights Into Matters From a Free-Market Perspective
merrie
by merrie  9-7-2009    2
Until the very end, willing foreign buyers could always be found for paper marks, so the Republic could still obtain the hard currency needed to meet Allied reparation demands. At the same time, the inflation created a capital goods boom that rapidly replaced the seized ships and rolling stock. Businesses had to choose between immediately reinvesting (and of course, malinvesting) profits in capital goods, or watching their funds evaporate overnight (literally, by late 1923). Starting with a gold mark worth about a dollar in 1920, Germans ended up with a worthless paper mark that, in November 1923 was replaced by a new gold-backed mark, at the rate of 1,000,000,000,000 (one trillion) old paper marks to one new gold mark. As a comparison, the worst inflation experienced in the United States (so far) was the collapse of the Continental Dollar. From 1776 through 1787 . . .

Back to the Good Old Days, Or, Why Are We In Honduras Anyway?
brightlight4
by brightlight4  8-30-2009
First, at least six of the military officers who implemented the coup and the subsequent Iran-like repression of pro-democracy protests are graduates of the (in)famous "School of the Americas." The SOA, providing US training to Latin American military personnel, has long been known throughout Latin America as the "School of Coups," or sometimes the "School of Assassins," because so many coup plotters and abusers of human rights have trained there. The coup leaders in Honduras, Generals Romeo Vasquez and Luis Suazo, are both SOA alumni, twice so in the case of Vasquez, and other coup plotters are also SOA grads. Although the SOA has officially changed its name to "Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation," the old epithet "school of coups" evidently still fits. And despite the coup, Honduran soldiers are still training at the SOA as if nothing had changed. A long-running movement to close the SOA as part of a new "good neighbor policy" toward Latin America has gained

What a surprise! Besides already being a foul source of polluted news and setting up propaganda scams throughout the world it seems -- gasp! -- on of it's chief of staff was taking money and gifts for favors, including supporting a fascist, zionist extremist private TV station. This sure is a great country. The banks steal billions anytime they want...and not only get loans to get out of debt but get paid interest on the loan they get.... ...can you image...borrowing money then getting you getting paid interest on the money you borrowed?? That fact just sticks in my mind about how Opposite to Good Government things can get and everything about Abramoff and his lobbying scams (he stole millions from Native American Indians and sent it to Israel for weapons) is "impressive," on the scale of how Opposite to What's Right as bad as it could get. These guys sell their souls for pennies, btw. Give a few hundred thousand and then get billions in return. Lobbying is just bribery
