NY State Archivist Accused Of Stealing Historic Artifacts
merrie
by merrie  1-29-2008    1
Joseph Romito, a lawyer and history buff in Richmond, Va., tipped authorities off after he spotted one of the items for sale on eBay and realized it was supposed to belong to New York state. After searching the suspect's home this past weekend, officials found hundreds of documents and artifacts belonging to the state. Officials believe the theft goes back to 2002, Cuomo spokesman John Milgram said. It's unclear how much Lorello profited from his sales. In some cases he went to trade shows and exchanged the state's items for others, authorities said. But officials said in just two sales of Davy Crockett Almanacs he received more than $5,000.

"Welcome to circusmuseum.nl, the ultimate image bank with posters, photos and prints from the collection of Jaap Best, the Netherlands’ largest collection of circus memorabilia. For your enjoyment, our online show, now has nearly eight thousand circus posters from 1880 to the present, from the Netherlands to America, from A2 format to several square metres. At the heart of the collection, and dating from 1880-1930, are nearly 3,500 colour lithographs by the Hamburg printer Adolph Friedländer. This year alone we have added 7,000 circus photos and picture postcards. Our sophisticated search engine has hundreds of headwords – not just for acts and artistes, and for owners and individual circuses, but also for fairs, variety shows and the theatre."

You're probably familiar with some of these, but it's never bad to see them again :) # 7 reminds me of the KKK, I know it's not, it is "Procession in Crypt", but I can't help but make the connection :-P
