Parisians ashamed of being from Paris
infidel70
by infidel70  10-26-2009    4
The whole affair came to light when the French authorities decided to introduce new license plates that displayed the symbol of the country's departments, and not only the number of the department as previously. Moreover, the French can now choose any department they like- it does not have to be their actual place of residence. It soon turned out that the residents of Paris preferred to choose plates other than Parisian ones. As a result, the number of Parisian plates has declined by 60% since April 2009. The decline in license plates has also been reported in Hauts-de-Seine department near Paris. It is a place where the richest people in the country live. Also many residents of Seine-Saint-Denis, one of the poorest departments near Paris, have decided to hide their place of residence, as "bad address" often makes it difficult to get a good job.

IN man denied ‘No Gods’ license plates though state offers ‘In God We Trust’ plates
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  9-8-2009    2
As I understand it, the separation of church and state sprang from the concept that the state cannot impose its belief on the individual. The federal government has been doing exactly this since 1864 when the first coin was stamped with “In God We Trust”. In 1956 it became the national motto (http://candst.tripod.com/motto.htm), and it is supported by nearly 90% of Americans, which led the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold the motto because, according to them, it has "lost through rote repetition any significant religious content”. Several years ago, the appearance of "In God We Trust" on our money was challenged in the federal courts. The challenge was rejected by the lower federal courts, and the Supreme Court of the United States declined to review the case. Since this message appears on U.S. currency, several states flags and seals, and license plates, many people falsely believe that the U.S. is, and was founded as, a Christian nation. I doubt you will convince them otherwise.

In Ranks of Heroes, Finding the Fakes
smellydiaper
by smellydiaper  8-2-2009
I don't care what it costs. Need database so these scum are caught and exposed as the fakes they are. It is a slap in the face to all of us that have served with pride and earned what awards we have from the battles. I know i can't even buy a cup of coffee with what i have but it is sense of self pride that matters most. And for some person that never even served it is bad enough. Worse are those that have served and know exactly what a slap in the face it is to us. I hope when exposed they are so embarrassed they have to relocate to someplace where people don't know what a fraud they are. And if received any benifits are made to repay twice the amount they scammed. Lower then scum they are in my book. Right up there with pedo's, child molesters, scam artists, and rest of societies dirtbags. Sorry so heated on this but omg it pisses me off.

Global Cooling Wrecking Tourism In NE
merrie
by merrie  7-12-2009    2
From an unfazed Associated Press The tourism season is young, so there are few statistics indicating how it’s going. In Maine, those that are available point to a rough start. In June, traffic was down 3 percent on the Maine Turnpike, and day use at state parks was down by nearly a third. There’s no sugarcoating the bitter pill in a state where "Vacationland" is on the license plates and tourism is the biggest industry, pumping $10 billion into the economy. Vaughn Stinson, chief executive officer of the Maine Tourism Association, put the damage at millions of dollars in Maine alone. "When you have just day after day after day of that, it just really dampens " no pun intended " everyone’s enthusiasm," Stinson said. It’s certainly bad for businesses that had to close. Story Land in Conway, N.H., and Funtown Splashtown USA in Saco are among those that closed briefly. Under sunny skies, Friday marked only the seventh day in two weeks that Aquabaggon news.yahoo.com

UK's Surveillance Society, and Their Devices
blueridge

This is in the UK but being deployed in America too. This BBC site has on-going reports and videos that are very informative, and awakening. See their latest video report here on deployment of "unregulated road cameras" that are screening all vehicles through license plate recognition. The word "freedom" is losing its meaning entirely when government can do whatever it wants.

I had to laugh while reading this. I agree with the author completely. Religious zealots using the political process to pass their views onto the public, even if everyone lines up to buy these license plates, is simply misusing their position. And the anti-bestiality law, a pet project of State Senator Nan Rich, is another example of a politician feeling the need to pass some legislation, any legislation, to justify her job. She cited exactly 2 Florida cases of human-animal sex in the last 4 years not exactly a pressing matter for political attention.

Mystic Dawn Salazar,6, MISSING
Delilah1234
by Delilah1234  12-6-2008
Six-year-old Mystic Salazar of Clifton was supposed to return from an eight-hour visit with her biological father at 5:30 p.m. Sunday so she’d have time to get ready for her first day of school. She never got to school. And her father, Enrique Arreola-Lopez of Centennial, never returned to the Clifton City Market parking lot, Grand Junction, where he was supposed to return Mystic to the family she’s lived with since she was a toddler. The girl has lived full-time with Amie Salazar and Jennifer Davis since December 2006. Mystic is believed to be in the company of Enrique Arreola-Lopez, who is Mystic’s biological father. With them, are his wife Melissa, her three sons and another boy. Arreola-Lopez met his daughter for the first time in April 2008 and has had periodic single-day court-ordered visits with Mystic since then. Mystic had not had any sense of family with these people and is now in there sole care, with nothing known about them. If you have any information on the whe
