An American Carol: Funny Movie Lampoons Left
Cezanne777
by Cezanne777  Today 3:50 AM
David Zucker, director of Airplane! and The Naked Gun, has made a new movie. As a right-wing comedy from a left-wing town, it should be historic, if nothing else.

Left In Dark Times - Bernard-Henri Levi
willhelm
by willhelm  10-4-2008
Video sent to me by a Clipmarks friend. There are some things I disagree with with, for example, his quick brush with the idea that fascism and racism are necessary components of one another. I think his natural leftism makes him unable to stomach the idea that organic society is directly opposed to a pure liberalism. That aside, this is an eloquent and enlightening take on the leftist movement taking place on the world stage. Some things he says he touches on in his book: 1. Left v Liberal. What does being on the left mean? 2. Freedom v. equality 3. Can the free market be something other than the "kingdom of the greedy". ( IMO: It is created the kingdom of the greedy by the progressive legislative process, the same way the Unions were strengthened and destroy the industries they are involved in. Housing market, anyone?). 4. A return to idea of Nationalism by the Left.

Citizen "Steve" had this to say... THE MORONS LEFT TOWN BEFORE PASSING THE PART OF THE BILLS THAT TOOK CARE OF MIDDLE CLASS AMERICA…..WHAT DID WE GET FOR OUR 700B? 1. We had 700B of our hard earned tax dollars taken from our pockets and given to Wall St 2. They added Pork on the Bill wasting more of our tax dollars 3. GUESS WHAT!!!!! CNN reported they left town before passing the part of the bill that will help middle class America…can you believe it. They left town and forgot us after all that B.S. talk about this bill taking care of middle class America. Gee…I wonder if they will come back to work to take care of Main St — yea right! At this stage, I don’t care who voted yes or no for this bill. They are all bums and should be thrown in jail for violating our trust…. What the terrorists can’t accomplish in America, Congress will. How the hell can any American trust these morons to take care of Main St….NO MORE! Don’t let these morons be re-elected.

Search Engine Reputation Management
semaphoreseoservices
by semaphoreseoservices  10-3-2008
"Reputation management" here portrays what happens when you have a problem arise in SERPs, i.e. search engine result pages. Reputation management is a major pain for brands and businesses; whether this arises due to bloggers or social media site jumping on negative news - which might have resulted due to disgruntled customers or left-away X-employees, low morale competitors, etc.

"I'm Barack Obama, and I Approve This Bailout"
blueridge
by blueridge  10-2-2008
Both left and right on Main St. oppose the bailout bill, and for good reason. Take a look here at how mad many on the left are. Here is his punch line to the get-a-long Democrats in Congress--call it a hard left hook: To the former, the Democratic Party, I say: your support of this Bill as it stands or in any form that simply hands over money and asks the market to take care of the mess makes you our enemies, not our advocates. ...then he lands one squarely on Obama's jaw: To Barack Obama I say: you are a fraud on public credulity. You are no more a "change" agent than I am the Pope. With your support of this bailout, you have acted in direct contradiction to your promise of change Last chance to call your house rep before they RUIN both the market and the economy with those latest Bailout bill.

Thoughts on the Bailout Defeat
merrie
by merrie  9-30-2008    6
"A number of Republican House members and staff, along with others who are plugged in, are telling me that Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats will come back with a new bill that includes all the left-wing stuff that was scrubbed from the bill that was defeated today in the House. As this scenario goes, the House Democrats need 218 votes, and they have to pick up a number of black and Hispanic House members who jumped ship because the Wall Street provisions, in their view, were too benign. So things like the bankruptcy judges setting mortgage terms and rates, the ACORN slush-fund spending, the union proxy for corporate boards, stricter limits on executive compensation, and much larger equity ownership of selling banks through warrants will all find itself back in the new bill. Of course, this scenario will lose more Republican votes. But insiders tell me President Bush will take Secretary Paulson’s advice and sign that kind of legislation."

Inside Obama’s Acorn
merrie
by merrie  9-30-2008    2
....with a “1960’s-bred agenda of anti-capitalism” to match. Acorn, says Stern, grew out of “one of the New Left’s silliest and most destructive groups, the National Welfare Rights Organization.” The theory, explains Stern, was that an impossibly overburdened welfare system would force “a radical reconstruction of America’s unjust capitalist economy.” Instead of a socialist utopia, however, we got the culture of dependency and family breakdown that ate away at America’s inner cities — until welfare reform began to turn the tide. he targets and strategy have changed. Acorn prefers to fly under the national radar, organizing locally in liberal urban areas — where, local legislators and reporters are often “slow to grasp how radical Acorn’s positions really are.” In Your Face Just think of Code Pink’s well-known operations (threatening to occupy congressional offices, interrupting the testimony of General David Petraeus) and you’ll get the idea.

Bailout Vote Fails In the House
merrie
by merrie  9-29-2008
Yes, Clinton's surpluses gave way to Bush deficits (due largely, it's worth noting, to the 2001 recession that was in place when Clinton left office). And yes, the Bush administration (and a complacent GOP Congressional majority) presided over a lamentable and inexcusable bloating of the federal government. But the idea that this was a significant contributing factor to the mortgage/credit crisis strains the limits of creative causality. Even so, Pelosi's partisan rant - ill-timed, illogical, and irrelevant as it was - doesn't seem like a particularly good reason for intended Yeas to tank the bill. Update: A full transcript of Pelosi's speech (which was significantly longer than the clip in the video) is available in the extended entry.

John the #1 Drama Queen
lifecyce1898
by lifecyce1898  9-29-2008    2
Appearing Sunday on ABC's "This Week," McCain said he had been too busy "working on all the other stuff" to cast a vote. Asked if he would have voted against it, McCain said he would have tried to cut the "outrageous pork-barrel spending" in the bill, but "probably would have ended up voting for it." Guess it's more about the drama and grandstanding. Is this what a McBush Presidency would look like? Obama missed the vote too but then he also avoided the grandstanding.

A Forbidden City of words
balthazarus
by balthazarus  9-28-2008    2
Recently, a new technique has been developed that involves some software that changes the alignment of Chinese words from horizontal to vertical, and it's very popular. Chinese sentences can be read from left to right, right to left, and top to bottom. For a Chinese person reading from top to bottom is not a problem – it has been like that for thousands of years, until the early 20th century. However, the forbidden vocabulary-seeking mechanism is fooled. When all these methods fail, people can still use mobile phones and text messages, which are not covered by the censoring system yet.
