Government protects kids, moms and dads pay more
gemfemfox
by gemfemfox  2-8-2010
Hasbro and Mattel can tell whatever story they like about "why" their revenues and profits are up. But the truth is that the Children's Lead Protection laws increased the price of toys by nearly 30%. As well as kids' clothes - pajamas and socks/underwear had the largest jump. This is what happens EVERY TIME we ask the government to protect us. They pass the law, we foot the bill and the corporation is allowed to increase their profit margins. EVERY single time.

In Orissa Christians treated worse than animals, says Father Bernard
foxyarse
by foxyarse  2-8-2010    1
Fr Bernard Digal is the treasurer of the Archdiocese of Cuttack-Bhubaneshwar. He spoke to AsiaNews about his pain over what is happening in Orissa. He, too, was wounded, beaten for hours by radical Hindus, left for a whole night unconscious, half naked, in the forest, until he was found by his driver. Now he is in the intensive care unit in Mumbai’s Holy Spirit Hospital. During his talk with AsiaNews he was given another unit of blood. But his thoughts were with his people and family, all forced to flee to save their lives, now stranded in a refugee camp near Bhubaneshwar. “My heart is filled with gratitude because God saved my life. But whilst I am being treated here my people are hiding in the forest and even there, there is no security,” he said. “There are mothers breast-feeding their infants, children, young and old people, all hanging on a precarious thread, in terror. Even refugee camps are not free of dangers.”

THE DEATH ALIGNMENT IN COSMIC CYCLES
Steve Savage
by Steve Savage  2-7-2010
The world is presently on a Slippery Slope, accelerating ever more rapidly, and deeper, into the Greatest Depression ever to befall mankind. Because of limited resources, ignorance of true indebtedness, the drain of entitlements for the impoverished, the physically and mentally weak and helpless; and, for lack of what Nazi Germany referred to as Lebensraum, we're going to have to make some difficult choices very soon as to who will live and who will die. THE DEATH ALIGNMENT IS HERE!

DARPA's Immortal Synthetic Organisms
dcoda
by dcoda  2-6-2010
Darpa's Synthetic Biology Project issued this statement: "The concern that humans might be overreaching when we create organisms that never before existed can be a safety concern, but it also returns us to disagreements about what is our proper role in the natural world (a debate largely about non-physical harms or harms to well-being)." The word on the street is that synthetic organisms have existed for years. Very hush hush, until now.

Restrictions on Our Right to Natural Living
dcoda
by dcoda  2-6-2010
For many years global corporations have worked to gain control over what we put in our bodies. If they can't sell it to us, it will be illegal to grow or use it. Hard to believe, I know. Natural foods and supplements are under attack and one day soon, may no longer be available to us. This site explains the issue.

Species of the Day - 5th February 2010 - Testudo-kleinmanni
celestialdancer
by celestialdancer  2-5-2010
The Egyptian Tortoise, Testudo kleinmanni, is listed as ‘Critically Endangered’ on the IUCN Red List of Threatened SpeciesTM. This Middle Eastern and North African tortoise has a golden-coloured shell and minute shell size of less than 14 cm. Currently, the main threats endangering this species are intensive commercial collection for the national and international pet trade, and habitat destruction which has led to its disappearance from much of its former range in scrub desert and coastal dunes. Agricultural expansion, cultivation, overgrazing, and urban encroachment have put enormous pressure on the Egyptian Tortoise’s fragile and dwindling habitat, dramatically reducing available vegetation for food and cover. Nationally protected in Egypt and Israel, including through community-based protected areas, but not in Libya, this species is also protected from international trade, although these laws are often not enforced. Its future will depend on the establishment of more pr

Swearing Scott Brown
merrie
by merrie  2-5-2010    2
why did the Democratic Governor and the Democratic leaders of the Senate allow Senator Brown his wish? After all, there are some votes coming up where that 60th vote will be needed. One has to wonder: what gives? I think Clifton, over at Another Black Conservative, has come up with an interesting theory: If I had to guess, I would say Reid is desperate for another excuse as to why he cannot pass healthcare reform. Despite all the chatter and tough talk, healthcare reform is dead, dead, dead. It died a least a week before the Scott Brown victory. When the House Democrats, who all face re-election this year, saw what was happening in Massachusetts they dropped support for healthcare reform. All this stuff you hear now about working on healthcare is just noise designed to let their base down softly, because the truth would set their base on fire. Can you imagine what would happen on the left if it were known that the Democrats got ...

How to Become a Corporation
sahara
by sahara  2-4-2010
Now that the laws have changed and defined corporations as people, people are corporations, why not take advantage of it and make your family a "corporation". Just sell a few things on e-bay once in a while or something. Imagine the benefits? Food, furnishings, clothing (er, "uniforms"), paying housekeepers ("maintenance personnel"), landscapers, internet expenses, dining out with friends (entertaining "clients"), childrens' allowances ("employee paychecks") ....all can be written off as a "business expense". After you file with your state to become a corporation you will need to get a Federal Tax ID Number or EIN (Employer Identification Number). This is also easy to do, just go to the link below and you will find form SS-4 from the IRS to apply for a number: http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=97872,00.html

Shariah Finance, Criminal Wrongdoing in the AIG Takeover
merrie
by merrie  2-4-2010    2
First, the Shariah authorities themselves tell us that Shariah is a holistic and indivisible whole and that you cannot carve out “business law Shariah” from any other of its constituent parts, like the law of jihad. And, you can see this in that part of Shariah called civil law or fiqh al-muamalat. According to Shariah, AIG cannot invest its takaful funds in a business that might rent space to a church, because that would violate the principle of not supporting any religion other than Allah’s. Further, AIG may invest its funds in a military armament factory for Muslim armies but not US or infidel armies. In other words, these laws which seemingly have nothing to do with business concerns or ethics but rather everything to do with theo-political concerns apply as forcefully to Shariah-compliant finance as the laws on interest. And, of course the reason for this we know because the Shariah authorities tell us: Shariah makes no distinction between religion, law, politics
