POPSCheney Slams Obama's 'Politicized' Probe of CIA Interrogations "..Cheney disputed the administration's assertion last week that the decision to go after the CIA agents was made by Holder, not Obama." ""If you look at the Constitution, the president of the United States is the chief law enforcement officer in the land," Cheney said. "The attorney general's a statutory officer. He's a member of the Cabinet. The president's the one who bears this responsibility." I think the Administration is filled with loose cannons and has no leader with the ability to rein them in or even understand what the heck is going on. Talk about chaos!

POPSSPLC Report Finds Low-Income Latinos in South Targeted for Abuse, Discrimination The survey findings, coupled with accounts from in-depth interviews, depict a region where Latinos are routinely cheated out of wages by employers and denied basic health and safety protections. They are racially profiled by overzealous law enforcement agents and victimized by criminals who know they are reluctant to report crime to these same authorities. Even legal residents and U.S. citizens of Latino descent said racial profiling, bigotry and other forms of discrimination are staples of their daily lives. A number of immigrants in the survey described the South as a "war zone." "The assumption is that every Latino possibly is undocumented," Angeles Ortega-Moore, an immigrant advocate in North Carolina, told SPLC researchers. "So it has spread over into the legal population."

POPSDone its Job? (stimulus) Our GOP Gov. accepted the stimulus $$$ and our local commissioners are still threatening us with cuts in law enforcement, firefighters and EMTs. I KNOW there are being teachers laid off. I heard an interesting comment from Scott Rasmussen yesterday. He said that there are more conservatives in the US than liberals. He said that not all conservatives are Republican or all Democrats liberals. I'd say there is a serious, serious need for all conservatives (fiscal ones especially) to thwart this bogus program and roll it back. The only thing being stimulated is a recession and more $$ into the pockets of corrupt and greedy politicians.

POPSScouts Train to Fight Terrorists, and More From the article: "Many law enforcement officials, particularly those who work for the rapidly growing Border Patrol, part of the Homeland Security Department, have helped shape the program’s focus and see it as preparing the Explorers as potential employees. The Explorer posts are attached to various agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation and local police and fire departments, that sponsor them much the way churches sponsor Boy Scout troops. “Our end goal is to create more agents,” said April McKee, a senior Border Patrol agent and mentor at the session here."

POPSFederal Lawsuit Filed Over DHS ‘Rightwing Extremist’ Report The Report specifically mentions the following political beliefs that law enforcement should use to determine whether someone is a “rightwing extremist”: * Opposes restrictions on firearms * Opposes lax immigration * Opposes the policies of President Obama regarding immigration, citizenship, and the expansion of social programs * Opposes continuation of free trade agreements * Opposes same-sex marriage * Has paranoia of foreign regimes * Fear of Communist regimes * Opposes one world government * Bemoans the decline of U.S. stature in the world. * Upset with loss of U.S. manufacturing jobs to China and India . . . and the list goes on. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan on behalf of nationally syndicated conservative radio talk show host, Michael Savage, Gregg Cunningham (President of the pro-life organization Center for Bio-Ethical Reform, Inc. POPSGov Sanford's Rejection Of Stimulus Funds Could Cost 7,500 Teachers Their Jobs FTA: Ironically, Sanford cited his “duty” to “future generations of South Carolinians” in explaining his slashing of funding for the state’s school system, in a letter to the legislature. And in a press conference yesterday, he insisted he was acting with young people’s best interests at heart: Of course we’d like to spend unlimited amounts of money on education or for that matter healthcare or law enforcement. but you have to do it within the confines of that which is sustainable. So the idea of digging a $1.2 billion hole whose costs ultimately will be born by school-aged kids to me is not in their best interest

POPSStroke the Rich
The IRS has become a subsidy system for super-wealthy Americans IRS winks at rich deadbeats. Because the news media focus on what politicians say about the tax system, rather than how it actually operates, few Americans realize that: -- Corporate income tax laws reward companies that move jobs offshore, allowing them to earn untaxed profits as long as the money stays offshore. -- Widespread cuts in health insurance and pensions for the rank-and- file are driven by a special law that lets top executives defer paying taxes for years, in a way that adds 35 percent to the cost of their bloated pay. -- The 2001 Bush tax cuts included a stealth tax increase on the middle class and upper-middle class that will cost them a half trillion dollars in the first 10 years and, for 35 million families, wiping out part or all of their Bush tax cuts. -- The stealth tax boost on people making $30,000 to $500,000 was explicitly used to make sure that the super rich would get their entire Bush tax

POPSSAVE Act Discharge Petition Filed, Gaining Momentum
The Senate attached an immigration enforcement measure sponsored by Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) to its Fiscal Year 2009 Budget Resolution before passage on March 13. The amendment would create a deficit-neutral reserve fund that fully covers completion of the 700-mile border fence and at least 6,000 National Guard troops at the border. The fund also would cover: implementing the exit data portion of the U.S. VISIT entry/exit system at airports, seaports, and land ports of entry; training/ reimbursement for state and local immigration law enforcement under the Section 287(g) program; and expanding the zero tolerance illegal entry prosecution policy to all 20 border sectors. The principle mission of the caucus, which includes Republican Senators David Vitter (La.), James DeMint (S.C.), Jeff Sessions (Ala.), James Inhofe (Okla.), Elizabeth Dole (N.C.), Saxby Chambliss (Ga.), Johnny Isakson (Ga.), Richard Burr (N.C.), and Roger Wicker (Miss.), "promote a true, achievable alternative

POPSIf you still believe drugs should be illegal, If you still believe drugs should be illegal, answer this question... Why do you believe it is good policy to punish me--and 20 million adult Americans like me--because I choose to use marijuana in the privacy of my own home? Who benefits from this policy and how do they benefit? * Over 300,000 nonviolent people lose their freedom to prison/jail. * Thousands of murders, assaults, and robberies caused by drug crimes. * $20 billion/year in law enforcement costs. * $10 billion/year in lost tax revenue (similar to alcohol tax). * $5 billion/year in property losses due to drug-related crimes. * $50 billion/year and 500,000 jobs lost because of no hemp industry. Total cost = $85 billion/year = $500 per taxpayer every year!

POPSBonnie & Clyde The most interesting point to take and infer upon is that people have jobs that "create new fashions and cultural games for smart people to play and discuss". In other words, jobs that create the stuff you end up talking about as ultimately the "smart people" are those who disseminate new ideas via the media. (Albeit, tv, newspapers: arts & entertainment, opinion, comments and analysis etc...) You might call these people critics. The main point to remember is that the vast majority of people end up quoting these people. This makes me wonder about how many other jobs are out there that create attitudes, opinions and fashions? I think its always a good rule of thumb to keep a very close eye on where your attitudes and opinions come from. The next time you are asked your opinion on a topic, stop for a minute and ask yourself it is really your opinion?

POPSEnforce Existing Laws - Mushheads Complain The mayor doesn't like causing problems for people who broke laws to be here? POPSMardi Gras in the Murder Capital The police are making a record number of arrests, about 900 a week. They're just not getting the bad guys. According to the watchdog organization Safe Streets Strong Communities, 80 percent of detainees in the parish jail are being held for non-violent offenses, mostly low-level drug and alcohol charges. Two-thirds of the city's murders go unsolved.

POPSSan Francisco ups minimum wage to $9.14 an hour Good news for minimum wage workers in San Francisco! Six states increased their minimum wage as of January 1st. Twenty-three states mandate a higher minimum wage than the federal government. Federal minimum wage is STILL unchanged since 1997--a pitiful $5.15 per hour. Disgraceful.
