POPSPawn Swapping In peril in Pyongyang? How jailed female journalists were in greater danger sharing a plane with Bill Clinton The story has all the ingredients of a Hollywood blockbuster. Two beautiful girls in peril, an evil North Korean dictator holding them captive and, riding to the rescue, Slick Willy himself, former President Bill Clinton. As journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee collapsed, sobbing tears of joy, into the arms of their relieved families after being pardoned from a sentence of 12 years’ hard labour in North Korea, their palpable relief was perhaps enhanced by the flood of lucrative film, book and interview offers that came pouring in. The pair had been arrested on the North Korea-China border last March, accused of illegal entry and spying. Then, last Wednesday, the silver-tongued Clinton burst back on to the global political scene by flying to the world’s most secretive state for what its regime described as ‘sincere and exhaustive discussions’

POPSRight-wing Scum Mocks Freed Journalist
Because I have the TV on in the background when at the computer, I hear a lot of news. But for sanity and decent morality I must hit the mute button 100x's a day; but it's not enough. I gotta get quicker on the trigger. Even something as 100% pure positive as two of your citizens, woman journalist, getting freed from a foreign jail is trashed by our corrosive, toxic news and warped media -- as this clip shows. Right-wing nut job news also needed an angle to disparage this so they fabricated - just started saying something bad behind the scenes had to be offered to NKorea...we had to give up something or make concessions -- all without any need for evidence of this. If they want such a horrid example the "Iran-Contra," scam of Regan's was world-class wrongdoing. The NYPost had the headline: "Bubba Gets the Chicks." Oh...ha ha...no moment, no event can pass without such mean-spirited debased scorn...and this now applies to Everything. Now they also resort to more thug

POPSCurrent Journalists Nabbed and Jailed by North Koreans Sources close to the two journalists say they didn't even enter North Korea, and that they were snatched by North Korean border guards while on Chinese soil. The communist state claims they had entered the country illegally - allegations that have consistently been denied. Pyongyang's Central Court, the equivalent of the U.S. Supreme Court, tried the two journalists Laura Ling and Seung-eun or "Euna" Lee from June 4th to 8th and found them guilty, according to the state-run Korean Central News Agency. The Central Court's decisions are final and that means the reporters can't appeal the sentence. The two journalists were employed by former Vice President Al Gore's California-based Current TV.

POPS12 Years Jail Sentences For 2 US Journalists Imprisoned in NKorea U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Friday she was "incredibly concerned" about the plight of the two women. In working for their release, Clinton said she has spoken with foreign officials with influence in North Korea and explored the possibility of sending an envoy to the North, but suggested that no one would be sent during the trial. Another American who was tried in North Korea in 1996 was treated more leniently. Evan C. Hunziker, apparently acting on a drunken dare, swam across the Yalu River - which marks the North's border with China - and was arrested after farmers found the man, then 26, naked. He was accused of spying and detained for three months before being freed after negotiations with a special U.S. envoy. The North Koreans wanted Hunziker to pay a $100,000 criminal fine but eventually agreed on a $5,000 payment to settle a bill for a hotel where he was detained.

POPSWorld Press Freedom Day Saberi, Lee and Ling are professional journalists who are neither spies nor criminals. Through them, press freedom and the right to report the news freely are being taken hostage by Iran and North Korea. Why don't we hear more about these 'hostage' situations in the American Press. These are political prisoners and anyone who cares about the freedom of press should be up in arms about their incarceration.
