POPSSafety nets for the rich More: Enough! Goldman Sachs is thriving while the combined rates of unemployment and underemployment are creeping toward a mind-boggling 20 percent. Two-thirds of all the income gains from the years 2002 to 2007 — two-thirds! — went to the top 1 percent of Americans. We cannot continue transferring the nation’s wealth to those at the apex of the economic pyramid — which is what we have been doing for the past three decades or so — while hoping that someday, maybe, the benefits of that transfer will trickle down in the form of steady employment and improved living standards for the many millions of families struggling to make it from day to day. That money is never going to trickle down. It’s a fairy tale. We’re crazy to continue believing it.

POPSRemebering the roots of a REAL Civil War
More: After decades of mistrust and recrimination over the conflict between slavery and free labor, many in the North and South now found themselves even more fundamentally at odds. As Northerners increasingly hailed Brown as a hero, panicky Southerners execrated him as the devil himself. The tempest over John Brown appeared to shatter any hope of regional reconciliation. As one South Carolina editor put it, "The day of compromise is passed there is no peace for the South in the Union." It would be too much to claim that John Brown's raid made the Civil War inevitable. But it is fair to say that it helped to create an unbridgeable gap between the free states and the slave power that could only be, as Brown himself put it, "purged away with blood." There are many lessons that can be drawn from John Brown's raid, but the experience of the Civil War ought to stand as a permanent rebuke to the irresponsible incitement of contemporary political figures who trade so easily

POPSLink Party: Miley Cyrus Is a Bad Tipper • Since we’ve all had a chance to say good-bye to Miley Cyrus‘ Twitter, now it’s time to get back to good ol’ gossip. Like this gem: She went to Outback Steakhouse and didn’t tip on her $70 bill. According to her rep, “She didn’t know she was supposed to tip unless she was eating inside.” Too bad there isn’t some microblogging site or something where she can defend herself.

POPSAustralian & Canadian Employers Adding Jobs! ......after a 31,900 increase in August. The jobless rate was probably unchanged at a 33-year low of 4.3 percent. The Bureau of Statistics releases the report tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. in Sydney. Sustained jobs growth justifies the Reserve Bank's decision to raise its benchmark interest rate in August to damp inflation pressures in an economy that is growing at the fastest annual pace in three years. Miners are hiring workers as they expand to meet surging Chinese demand and retailers are opening new stores as consumer spending picks up. ``The odds favor another decent jobs number, consistent with the underlying strength of the economy,'' said Su-Lin Ong, senior economist at RBC Capital Markets in Sydney. ``We expect the unemployment rate to hold down at a three-decade low confirming the stretched nature of the labor market.''

POPSMedicare and Gag Orders "Meanwhile, we have the case of the Association for the Advancement of Retired Persons (AARP), and its fanciful Medicare claims. The self-styled seniors lobby is using all its money and influence to cheer on ObamaCare, even though polls show that most retired persons oppose it. AARP has spent millions of dollars on its TV ad campaign and bulletins and newsletters to its members, including eight million direct-mail letters over Labor Day. The AARP Web site claims that it is a "myth" that "health care reform will hurt Medicare," while it is a "fact" that "none of the health care reform proposals being considered by Congress will cut Medicare benefits or increase your out-of-pocket costs."

POPSIn support of the UC Faculty/Staff/Student walkout My wife is one of the thousands of UC staff who are walking the union picket lines today. Save public education! Pay those who teach and keep the university running rather than lining the pockets of the upper-floor executives! Note: If you're inclined to get all anti-union, my advice is this: save it. Not today, not on this clip. Because my wife & her co-workers and fellow union members are walking the line today. And I'll ban you in a heartbeat if you feel like getting up in my grill over this. Save it for another day.

POPSCultural Divide There is this disturbing elephant in the room. Mohammad took a bride who was 9 years old and consummated the marriage when she turned 11. Most people today would view this as depraved behavior. I'd like to know how modern day Muslims feel about this.

POPSThe Blackening of the president
Obama's white support trended slowly downward throughout the summer in the weekly Gallup poll, but took another relatively large (4 point) drop between July 19 and July 26, a fiery week that saw the arrest of Skip Gates, Obama's comment that Cambridge police acted "stupidly" in that incident, followed by Obama's "recalibration" of those words. I said at the time that Obama's commenting on the Gates mess was a mistake, even if it was a completely understandable one. Replying reflexively, as a victim of racial profiling, Obama was sincere -- but in that moment, there's no denying, he got blacker to a segment of the white population. That same crazy week also featured the rise of Birtherism as represented by a screaming woman interrupting moderate GOP Rep. Mike Castle's town hall claiming Obama wasn't born in the U.S. It was a harbinger: August brought a wave of frenzied anti-Obama organizing at raucous meetings -- what a Republican fundraising group proudly labeled "town hells" -- whe

POPSConservative squashes freedom of speech to destroy the Green for All Movement Looks like the Bush Commission is still having a stifling effect on the First Amendment- Freedom of Speech. The question of whether or not Former President Bush and Administration "allowed 9/11" to happen is pretty much irrelevant- the information that attacks were imminent was circulating within the government and it was not acted upon. Most people have probably forgotten that because Bush launched a war on Afganistan practically the same day the news came out.

POPSWhere's Waldo? "I guess you could cut off the battery packs," he said. "But it's so specialized it really doesn't have many other applications." There are two other drones with similar capabilities at Mote but they belong to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration -- and there are no funds available for them to perform Waldo's mission. "We'd have to go back to sending people out in boats to collect water samples," he said. "That's not a very efficient way to do it." Waldo, a scientific robot used to detect red tide, was last heard from on Monday. Mote is offering a $500 reward. Well it had a pretty long working life I suppose. It was probably eaten by a Great White Shark. That's my guess, anyway.

POPSOut: Commie Truther Green Jobs Czar. In: Union Hack “Manufacturing” Czar Bloom will continue to double-dip the government coffers as the Treasury Secretary’s car czar " oh, excuse me, “senior auto adviser.” Like so many of the Czars of the Obama Underworld, Bloom will serve in a completely superfluous position. Why does America need a “manufacturing” czar? Doesn’t the Department of Labor cover that jurisdiction already? No, Bloom has no actual, specialized experience in manufacturing. He does have a long track record of union hatchet jobs, though/ J.P. POPSNo Money For Mich Historic State Fair: Millions for Muslims & Lefties
desperate economy"gave hundreds of thousands of dollars to left-wing and Muslim artists through arts grants, and that it gave far more to the anti-Israel, Muslim-dominated Arab American National Museum and the Muslim-run Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services (ACCESS). In 2008"the last year for which an annual report is available"ACCESS got $9.7 milllion in grants from the State of Michigan and the federal government (Bush’s HUD and State Dept. gave millions to ACCESS over the years), more than half its annual budget. 2009 levels are unlikely to be significantly lower. For 2009-2010, ACCESS got a grant of $60o,000 from the State of Michigan as a “learning center.” In 2009, ACCESS got $16,000 in art grants from the State. And that doesn’t count the gazillions it gets from Michigan for “job training” (teaching Islamic terrorists how to get Commercial Driver’s Licenses and HazMat hauling certificates"yes, ACCESS really did that), health programs, etc.
