POPSFrom Jet Man to Pedal Man?
continues: "It's all going right. He is hovering about 10 metres from the water and is making a really good go of it." It marks the second attempt at the challenge by Rousson after he was forced to postpone a previous bid in June because strong winds made the feat too hazardous. The challenge is a long-held dream for Rousson, whose love affair with aviation grew as a child after watching Steven Spielberg's alien adventure and led to him gaining a pilot's licence. He said: "When I was young, I saw the movie and watched the little guy pedalling on a bike flying in front of the moon with ET. I always wanted to fly." Rousson had been banking on a five-hour wind-free timeframe to enable him to set off. The 16-metre-long helium-filled blimp, nicknamed "Miss Louise" after his former girlfriend, requires the wind should be gusting no more than two knots to become airborne. During the challenge, Rousson is sitting underneath the envelope in a carbon fibre gondola, powering th

POPSDenver cop slams a CodePink protester to the ground
God don't make no promises that He don't keep. You got some big dreams, baby, but in order to dream you gotta still be asleep. When you gonna wake up, when you gonna wake up When you gonna wake up and strengthen the things that remain? Counterfeit philosophies have polluted all of your thoughts. Karl Marx has got ya by the throat, Henry Kissinger's got you tied up in knots. When you gonna wake up, when you gonna wake up When you gonna wake up and strengthen the things that remain? You got innocent men in jail, your insane asylums are filled, You got unrighteous doctors dealing drugs that'll never cure your ills. When you gonna wake up, when you gonna wake up When you gonna wake up and strengthen the things that remain? You got men who can't hold their peace and women who can't control their tongues, The rich seduce the poor and the old are seduced by the young. When you gonna wake up, when you gonna wake up When you gonna wake up and strengthen the things t

POPSObama In Knots Over Cheney ----a vote that could be viewed as endearing if he hadn't more recently flipped on it as well. And as the Hot Air link provided by the inestimable Jim Geraghty at Campaign Spot notes, Obama explained in a Las Vegas TV interview this week that his vote on that bill was motivated by the fact that "this was the largest investment in alternative energy in history." So which is it Senator? Is Obama's complaint about the NEPDG merely grousing about process (a process complaint that led to wasteful federal litigation in which the Vice President ultimately prevailed)? Or is Obama-wan Kenobi playing gutter political games, trying to tar McCain with guilt by association with Cheney? (An association that isn't particularly supported by the record and with which, by the way, I would be more than happy to be "tarred.") Either way, it doesn't jibe with his "the One" narrative.

POPSWorld 1st: Wave-powered Boat Completes Journey from Japan to Hawaii
This guy is my hero! Horie told reporters in Japan: "The sea was so calm, and the weather was so great throughout my journey. That's why it took me so long," Kenichi Horie said of his historic voyage. The vitals are that Kenichi left Honolulu March 16th, arrived in Wakayama, Japan last night (which by our calculation makes 110 days), and covered over 3,400 nautical miles via wave power. "When waves were weak, the boat slowed down. That's the problem to be solved." !n 1996 Ken-ichi Horie has already set a world record for the fastest crossing of the Pacific Ocean in a solar-powered boat, preceded three years earlier when he pedaled a boat for 4,660 miles from Hawaii to Okinawa, setting the world record for the longest distance traveled by a pedal-powered boat. POPSMcCain Talking Himself into Knots over WWIII and the Draft NEWT GINGRICH: I believe, if you take all the countries I just listed that you've been covering, put them on a map, look at all the different connectivity; you'd have to say to yourself this is in fact World War III. LARRY KING: Senator McCain, do you agree? JOHN MCCAIN: I do to some extent. I think it's important to recognize that we have terrorist organizations which -- who are dangerous by themselves, are now being supported by radical Islamic governments, i.e., the Iranians, which makes them incredibly more dangerous because they are trained, equipped, motivated and assisted in every way by the Iranians. So that it's the Iranians that gave them the rockets that they are reigning down on Haifa as we speak. So what's the deal, Senator McCain? You going to call for a draft, or what? Or is this war in Iraq not the big deal you've made it out to be?

POPSObama: It's Only About Winning
But here's what's scary: For all of Kerry's reputed smoothness and Eastern intellect, he often tied himself in knots trying to reconcile his absurdly opposing positions. Obama can flip and flop with unmatched alacrity and facility and with the absence of self-consciousness and accountability of an accomplished sociopath . This guy doesn't even acknowledge he's changing positions; he does it without breaking a sweat and never looks back. I ask you to consider the common thread underlying these turnarounds his nearly immediate backtracking on whether Iran poses a serious threat to America; his progressive position shifts on Iraq from "don't go in, stay in, and get out"; and his vigorous defense then abandonment of both his pastor and his church. The common thread, in a word, is expedience. It is not toughness; it is not savvy; it is not gravitas; and by all means, it is not admirable. Barack Obama is every bit as politically calculating as Bill Clinton but twice as smooth.
