Among the dig's other finds are ruins spanning the time of the founding of King Solomon's Temple, around 970 B.C., to the destruction of Jerusalem by Christian crusaders in A.D. 1099.

continues: It is not the first time that Italy's most senior judges have chosen to smile indulgently at the smoking of marijuana in unusual contexts. Last July, the court overturned the conviction of a Rastafarian, Giuseppe G., as it concluded that the drug "was a possible conveyor to a psychophysical state connected to contemplative prayer ? in the belief that the sacred herb grew on the tomb of Solomon, acquiring its potency from that wise king".

Should Pope remove crucifix when he visits the Western Wall?
cakebelly
by cakebelly  3-22-2009    4
continues (more through link): Quoting King Solomon, the rabbi said the Temple in Jerusalem (the Western Wall is believed to have been part of the Second Temple, destroyed by the Romans in A.D. 70) was a "house of prayer for all people, not just Jews." He added, "We welcome this Pope. But he should show respect for other religions." But Catholics counter that it is the rabbi who should show a bit more respect for the Pontiff and not ask him to hide the cross that symbolizes his faith. Said Wadie Abunassar, media coordinator in Jerusalem for Benedict's trip: "I can't see the Holy Father removing his cross for any reason. He always wears a cross."

Lt.Col.(R) Allen B.West Calls For AG Holder's Immediate Resignation
merrie
by merrie  2-24-2009    1
on every opportunity this Country could afford, is pure foolishness. It also represents a malicious narcissism and hypocrisy from someone purported to be of great education. I am a West Man, third of four generations of military servicemen; Dad World War II combat wounded veteran, older Brother Vietnam Marine combat wounded veteran, my serving 22 years active duty in 13 different countries and three combat zones, and my young nephew, Captain Herman Bernard West, commanding an artillery unit serving his second tour in Afghanistan. We are proud American black Men who certainly are not indicative of a “nation of cowards”. Holder’s comments are offensive to the legacy my Dad established for our family. Attorney General Holder, do not ever refer to my Country with such manner of disrespect. I have stood with Americans in many foreign lands, seen them everyday across this Nation, and we are not cowards!

Spong: Spitzer's Compulsive Behavior and Ours
arifsali
by arifsali  3-15-2008    1
so deep in western civilization which has been fed so constantly by the Christian faith? Of course! Eliot Spitzer is simply the latest example of a rampant sexism that treats women as objects who are less than human. People will quickly forget Governor Spitzer and his high priced prostitute will not even be a footnote in history. I do wish we could some day realize that humanity is fully expressed in both males and females.

Freemasons::How And When Did They Begin?
merrie
by merrie  12-7-2007    1
Given the clandestine nature of the Freemasons, it's not surprising that they give careful consideration before admitting new members. To join, a man must fill out a petition and obtain two sponsors within the Lodge. He will then be voted in by secret ballot. Potential new members are asked whether they believe in God, and they must answer "yes" to be admitted. Although they don't have to be wealthy, members must have enough money to pay membership fees and to make the regular charitable donations that are expected of all Freemasons. New Freemasons start out as Entered Apprentices. During the initiation ceremony, the Freemasons recount the building of King Solomon's Temple and the murder of Hiram Abiff. The new member is blindfolded and confronted by three men, who order him to reveal the Freemasons' secrets. He swears he will not tell, and then pretends to die and be resurrected into Masonry.

The documents in question "reproduces the entire documentation of the papal hearings convened after King Philip IV of France arrested and tortured Templar leaders in 1307 on charges of heresy and immorality," which includes "a 14th-century parchment showing that Pope Clement V initially absolved the Templar leaders of heresy, though he did find them guilty of immorality and planned to reform the order, according to the Vatican archives Web site."

How a Lunar Eclipse Rescued Columbus
Kore7
by Kore7  10-16-2006    3
Such a dramatic episode didn't escape the attention of novelists, who later used eclipse occurrences in a similar way to further their own plots. You'll find the device in H. Rider Haggard's King Solomon's Mines, Mark Twain's A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, and even in Hergé's Tintin adventure Prisoners of the Sun. In some cases, the event is a solar rather than a lunar eclipse. And the details of the eclipse aren't always astronomically correct, especially in the movie versions of the books. But it worked for Columbus.
