Five Reasons Chrome Will Take Over the World
merrie
by merrie  Yesterday 11:48 PM
Consumer love-in Google has proved to be a master of wooing consumers, charming new users by offering free versions of traditionally paid-for services. With 70 per cent of the world's web searches going through Google's search engine, the company has built up a brand awareness so strong that the verb 'to Google' is already part of the lexicon. It's this popularity that could give Chrome a headstart and quickly turn it into a contender. Google's history of consumer-pleasing and unfussy design--think of its sparse, ad-free homepage--could serve Chrome well. Jupiter Research's Elliott said: "Google products are typically very easy to use and very consumer friendly. "They focus extremely heavily on this relationship and everything that they do keeps consumers in mind." Not convinced by Chrome? Read five reasons why it may crash and burn here... http://news.zdnet.com/2424-9595_22-219394.html

AMERICA'S IGNORANCE ON RACE
thinkingblue
by thinkingblue  9-2-2008
Sad, but let us hope that those who still hold on to their xenophobia and complete unfounded fears of anyone who looks different from themselves. Will, at long last, get so fed up with the status quo of the almighty greed and corporate powerbrokers, who use any tool to hold on to their powers. Consequently, making them realize that they are just pawns to the GREED GODS This "awakening" will end the long reign of power by those who only care about themselves. I can only dream.thinkingblue PS: this (utter stupidity) was a comment on one of my blogs... obama bin biden this might be silly but if you put Obama and Biden you come up with the name of osama bin laden ... come on .. how close is that name.. this is not good news for US to have osama bin binden as the people in charge.. i dont think this is an accindent .. you know this kind of scares me alot to see that name... WHAT STUPID HORSESHIT!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QM4NxHGb6iI (VIDEO)

Arsenic-eating bacteria rewrite evolutionary history
Mohir
by Mohir  8-16-2008
Oremland's team isolated and bred these bacteria in the lab. By growing them with with arsenite as the only possible food source, the researchers showed that the bacteria can indeed thrive. The results suggest that arsenic photosynthesis evolved at the same time, or even before, "normal" photosynthesis. Oremland says a similar mechanism might once have fuelled life on Mars or on Jupiter's moon Europa.

Silkweaver
by Silkweaver  8-13-2008
Dreams of interstellar travel may need to be put on hold for the moment, however. Cleaver and Obousy estimate that the amount of energy needed to influence the extra dimension is equivalent to the entire mass of Jupiter being converted into pure energy for a ship measuring roughly 10 meters by 10 meters by 10 meters. "That is an enormous amount of energy," Cleaver said. "We are still a very long ways off before we could create something to harness that type of energy." But what if we could make ourselves very very small??? I am ready to squeeze myself quite a bit to get really far... :-)

The Milky Way Over Ontario
merrie
by merrie  7-29-2008    3
Sometimes, after your eyes adapt to the dark, a spectacular sky appears. Such was the case earlier this month over Ontario, Canada, when part of a spectacular sky also became visible in a reflection off a lake. To start, the brightest objects visible are bright stars and the planet Jupiter, seen as the brightest spot on the upper left. A distant town appears as a diffuse glow over the horizon. More faint still, the disk of the Milky Way Galaxy becomes apparent as a dramatic diffuse band across the sky that seems to crash into the horizon far in the distance. In the foreground, a picturesque landscape includes trees, a lake, and a stone wall. Finally, on this serene night in July when the lake water was unusually clam, reflections appear. Visible in the lake are not only reflections of several bright stars, but part of the Milky Way band itself. Credit & Copyright: Kerry-Ann Lecky Hepburn (Weather and Sky Photography)

Micropbes Under Sea Floor Shows Possibility of Alien Life
Silkweaver
by Silkweaver  7-27-2008
However, this population lives at an unusual rate. Single-celled organisms usually consume food for energy and then rather than grow larger, simply divide and reproduce themselves. While the Bacteria Escherichia Coli, as an example, doubles its numbers every 20 minutes, these Archaea double on the order of hundreds or thousands of years and consume very little energy. "In essence, these microbes are almost, practically dead by our normal standards," says House. "They metabolize a little, but not much." According to House, organisms metabolizing at such slow rates is what we could expect to find in other areas of our solar system because such environments have much less energy available than on Earth. Perhaps, similar organisms may be in hydrothermal vents beneath the ice of Europa -- the second moon of Jupiter -- or in subsurface aquifers of Mars.

There is no climate crisis: Hoax revealed
willhelm
by willhelm  7-17-2008    47
The IPCC’s 2007 climate summary overstated CO2’s impact on temperature by 500-2000%; CO2 enrichment will add little more than 1 °F (0.6 °C) to global mean surface temperature by 2100; Not one of the three key variables whose product is climate sensitivity can be measured directly; The IPCC’s values for these key variables are taken from only four published papers, not 2,500; The IPCC’s values for each of the three variables, and hence for climate sensitivity, are overstated; “Global warming” halted ten years ago, and surface temperature has been falling for seven years; Not one of the computer models relied upon by the IPCC predicted so long and rapid a cooling; The IPCC inserted a table into the scientists’ draft, overstating the effect of ice-melt by 1000%; Mars, Jupiter, Neptune’s largest moon, and Pluto warmed at the same time as Earth warmed; In the past 70 years the Sun was more active than at almost any other time in the past 11,400 years.
