POPSBeware kids, while you’re singing his praises, Obama wants to get rid of Summer vacation While I think that it is a good idea to talk about modifying the 180-day, September-June school calendar that has become as much an American tradition as fireworks on the 4th of July, I don’t quite see the need for this to become a national issue, or for the Federal Government to mandate that schools modify their calendars based on a decision made by a bureaucrat in the Department of Education. As with most things in the education field, this is a matter best left to school boards at the local and state level and to the parents of the children being educated. But then again, what the hell does Obama care about American tradition....unless he's apologizing for it....

POPSJudicial Watch Files Lawsuit Against HUD to Obtain ACORN Documents (These states are California, Texas, Washington, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Arkansas, and Louisiana.) By law, HUD had 20 days to respond to Judicial Watch's request. Judicial Watch filed its lawsuit on September 23, 2009. Judicial Watch seeks the following records: 1. Any and all documents concerning money given to the ACORN and/or any of its affiliates (since January, 2000). 2. Any and all documents concerning any actions and/or disbarments against ACORN, for reasons including but not limited to abuse of grant money, misconduct, etc. (since January, 2000). Over the last two weeks, the U.S. Senate has voted to deny ACORN access to housing funds, while the House of Representatives voted to deny ACORN all federal funds. The U.S. Census Bureau, meanwhile, has severed its partnership with the organization for the 2010 U.S. Census. The IRS also just severed a program relationship with ACORN.

POPSPres. Andrew Jackson Warned against the Fed, a Private Central Bank This was his Veto letter for a private central Bank bill sent to him (under the guise of patriotism) on July 4th, 1832. The Fed, in principle, is precisely what he opposed, and his historic letter tells why. This is relevant because Congress is considering passing a bill to audit the Fed here and you can watch live Fri. Sept. 25th

POPSEllen to idol! -- wow! I think this will be huge for ratings...bad for music talent-- would be helpful to have someone in the field of music to be judging-- but i think she has such a huge following it will, at least initially, draw a huge audience

POPSYoung Man Dies for Lack of Public Option I want to tell you about my only sibling, my brother Eric De La Cruz.1 Diagnosed with Severe Dilated Cardiomyopathy five years ago and in need of a heart transplant, my brother Eric passed away far too early this July 4th. All because the health care insurance system in the United States is broken. You see, unlike most of us (but like millions of others), Eric couldn't get private insurance. His employer didn't offer it as a benefit. And his heart condition, while treatable, was a pre-existing condition that no private insurers would cover. Sadly, there was no affordable, public option to protect Eric. So he remained excluded from the basic right to life-saving treatment that all people deserve. Although a heart transplant would save him, without coverage, Eric's condition needlessly and slowly deteriorated. Continued at source....+ details of 'support health insurance reform' rallies around the US.

POPS Price Goeth Before a Fall
As the primary defender of the U.S. Constitution when writing The Federalist Papers, he fully understood the importance of the existing government and had no desire to revert to a monarchy. In February of 1791, the Bank of the United States was created with a 20-year charter. Carpenter Hall (shown above), located in Philadelphia and meeting place for the First Continental Congress, was selected as the Bank’s location. On July 4th of the same year, the country’s first official “IPO” (Initial Public Offering) took place, when stock in the Bank was sold to the public. And for all their fears and concerns, the stock sale created a frenzy. All the stock sold in an hour, and the rumor of double-digit returns in interest sparked a frenzied speculation that simply overran people’s sensibilities. People began trading their shares, called scrip, driving the price through the roof. They stopped working, they stopped running their businesses, and newspapers came out less . . .

POPSOne Marine's Letter-Perfect Constitutional Instruction Explained to the People in Congress!
Curtman cited interior National Guardsmen who were ordered to take weapons from citizens of the New Orleans area in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina as an example of orders that defy the Constitution. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y98HxYbsdBM&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Ffranklincountypatriots.org%2F&feature=player_embedded "If I did what some of our elected officials have ordered done, I'd spend my life in Leavenworth (prison)... My allegiance doesn't lie with any party," Curtman said. "My allegiance lies with the Constitution because that's where my freedoms lie." If you haven’t seen it yet, you can also watch the July 4th Tea Party videos here. http://franklincountypatriots.org/videos/ Joshua Smith, dressed in 1700's era military clothing, told the audience that a true patriot is someone who is willing to stand up to government entities for what they know is right. He said without the infamous Boston Tea Party, the Constitution might not exist.

POPSGive Thanks It's Not 1932 This article was actually written last November 2008, but I thought some perspective might be nice. We have many blessings to be thankful for this July 4th, and one of them, most assuredly, is that 2009 is not 1932.

POPSThe Significance of 18th of Tir ~ July 9th
. . . . . disillusioned, but also hardened and more fearless. I have been in Iran on the 18th of Tir several times over the past eight years, and have seen firsthand that security is always heightened that day. The regime knows that in its love for anniversaries, they’ve created a volatile beast that may need taming. Through the events of the past month it’s become very clear that deep cracks within the establishment exist, and they are now visible to everyone. A group of influential clerics in Qom have gone so far as to use the imagery of loss and mourning to begin to compare the recent death of protestors to those killed in the revolution and the war with Iraq. In a statement issued on the 4th of July, they asked to save “the dignity that was earned with the blood of tens of thousands of martyrs.” While such comparisons may seem early to some observers, the authors of the letter fully understand their intentions in making such a bold proclamation.

POPS2009 Wife-Carrying World Championship, Finland Finland also has Sauna World Championships. Held every year in Heinola, southern Finland, the Sauna Championships are open to all, and the winner is the person who can stay for longest inside a steamy room. Last year's male winner, Bjarne Hermansson, sat in a 230 degree box for 18 minutes and 15 seconds, admitting that there was "slightly more pain than pleasure."

POPSCynthia McKinney and the Kidnapping of the Spirit of Humanity Cynthia Mckinney, without support from her own government, stood up for the principals on which her country was founded 233 years ago and spent Independence Day inside a foreign jail. All people of peace and good will salute her and her colleagues who sailed the Freegaza Spirit of Humanity with the universal message of self determination.

POPSMarines March in Scorching Afghanistan Sun July 4
Some 4,000 Marines are moving through southern Helmand to take back Taliban-held territory and pinch the insurgents' supply lines. Bravo Company has seen a lot of walking but up to now little fighting, though other Marines in the operation have had extended battles. So far, the worst danger facing Bravo is the heat. Temperatures are well above 100 degrees (37.8 Celsius), and medics treated several heat casualties Saturday. "When (body) temperature goes up past 104, your brain starts cooking, and that's what we're trying to prevent," said Simon Trujillo, an HM3 Navy Medic from Dallas. The high heat, heavy packs, limited water and three straight days of walking through tough farmland terrain were taking a toll, he said. Several Marines threw up or were dry-heaving from the heat. Three passed out, and other Marines rushed to share the weight and pour water on overheated bodies. "It's pretty taxing on your body. There's no way to prepare for this," said Trujillo.
