POPSPlanet Robo: Population Will Exceed 1 Million Worldwide by 2010 "DO NOT TAKE A BATH WITH YOUR ROBOT WHILE JUGGLING CHAINSAWS." Best advice I’ve heard all year. But where are all of these robots? Mostly they are things like those little Roombas and Robomowers that creep in and around tech-savvy homes. The author identifies a looming problem, with military contractors driving the manufacture and spread of Robosapiens, we need to begin focusing on the ethics of their use for civilian applications. Getting a robot to identify the enemy under military situations is quite different from relying on them to patrol civilian streets. It’s no longer a great stretch to imagine robocops in patrol cars in the near future.

POPSDNA "Self Organization" the Future for Computer Technology I remember years ago reading that sci-fi book by Orson Scott Card called Xenocide. He put forth the concept that the communication between computers was "life". Well, reading this article kind of brings that concept kind of closer to becoming reality. Maybe it is just my far-fetched imagination??? More info at source.

POPSOne big ocean. Thousands of tiny ponds. The death of one-size advertising It's a common thread. Segmentation. Usually not measured up as a positive (because it makes things more difficult, supposedly) segmentation is the bi-product of media saturation. Where not livining in a one color television, one network, one newspaper kind of world any more. There are so many outlets that people have their eyes on these days, you have to find the brights spots, the best rabbit holes. And the easiest way to do that is by behavior. That market may have gotten fragmented but you can easily find out a persons behavior just by gleaning a few tweets. Where they live, what they eat, where they shop, who they like, who they don't like. Think of it this way. As marketers, we're no longer like Sisyphus pushing ONE huge rock up a hill, we're juggling a dozen or more pebbles riding a unicycle across a tight wire.

POPSComics, Magicians, and Mimes, oh my! From the Patriot-News Editorial: Gov. Ed Rendell is trying to do his part to aid the citizens of the commonwealth. His latest plan is to use about $15 million from the federal stimulus funds pouring into the state to try and change the mood of Pennsylvanians. The Patriot-News has learned that the money will be spent to hire clowns, mimes, magicians, street performers and comedians (nothing blue) who will be dispatched to malls, fairs and festivals across the state to boost morale. The merriment will be conducted through a new Headquarters of Economic and Emotive Efforts, or HEEE. So the next time you go to the Colonial Park Mall, look for the guy juggling bowling pins outside the Sears store, but if you don't catch him, we at least hope reading this will make you chuckle. After all, it is April Fool's Day. See more in Editorials

POPSOtto the octopus wreaks havoc "We knew that he was bored as the aquarium is closed for winter, and at two feet, seven inches Otto had discovered he was big enough to swing onto the edge of his tank and shoot out a the 2000 Watt spot light above him with a carefully directed jet of water."
