MYG | Don't compare her to Sarah or Arnold

By Sara Libby | SLATE.COM | "Whitman is instead billing herself as something few women could plausibly pull off: the future "CEO of California." In this way, she is the anti-Sarah Palin. She's no 40-something pinup, but she finished high school in three years and entered the Harvard Business School at 21. In the corporate world, she is known for her competence and cunning. Instead of talking about her political experience, she talks about her business expertise"years of working on branding at Procter & Gamble, Bain, Hasbro, and Disney, all of which led her to create the "Country First" slogan for John McCain's presidential campaign, of which she was national co-chair. Her campaign revolves around the GOP standbys of tax cuts, deregulation, and gutting welfare as the keys to recovery." ___ SOURCE | http://googlelabs.twi.bz/3 ___ SEARCH | http://google.twi.bz/sA __ MYG | MY GOV WATCH | My iWEB Blogs | http://me.twi.bz/p ___ ALTACITIES | http://altacities.com | http://me.twi.bz/X

Smoke The Bigots Out Of The Closet
debbyski
by debbyski  2-7-2010    9
"Those opposing same-sex marriage are just as eager to mask their bigotry." Oh, how very true. Many times here on CM, I have seen other's voice opinions that gay people ought to keep their relationships private--translation--in the closet. And that is where they want us to keep it because as more and more people do come out, it is harder for the thinking public to discriminate. Imagine if heterosexuals had to keep their relationships secret --and as more of them do realize that is wrong to demand that of homosexuals--society finally grows, changes, and becomes more tolerant of those who are simply born different.

We need to come up with new catagories to identify political ideologies: These Tea Party people sound like KKK-Zionist, imo. That very accurately sums up many of their views.

Under GOP/McCain Record Deficits Would Have Happened - Reports McCain's Top Campaign Advisor
BobbyRutan
by BobbyRutan  2-1-2010
In December 2009, the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities concluded that the then-$1.4 trillion annual deficit run by the government under Obama had much to do with the Bush administration's package of tax cuts, the wars it launched in Iraq and Afghanistan and its response to the recession. Those findings mirrored a report released a month earlier by the Democratic-leaning Center for American Progress -- which concluded that much of the deficit was owed to the decrease in tax receipts the federal government was receiving as a result of the recession.

Mr. Freeze: Why Obama’s Latest Budget Change Won’t Put His Agenda On Ice
merrie
by merrie  1-31-2010    1
Obama's "Freeze" By Philip Klein President Obama is set to announce a three-year "freeze" in non-security discretionary spending during his State of the Union as part of his efforts to convince independents that he cares about reducing the deficit. I say "freeze" in quotes, because some programs will go up, while some will go down -- thus providing the Obama administration wiggle room to say that Obama isn't reversing his position on an across the board freeze of the kind that he criticized John McCain for during the campaign. "An across-the-board spending freeze is a hatchet and we do need a scalpel because there are some programs that don't work at all," he said (video here). My position is, yes, this is mainly a symbolic gesture -- after all, the White House claims it would save $250 billion -- less than a third of the cost of the economic stimulus bill alone. It's only a temporary, three-year freeze that follows years of unprecedented spending and it comes as ....

"The cost of moving a handful of people and trying them and keeping them in New York City until the appeals are out could cost up to a billion and perhaps even over a billion dollars. So it will be done through the appropriations process," Wolf said. Graham said he's confident he can round up the votes. Democrats are particularly jittery following the election of Republican Scott Brown, who ran on a strong national security platform, to the U.S. Senate in Massachusetts last week. "There are a lot of Democrats who oppose the idea of sending them to New York City, putting them in civilian courts. And if I have another vote, I think I'll get a majority of the United States Senate," Graham said. Graham said he's concerned the administration continues to criminalize the war, and that the treatment of the alleged Christmas Day bomber -- who was read his Miranda rights hours after his capture -- underscores that point. "This is not Nuremberg, trying people after the

SUPREME COURT ....LOST IT'S MIND......!

by mountainpalm  1-24-2010    1
Link that set of numbers to the fact that it costs more and more to run for public office in this country. It was a shocker that the candidates in the last presidential election were working with war chests of upward of half a billion dollars. In fact, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, Obama raised and spent roughly $730 million, while John McCain raised and spent about half that amount. Obama avowed that he did not take lobbyists money, but that budget did not grow on small trees, even though it was only $2.50 for every man, woman, and child in the country. The point is that leading candidates were able to raise that kind of money while the decades old constraints were in place on corporate America. In fact, with Thursday’s decision the Court overturned its own 1990 ruling that barred corporations from using funds from their general treasuries to buy political advertising. Now the cat is truly out of the bag. In principle, corporations can now spend as much of the t

Bayh warns ‘Catastrophe’ if Democrats ignore Massachusetts senate race Lessons " The Note By Jonathan Karl - ABC News 01/19/10 Even before the votes are counted, Senator Evan Bayh is warning fellow Democrats that ignoring the lessons of the Massachusetts Senate race will “lead to even further catastrophe” for their party. There’s going to be a tendency on the part of our people to be in denial about all this,” Bayh told ABC News, but “if you lose Massachusetts and that’s not a wake-up call, there’s no hope of waking up.” What is the lesson of Massachusetts – where Democrats face the prospects of losing a Senate seat they’ve held since 1952? For Senator Bayh the lesson is that the party pushed an agenda that is too far to the left, alienating moderate and independent voters. Bayh warns fellow Democrats (more) http://bit.ly/58GG0a

Anyone looking at today’s political landscape with clear eyes can see that on issue after issue " the war in Afghanistan, the bailout, health care, the war on drugs, etc., etc. " the binary division of the debate into right vs. left obscures more than it reveals. John McCain and Maria Cantwell are joining forces to bring back Glass-Steagall-type banking regulations. Ron Paul and Alan Grayson are pushing through legislation to audit the Fed. George Will agrees with Russ Feingold that we should not escalate in Afghanistan. Howard Dean and Michael Bloomberg are both down on the health care bill. And on and on it goes. Obama won an award for “forming a multiracial coalition in winning his seat”. Cute. Michaele Salahi is getting quite a ribbing in the Press for lying about being a Redskins cheerleader, but Tareq is the much more interesting of the two to me. He has direct ties to Palestinian terrorists.
