Imagine Peace
sahara
by sahara  11-1-2009    1
The electricity for the light is generated entirely naturally - geothermally from hot water - at the Hellisheidi Geothermal Power Plant and is one of the reasons for situating the artwork in Iceland. The Imagine Peace Tower is closely connected to Ono's interactive artwork Wish Tree from 1981. The Wish Tree has been integral to many of Yoko's exhibitions around the world in museums and cultural centers where people have been invited to write their personal wishes for peace and tie them to a tree branch. Now amounting to over 700,000 wishes. They are to be housed at the Imagine Peace Tower. EarthCam visitors are invited to send wishes to the Imagine Peace Tower archives by email to wish@imaginepeace.com or by mail to: IMAGINE PEACE TOWER PO Box 1009 121 Reykjavik, Iceland. You can send as many wishes as you like, as often as you like. The site also has many live cams up all over the world, wicked cool stuff!

Ancient Greece's 'global warming'
billpar
by billpar  5-8-2009    4
Again, the Woodstock generation's thirst for specialness is way beyond narcissism. Plimer too recognizes: "The Mycenaean civilization fell at the expense of the rise of the Assyrian, Phoenician and Greek civilisations. Records from Troy show that it was cold, with famine around 1259 to 1241 BC and no recovery until 800 BC." However, I wonder if celebrities and pop scientists are capable of humbling themselves and seeing themselves as small-bit actors, specks of sand, in a larger play, spanning thousands of years, where cool periods and warm periods, visit us. One day, the Hollywood generation (and I'm singling out limousine lefties here), will thank their lucky stars, or whatever they worship, that they missed the cold Dark Ages, for it was "a terrible time to be around." Just read about the weather of Constantinople by Procopius, or similar observations made from a more southern city by one John of Ephesus. Plimer adds: "Around 540 AD, trees almost stopped growi

I've always loved the line, "They burned beseeching fires... / To keep the year alive." According to Susan Cooper's own site, the poem was written for the Christmas Revels project, directed by John Langstaff, but it does not give a date.

Bush's Auto Bailout is Cronyism: Cerberus Capital Mgmt and Dan Quayle

"Why would George W. Bush choose to bail out two companies controlled by Cerberus Capital Management, which is controlled by Bush cronies?" Savage asserts Bush is bailing out not the two automakers, but the Financial Group that holds large shares headed by cronies! Dan Quayle of course was VP under George H. W. Bush.

Sleet, Snow Tail Off In New Orleans
merrie
by merrie  12-12-2008    1
Outages were also reported in St. Tammany and Washington parishes, with the majority in the Franklinton area, according to Cleco spokeswoman Robbyn Cooper. Cleo has a total of nearly 7,000 power outages statewide, most of them in Allen, Evangeline, Acadia and St. Landry parishes. The metro area remains under a winter weather advisory for rain mixed with sleet and snow. Several bridges closed due to icy conditions, and numerous accidents were reported, especially on the north shore, because of slick roadways. The winter weather advisory is in effect until noon, but the chance of rain will linger until about mid-afternoon. Lows tonight will be in the mid-30s. No rain is in the forecast for Friday and temperatures are expected to warm up into the upper 50s during the day, with lows at night in the upper 30s. Saturday will be significantly warmer, with highs in the low 60s and lows in the 50s.

It's disgusting the way this whole Palin jazz is unfolding. Any objective person would see right thru her facade. A reat Mom? Maybe...but her teen daughter is pregnant out of wedlock. Not such good parenting there, is there? Popular in Alaska? that's great, but I live in Alaska and it's a racist filled state with some very strange (some wonderful, most not) people. And the politics there are stuck in the 50's, with a weird fringe twist. Finding a Progressive in Alaska is like findin a Polar bear in Arizona.

McCain acceptance speech: I WAS A POW

"And I have the scars to prove it. Senator Obama does not." How would he help poor people? "I will keep taxes low...My opponent will raise them." And then bemoans "partisan rancor." And the crowd breaks into a chant of "Drill, baby, drill!" This is a snow job if ever one has been foisted upon America. Give 'em answers that do nothing and make 'em feel patriotic about entropy.

Hope and Change—for McCain [Victor Davis Hanson]
merrie
by merrie  8-30-2008    1
He played well off the serial Obama gaffes like the tire-pressure sermon, while solidifying the base on abortion, drilling, and now his VP pick. He looks the relaxed candidate with the magnanimous reference to Obama's nomination in contrast to the herky-jerky ankle-biting from the Obama handlers over the Palin appointment. Now the pairing of the septuagenarian warhorse, alongside the youthful mom of five from Alaska contrasts well with two doom and gloom, DC natty liberal senators. The 72-year old McCain is still running behind the Messiah, and who knows whether the sudden 3.3 GDP good news on the economy, the stability in Iraq, and cooling off of gas price spikes will hold or play a role. But given the Democratic dynamics this year, the overt bias of the media, and the rock-star quality of Obama, being this close as September nears is a tribute to McCain's toughness and the savvy of his staff.

Senate Debates “Planetary Emergency” As Snow Falls
merrie
by merrie  12-5-2007    2
Nothing inspires taking on the “planetary emergency” of global warming like the first snow of the winter in Washington, D.C “We look around right now and see the snow on the trees – standing out here and say ‘Where is global warming when you need it?’” Sen. James Inhofe (R.-Okla.) said to the Business & Media Institute. Inhofe, the ranking Republican on the EPW Committee, said he was optimistic the bill wouldn’t make it into law, despite overwhelming support from committee members.
