POPSGetting To Know You "My guess is that most voters don’t see John McCain as an angry candidate, despite several very public lapses. The mythical John McCain is an affable, straight-talking, moderately conservative war hero who is an expert on foreign policy. Barack Obama is not the only candidate the voters need to know more about. " Back in 2007, a reporter asked McCain if he supported U.S. funded distribution of condoms in Africa to fight HIV transmission. McCain had a long series of awkward pauses and glances and later his press secretary said that the senator has a record of voting against using government money to finance the distribution of condoms. My question is this: What kind of a moderate, what kind of a mind, what kind of a human being, opposes the provision of condoms to save lives--in a region where 1 million died of AIDS in 2005 alone, leaving 12 million orphans and where some (cont)

POPSShould Barack Obama Have Skipped Europe And Gone Home? Yes, he was treated as an equal by a world leader. t was great theatre but the Frenchman came off as - how can I put this delicately - a complete clown. We'll see what happens in London but it'll be Gordon Brown hoping a little bit of the Obama magic rubs off rather than the other way round. And then there was the unseemly dispute with the Pentagon over Obama's abandoned plan to visit wounded American troops - something he could have done without. Perhaps the Illinois senator - who drew giggles from the assembled press when he had to point out in Paris that he was not the US president - should have flown back direct from Israel. POPSObama banks a solid, error-free Middle East trip it's still a key step since fundamentally this election is about hiring Obama, and overcoming the residual doubts (about his newness, youth, funny name, whatever) that are allowing John McCain even to stay in contention.

POPSAnother McCain Gaffe McCain has made so many mistakes, perhaps it should be considered newsworthy when he gets something right.

POPSSen. Obama Scrapped Plans To Visit Landstuhl Medical Center Obama had been planning to go to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany before a flight to Paris. Gibbs said the stop was canceled because Obama decided "it would be inappropriate to make a stop to visit troops at a U.S. military facility as part of a trip funded by the campaign." POPSObama's Idol Status Overseas Many in Washington were scratching their heads while he (McCain) was traipsing through the jungles of Colombia last month. But then came the freeing of hostages held by the FARC Colombian rebels, and McCain looked, well, presidential. And really, that’s the whole point of these “fact-finding” missions – looking good for the cameras. Perhaps these work vacations by politicians are more sophisticated than they first appear. Maybe Americans appreciate the fact that their presidential candidates are traveling beyond the confines of America and seeing the world firsthand. Perhaps, but do not be deceived. These are trips staged to the finest detail, with little left to chance and happenstance. Obama and McCain know this, and they have treated it as such – an extension of their political campaigns. Why do you think the network anchors are along for the ride? It is surely not because of the news quotient that the “surge” is working.

POPSObama backs Israel strike Just about his first words when he beat off Hillary were pro Israel. He now appears happy with the title of leader of a war machine. Seems happy to follow the Jews demands. Am I getting ahead of myself, as this sort of press doesn't really know what is happening.

POPSMcCain Blunders Again on Foreign Policy The "Iraq-Pakistan Border"? No expert on foreign policy clearly, or even geography. McCain made a big deal about going to Iraq many times before Obama, but he apparently did not learn very much about its location. Maybe that's how he got his plane shot down in Viet Nam.

POPSMcCain: The Mistake Machine Poor John McCain is a gift that keeps on giving to the Democrats. Mistake after mistake after mistake. I'm beginning to worry about pointing out his mistakes. I'm afraid someone will accuse me of making fun of someone with a "challenge" and it will be true.

POPSMcCain gaffes pile up; critics pile on McCain's mistakes raise a serious, if uncomfortable question: Are the gaffes the result of his age? And what could that mean in the Oval Office? Voters, thinking about their own relatives, can be expected to scrutinize McCain’s debate performances for signs of slippage

POPSCBS covers up for McCain Since the American media has bought into the myth of the Surge, they can't very well show things like these and expose themselves. Ooops...too late!

POPSThe Whiner that isn't Whining Sen. John McMad can't make up his mind. The press was against him yesterday but today it wasn't. McCain has all the characteristics of a pathologically angry person. He acts rashly out of anger, then gets regrets about it and enters into a period of denial. He is too much of a loose cannon to be President.

POPSJohn McCain is truly an angry and frustated egomaniac This pretender needs to chill out on one of his wife’s luxurious estates and tend the barbecue. It is very evident that he would turn over our government to the corporate powers who have been running it for the last eight years. Not this time. — Posted by Luke Wright

POPSA New Low In The High Life "Taken together, though, the plight of working women and Spelling's let-them-eat-cake, $47-million extravagance point to the fact that, all but unnoticed, America has slipped into a new Gilded Age, with all the inequalities that historical appellation implies. What do you suppose the chances are of getting either John McCain or Barack Obama to hit this issue head on? They're probably about the same as the odds that the Widow Spelling will end up sleeping in her car."

POPSVanity Fair Cover Satirizes John McCain "We had our own presidential campaign cover in the works, which explored a different facet of the Politics of Fear, but we shelved it when The New Yorker's became the "It Girl" of the blogosphere," Vanity Fair writes. "Now, however, in a selfless act of solidarity with our downstairs neighbors here at the Condé Nast building, we'd like to share it with you. Confidentially, of course."

POPSMedia "Obamathon" Couric Showcases Obama Over McCain The Media Is In Love With Barack It's pretty obvious that the media has a bizarre fascination with Barack Obama. Some may even say it's a love affair. Watch the video 2:56 http://www.johnmccain.com/ It has been an Obamathon ever since the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee touched down in Afghanistan. At today's press conference in Amman, a throng of reporters recorded his every move. In total, 200 journalists requested seats on “Air Obama” -- 40 of them were accepted. The bill for the trip? About $20,000 each.

POPSGet Your Morning Laugh Here The Young Turks is a show that can really give you a few chuckles. The host Cenk Uygur, is a funny guy. He sure called the shots on McCain describing him as a mumbling, grumbling, bumbling old man. Thanks Cenk, I needed that pick-me-up. Sorry McCain, if the shoe fits... Wear It! ;-) ---- (If the shoe fits, wear it) If something belongs or pertains to you, accept it. This proverb first appeared as “if the cap fits,” which may have referred to a fool’s cap. The later version has become more common and is associated with the glass slipper in the fairy tale, “Cinderella.”
