POPS Limo Libs Take A Hit Barney didn’t do so bad, though. Not so good at managing other people’s money, but a shrewd investor where his own bottom line is concerned. Rep. Barney Frank, chairman of Congress’ financial services committee, which oversaw the banking crisis, suffered relatively minimal losses as his net worth went from an estimated $1.3 million to $972,000, the study found. “The fact is it depends on where people had their money. In my case, I have been most heavily invested in assets that didn’t suffer major losses,” Frank said. “Members of Congress are full participants in the economy - for the good and the bad.” Here’s the net worth of the Massachusetts delegation. Boston Herald . http://bit.ly/70Lwaz Question: How do career public servants, who have presided over decades of mounting deficits and repeated financial debacles, rack up this kind of wealth? I know, there’s golddigging here, legacy there, stints in white-shoe law offices .......

POPSBishop Tobin, Self Appointed God
Bishop Tobin continues to dip his fingers and toes into the holy waters of the state. Acting as though he was god, he continues to threaten politicians who do not buckle under the pressures of his religious dogma. Not having dominance over those who have not been indoctrinated in the Catholic ideology (which must really piss this guy off) he badgers those who he can badger. Threatening them, that only he and his church can guarantee their ticket into heaven and only if they do his bidding. What total and archaic nonsense. Tobin the Thug probably would be sentencing people to the guillotine if he had been born hundreds of years ago when (in the western hemisphere) church and state were one. Now, I am sure there are intelligent clergy among those in the hierarchy of the Catholic church who believe and teach their flock that religion and state should be separated but apparently Bishop Tobin or should I say Holiest Highness Tobin is NOT ONE OF THEM. He's just another bully in my book.

POPSThis? You're going to cover this? so, let me get this straight - no single payer, "public" might not be an option, but one of your solutions to the problems we have with health care in this country is PAYING PEOPLE TO PRAY FOR YOU?!?

POPSFlu Knocks Out Elton's Tour Ticket holders for Elton John's Red Piano Tour will have to have to wait a little longer to see the Grammy winner tickle his famed ivories. The 62-year-old "Rocket Man" crooner was forced to cancel several concerts in the U.K. and Ireland and postpone three stateside gigs after he was doubly hit with an E-coli bacterial infection and the flu (the normal, not swine, variety) last week. Sir Elton is being treated at King Edward VII hospital in Marylebone London, according to the Daily Mail. The veteran performer was taken there Friday after his condition worsened and he was forced to cancel another performance in Dublin.

POPSDems In Mourning that they took away from Republican Gov. Mitt Romney when it actually looked like there might be a vacancy in John Kerry’s seat. In his later years, specifically the last couple of months, Kennedy was to come to believe that democracy would be best served by ensuring a placeholder is in office to vote on the Kennedy Memorial health care monstrosity … tragically now on life support though possibly about to benefit from a new infusion of animation due to Kennedy’s demise. A lot out there today on Kennedy’s charm, collegiality. I’ve always been charmed by the knowledge that this paragon of American democracy/champion of the little guy tried to kill the scrappy conservative blue-collar tabloid I work for as part of his feud with Rupert Murdoch, with the 1988 FCC cross-ownership ban. The Boston Herald … still alive and kicking today, and having made considerable efforts at reconciliation … joins the world’s media in honoring the fallen Lion: Legend mourned.

POPSPush for Kennedy Successor Stirs Political Storm
Now, with Mr. Kennedy dying three years before his term was up, some Massachusetts Democrats are reversing course, calling for Democratic Gov. Deval Patrick to appoint an interim replacement to hold office until the special election can be held. They now argue the state shouldn't be without full Senate representation for months, especially with pressing issues such as health care before Congress. The Massachusetts situation is the latest to erupt over filling vacant U.S. Senate seats, following particularly messy appointments in New York and Illinois. Away from the political infighting, mourners lamented Massachusetts's loss of clout in the U.S. Senate. "Whoever goes in will not have remotely close to the influence he had," said Ted Glynn of Boston. "That's a big concern." The question of how to fill Mr. Kennedy's seat is vexing Democrats. In 2004, Mr. Kennedy supported a special election rather than a gubernatorial appointment. Yet more recently, he wrote to Mr. Patrick . .

POPS Ted Kennedy Dies At 77 Over the decades, Senator Kennedy put his imprint on every major piece of social legislation to clear the Congress. "We've lost the irreplaceable centre of our family and joyous light in our lives, but the inspiration of his faith, optimism and perseverance will live on in our hearts forever,'' a family statement said. "We thank everyone who gave him care and support over this last year, and everyone who stood with him for so many years in his tireless march for progress toward justice." The Kennedy family said he died at his home in Hyannisport, Massachussetts. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said the senator was a great American, a great Democrat and a great friend of Australia. AAP

POPSTed Kennedy is Dead He lived too long to receive the mythologizing that his older brothers received and, so, strode among us more like a man than a demigod. Of course, the mythologizing of Jack and Bobby placed them at level Ted Kennedy would never achieve. His lot was to stay behind and watch over the Kennedy clan and do the hard work in the Senate over decades, work that has wrought justice and help for millions of Americans. He has always been my favorite of the three and I have often wished that he could have been President. I think he would have made a good and principled president. I'm sorry that he's gone. I'll miss his fire and compassion and fearlessness in promoting a righteous cause. Many are the better because Ted Kennedy lived.

POPSTim O'Reilly - Seeing our culture with fresh eyes More: What will people think of our enormous steak dinners and obese portions of food? That's on the cusp of changing. What will they think of our profligate use of fossil fuels and other non-renewable resources? Our assumption that the American way of life will go on forever, just as it is, much as the British thought their empire would go on forever? What about our assumptions about unlimited technological progress? Will science fiction visions of star flight or "the Singularity" seem as quaint as "the White Man's Burden"? Above all, what will they think of the appalling amount of waste in our culture? Have you ever walked through a tourist area - say Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco - and seen entire stores devoted to schlock, made in developing countries by people who must scratch their heads in wonder at a people so wealthy that they can afford to spend money on things that are so utterly and obviously useless?

POPSRare copy of Declaration of Independence found The last Dunlap print to be found was sold at an auction for $8.14 million in 2000. National Archives officials said they weren't sure how the Declaration of Independence copy ended up there. Archives spokeswoman Frances McDarby said it was "possible that an American coastal vessel was intercepted by the British navy and that is how the document was able to come into our possession." The prints, known collectively as the Dunlap Broadside, were the first copies of the Declaration of Independence. They were printed by John Dunlap of Philadelphia and distributed to political and military leaders, including George Washington, and dispatched throughout the colonies to be read to the public.

POPSMistranslation or Fraud by DeCotta, McKenna & Santafè ? The blogger has proof that one of DeCotta, McKenna & Santafè`s partners, Jon Sutton, has used fraud in order to bring Mr. Kirwan`s property in Spain on public auction. Jon Sutton had an English Court Order translated and brought to Spain. The translation altered the Court Order 180 degrees giving Mr. Kirwan`s ex. wife (and her lawyers) the right to conduct the sale of the Spanish property – when in fact Mr. Kirwan was given that right by the English court.

POPSInsurance Giant Takes Down Sign On Water St. Offices
"Our main objective is to highlight the distinctions between out well-performing business and the challenges confronting AIG," John Doyle, a newly-appointed AIU honcho, said In other words, the sign removal is step one to distance AIG's main insurance businesses from the financial products unit that helped tank the economy by betting billions on toxic mortgages and credit default swaps. The name AIG became synonymous not just with incompetence but with greed after it was revealed that some of the geniuses responsible for $100 billion in losses were in line for $1 billion in retention bonuses. "I think the AIG name is so thoroughly wounded and disgraced that we're probably going to have to change it," new AIG Chairman Edward Liddy told a Congressional subcommittee last week. Taxpayers are so teed off with AIG that the company has warned workers - some of whom have received death threats - to lay low and avoid speaking in public about the company or sporting clothes with its

POPS"Media Malpractice" How Obama Got Elected and Palin Was Targeted Maybe it’s something closer to an Agatha Christie mystery where everyone’s the murderer. The victim, of course, is American journalism. Even for those of us who obsessively followed every twist and turn of the 2008 presidential election, watching Ziegler’s autopsy of the grisly affair, starting with the primaries and ending with the days immediately following Barack Obama’s securing of the Presidency, is to experience in a comprehensive way the breadth and scope of American media corruption. Watching election coverage in real time last year was often frustrating to the point of outrage, and for the first half-hour of “Media Malpractice” the old outrage returns. But what Ziegler does is summarize his case like a prosecutor delivering a closing argument, bringing the disparate pieces together into something much more important than a narrative.
