POPSIsrael has at least 150 atomic weapons: Carter Greatest crime on earth In his speech Carter described Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip as "one of the greatest human rights crimes now existing on Earth." "There is no reason to treat these people this way," he said referring to the blockade, in place since the Islamist Hamas movement seized Gaza in June 2007. According to Carter, the failure of the European Union to support the Palestinian cause was "embarrassing." He said European countries should be "encouraging the formation of a unity government," including Hamas and Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas's rival Fatah movement. Carter was president from 1977 to 1981. During that time, he helped negotiate a peace treaty between Israel and Egypt and concluded a strategic arms agreement with the Soviet Union.

POPSI'm not sure what @jimmy_wales is talking about here I don't really relate to anything in this statement. I know that Jimmy Wales has accomplished great things on the web, particularly with wikipedia - and i have great respect for that. But this particular statement seems to be the kind of thing you say to an audience that really has no idea and will just agree with whatever you say. For one, a lot of Web 2.0 content is still about silly stuff, who is he kidding. And angry ranting blogs most certainly still persist - and that is a good thing! i hope those angry ranting blogs never go away...they are an important voice in the global conversation. And to say that the quality of the content is equal to magazines and television is just odd. I don't see the content coming out of the social web having any correlation to magazines or television that would justify any comparison, either good or bad...they're just very different.

POPSIs Wiki going weaky? "If the site grants new powers to editors, it would bring Wikipedia even closer to traditional encyclopedia websites such as Britannica, which last week announced that it would be launching a new online version that would allow readers to submit their own updates to entries. That change came after a bitter war of words, following a 2005 study by science journal Nature that found Wikipedia and Britannica were often comparable for accuracy - and in some cases, Wikipedia won."

POPSIsrael 'has 150 nuclear weapons' Most experts estimate that Israel has between 100 and 200 nuclear warheads, largely based on information leaked to the Sunday Times newspaper in the 1980s by Mordechai Vanunu, a former worker at the country's Dimona nuclear reactor. The US, a key ally of Israel, has in general followed the country's policy of "nuclear ambiguity", neither confirming or denying the existence of its assumed arsenal.

POPSCarter: Israel has 150 nukes Given Israel's habit of invading others, is it any wonder other nations want to protect themselves? They are responsible to their people for national security, and see Israel (and the USA) as likely aggressors. And why shouldn't they, given recent history?

POPSThe battle for Wikipedia's soul "To create a new article on Wikipedia and be sure that it will survive, you need to be able to write a “deletionist-proof” entry and ensure that you have enough online backing (such as Google matches) to convince the increasingly picky Wikipedia people of its importance. This raises the threshold for writing articles so high that very few people actually do it. Many who are excited about contributing to the site end up on the “Missing Wikipedians” page: a constantly updated list of those who have decided to stop contributing. It serves as a reminder that frustration at having work removed prompts many people to abandon the project. Google has recently announced its own entry into the field, in the form of an encyclopedia-like project called “Knol” that will allow anybody to create entries on topics of their choice. But even if it does not turn out to be the Wikipedia-killer that some people imagine, it may push Wikipedia to rethink its editorial stance."

POPSWikia Search - Can it Disrupt Google? Wikia Seach was recently launched and everyone agrees that it, well, sucks. But here, Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia and Wikia Search explains that while the search so far isn't good, its the way Wikia Search is built that will eventually make all the difference.

POPSSecret mailing list rocks Wikipedia Secret mailing list rocks Wikipedia a rogue editor revealed that the site's top administrators are using a secret insider mailing list to crackdown on perceived threats to their power. Many suspected that such a list was in use, the list's existence is confirmed, the rank and file are on the verge of revolt. uber-admin called "Durova" used it in an attempt to enforce the quixotic ban of a longtime contributor agenda without scrutiny from the community at large

POPSA Wicked Wiki World? No question it's tough to run an encyclopedia based on the hard--but ultimately gratis--services of millions of people. And particularly tough on the people who work the hardest. Are they the guardian angels of the site and should use some discretion to boot people off? Or are they being petty and cliquish and just trying to get rid of people who don't share their views? Would love your thoughts.

POPSAustralian Press Prank On Wikipedia's Jimmy Wales Ha ha I love questions 5 and 10 brilliant. I left a bit out of the story but basically the person asking the questions was not part of the press gallery but a member of satirical show on Australian TV. The questions were fired off in a row without waiting for answers. Jimmy managed to answer 4 of them to his credit.
