52 Race Cards in Every Deck Plus the Jokers
merrie
by merrie  9-18-2009    7
For instance, William Jacobson @ Legal Insurrection thinks there's "An Allergic Reaction To The Race Card" coming right up: The increasingly hysterical use of the the race card by liberal columnists, bloggers and politicians reflects the last gasps of people who, being unable to win an argument on the merits, seek to end the argument. Perhaps, but the allergic reaction is taking place among Americans watching the Race Card being tossed, not among the tossers. Until the suppurating buboes of their spiritual plague break out in their armpits, the Race Card players will keep on flinging. The speak-softly-but-carry-a-sharp-stilletto neo-neocon in The racers may not win this race is pinning some hope on the people and the polls. Alas, you know what they say about holding hope in your hand: So far, the American people don't seem to be buying the racers' arguments. Both writers cite this Rasmussen poll indicating that only 12% of Americans think opponents of Obamacare . . .

Black Activists Call Senate Slavery Apology "Useless"
clip-on-tie
by clip-on-tie  6-23-2009    9
Washington, D.C. - The U.S. Senate resolution apologizing for slavery and segregation will be used as a lobbying tool to acquire reparations payments, say members of the black leadership network Project 21. The group urges the Senate to "move on." It was the Democrats who fought to keep blacks in slavery and passed the discriminatory Black Codes and Jim Crow laws. The Democrats started the Ku Klux Klan to lynch and terrorize blacks. The Democrats fought to prevent the passage of every civil rights law beginning with the civil rights laws of the 1860s, and continuing with the civil rights laws of the 1950s and 1960s..

Top 10 Racist Limbaugh Quotes (Leader of the Rebubbacan Party)
BobbyRutan
by BobbyRutan  5-11-2009    12
 9. I think the media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. They’re interested in black coaches and black quarterbacks doing well. I think there’s a little hope invested in McNabb and he got a lot of credit for the performance of his team that he really didn’t deserve. 10. Limbaugh attacks on Obama. Limbaugh has called Obama a ‘halfrican American’ has said that Obama was not black but Arab because Kenya is an Arab region, even though Arabs are less than one percent of Kenya. Since mainstream America has become more accepting of African-Americans, Limbaugh has decided to play against its new racial fears, Arabs and Muslims. Despite the fact Obama graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law school, Limbaugh has called him an ‘affirmative action candidate.’ Limbaugh even has repeatedly played a song on his radio show ‘Barack the Magic Negro’ using an antiquated Jim Crow era term for black a man who many Americans are supporting for president. Way to go Rush.

Matthew Yglesias: Conservatives Against Being Against Racism
jklugman
by jklugman  5-7-2009    1
And it’s not just a quirk of Beck’s. This attitude goes deep in the DNA of the modern conservative movement. National Review’s position on Civil Rights was that segregation was bad, but the cure of the civil rights movement was worse than the disease of white supremacy. Barry Goldwater campaigned for president on the proposition that Jim Crow might be bad, but not nearly so bad as the Civil Rights Act. As the policy status quo shifted, the precise nature of the conservative position changed with it so that now affirmative action is worse than discrimination against minorities and “political correctness” is worse than racism, but the basic spirit is the same.

A Conversation Unfinished
debbyski
by debbyski  3-27-2009    2
“You took your life into your hands every time you went out on the road,” he said. It was, of course, a relief to come upon a black-owned service station. But he said that you could drive from Charleston quite nearly to Baltimore before finding one. He continued to speak out against injustice and never let himself be flattered into the role of the black factotum who would conveniently declare the race problem solved. If anything, the militancy grew fiercer over time. It reached its zenith in “Mirror to America,” which recounts in vivid detail how the decision to segregate the armed forces poisoned American civic culture. He refused to serve during World War II for a country “that had no respect for me little interest in my well-being.” I had hoped to sit down with him one more time to reconstruct that trip back in 1941. I must now do that without him."

I am laughing with joy and crying. I've cried so much, even during McCain's speech. Another dream fulfilled - the dream since I was eight years old. I wish my mother was alive. She ran away from the Jim Crow south shortly after her first cousin, my cousin, a man named Huey was tortured and lynched. Thanks everyone who helped make this dream come true. I love you all.

Mostly African American Children are Assaulted Legally in Schools
DanaGarrett
by DanaGarrett  8-20-2008    3
Just as slavery, Jim Crow laws and the subjugation of women in the USA are looked upon as primitive and embarrassing practices, I believe that corporal punishment in schools will someday be looked upon as a strange and inexplicably cruel practice. It will also be looked upon as another vehicle of racism as this study indicates. What will the conservative critics say in response? That African American children misbehave more in schools and, therefore, deserve the punishment? But isn't that what they say about higher incarceration rates for African Americans? So what is the picture that emerges from those who rationalize these institutional racist practices? In my view, it tells us that (their denials notwithstanding) conservatives believe that from childhood to adulthood African Americans are naturally more disposed to violate cultural norms, to act out in an anti-social manner. It's a racist orientation masquerading as a pro law and order stance. Corporal punish

Bush and Blacks
merrie
by merrie  8-17-2008    1
The message—both in words and action—is clear, consistent, and stirring . This year he joined forces with Washington D.C.’s black Democratic mayor, Anthony Williams, to win passage of the first federally funded voucher program, which will provide $7,500 each to poor minority children in the nation’s capital, giving them some of the same educational options that their wealthier neighbors enjoy. The Bush administration has also tried hard to help lift Africa out of its deepening misery. Last year, the president pledged $15 billion—a twenty-fold increase from Clinton-era funding levels—to help stem the AIDS pandemic sweeping the continent, and he has sent troops and diplomatic envoys to try to quell violence in Liberia and Sudan. African-relief activist Bob Geldof recently acknowledged, “The Bush administration is the most radical—in a positive sense—in its approach to Africa since Kennedy.”

Beer for My Horses: Toby Keith's Ode to Lyching
zizzy
by zizzy  8-6-2008    3
During the days when Toby Keith's "Grandpappy" stalked the Jim Crow South, lynching was an institutional method of terror employed against blacks to maintain white supremacy. According to the Tuskegee Institute, between the years 1882 and 1951, 3,437 African-Americans were lynched in the United States, mostly in the heart of Dixie. Felonious assault and rape (read: corrupting "the flower of white womanhood") were the two most frequent justifications for lynch mob actions.

Democrat House "Apologizes" for Slavery
pkronfield
by pkronfield  7-30-2008    2
This is but another stupid liberal attempt to pander to blacks for their vote this November. The trouble is, the United States Government had nothing to do with "forcing Africans into slavery". In fact it was Arab slave traders who did that. And it was the United States government who went to war to abolish slavery. This government doesn't owe negros an apology. It is the negros who owe gratitude to the United States for the bounty and opportunity afforded them. Another proof that liberals are unfit to run our magnificent country.

"As Anyone Should Apologize"--Finally an Apology for Slavery
DanaGarrett
by DanaGarrett  7-29-2008    2
This has been long overdue, too long. But it is finally here: an apology for slavery and the Jim Crow laws. This apology should be non-controversial. Nothing, absolutely nothing, is lost by making the apology and something important can be gained: namely, the good will and sense of relief for those who have labored a long time to make the apology happen and those African American parents who can now tell there children that slavery was a great wrong the USA perpetrated against their ancestors but the USA realized it and apologized for it. In the words of the apologies principal sponsor, Tennessee Democrat Steve Cohen: "Slavery and Jim Crow are stains upon what is the greatest nation on the face of the earth," Cohen said. Part of forming a more perfect union, he said, "is such a resolution as we have before us today where we face up to our mistakes and apologize as anyone should apologize for things that were done in the past that were wrong." " s anyone should apolog
