POPSdrunk driver jailed 20 years "The collision occurred on Jan. 20, 2006, the day Yellowknee had just been released from jail. He had been drinking all day and, by 5 p.m., he was staggering around the Sawridge Truck Stop in Slave Lake, a bottle of Silk Tassel Rye tucked into his jacket, trying to hitch a ride up to Wabasca. Slave Lake is about 250 kilometres northwest of Edmonton. Minutes later, he was behind the wheel of a stolen white pickup truck, speeding out of Slave Lake on the highway with the police in pursuit, lights on, sirens blaring. He fishtailed, hit the shoulder, shot over the yellow line and slammed head-on into a black car. He killed everyone inside. Misty Chalifoux, 28, died instantly, as did two of her daughters - nine-year-old Trista Chalifoux and 13-year-old Michelle Lisk. Six-year-old daughter Larissa was airlifted to hospital. She died the next day. Yellowknee's blood alcohol level was .22 that night, nearly triple the legal limit of .08."

POPSTrain drove over 2 Dead Drunk Men. "When the driver stopped, he saw two heads underneath the train." Well two heads are better than one or non. Note the sentence despite "the court hearing that one had 33 previous convictions while the other had 63 previous convictions." 5,000 plus Brazilian fans, most of them resident in Ireland, cheered Brazil to victory in the 80,000 capacity Croke Park.

POPSYouTube suspends Egyptian anti-torture activist's account
But in a comment on Hamalawy's post, Mostafa Hussein said that YouTube's terms of service prevent the posting of such videos: Well, the message from youtube is that waelabbas violated their terms of use. This is actually true if you take a look at it. It states that content should follow the community guidelines . In these community guidelines, there is this statement saying "Graphic or gratuitous violence is not allowed. If your video shows someone getting hurt, attacked, or humiliated, don't post it." Outside of Egypt, Stan Schroeder writing on Mashable, a site which covers social networking, questioned why Abbas' account was suspended when other videos of violence are on the site: OK, why then can I find dozens of videos of people getting tasered by the police? If you ask me, a video of someone getting shocked with a high voltage weapon can definitely be described as graphic violence. And many will argue that the violence in such videos cannot be

POPSUK Cell-Phone Drivers Will be Jailed This is tyranny, but may come here next. FACT: Allstate insurance in the U.S. just announced a major increase in auto rates due largely to increase of accidents from teenage drivers using text messaging or cell phones that accidents were attributed to. (Then why not increase rates for just teenagers?) Pay attention when you drive--get a hands free unit and don't text unless you want to see these kind of penalties in the U.S.. I hate driving at night and seeing people with the "glow" in their hands while steering on the freeway, and its worse in town.

POPSMegan's killer/rapist saved by NJ politicians The bill was introduced in November after a state commission concluded capital punishment was an ineffective deterrent to crime. New Jersey has not executed a prisoner since 1963. I bet jail wouldn't be a deterrent to crime in a state that hadn't jailed someone in 45 years either.

POPS "Ahmadi-Pinochet, Iran Will Not Become Chile!"
A new demonstration at Tehran University on Sunday, damaging the main gate to allow outsiders into the campus and denouncing President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, news agencies reported. The protesters chanted slogans against the president and carried banners calling for the release of three fellow students who have been held since May in a high-profile case, the Fars news agency state-run IRNA reported. Arabshahi said the protest lasted for more than two hours after starting at 12:00 pm (0830 GMT) and that it was peaceful. "We are gathered here to say students are alive and are critical of wrong polices," IRNA quoted another unnamed student as saying. The demonstration came a day after the intelligence ministry said it had arrested an unspecified number of people using "fake student cards to hold an illegal demonstration" at Tehran University. The timing of those arrests was not given, but it is likely that they took place before Friday which was annual students' day in Iran

POPSImmunity for Blackwater and Torture for Muslims In case anyone out there is still wondering "Why do they hate us?" allow me to illustrate: American Blackwater guards, employed by the State Department, who are above the Iraqi law and beyond Military law, go on a shooting spree in traffic, leaving a dozen innocent civilians dead. The half-hearted US investigation is undermined by a reflexive offer of immunity. On the other hand, Arab Muslims, or anyone else more swarthy than Nathan Lane, can be abducted off the streets and tortured in secret detention camps or military prisons, with no legal recourse. Our government pardons its hiered killers and arbitrarily tortures people based on their race and religion. That's pretty damn shocking. So why is it so controversial to say "These people should go to jail." They haven't just broken the law, they've made a mockery of American principles. And yet, we feel no shame.

POPSForgetting the Victims: The NYT She killed her victims in the Sbarro restaurant in Jerusalem. This fits in with the anti-death penalty people. They want to elevate the murderers to hero status while practically dancing on the graves of their victims. Disgusting. Horrifying.

POPSTax Dodgers Taunt Police and SWAT This is outrageous! These people are just doing a big publicity stunt to avoid hard time. Law enforcement should have never let this situation escalate to this point. I hope once they are finally arrested, they get more charges. If they somehow get out of jail time, that's going to send a really bad message.
