Green light for internet filter plans
tabsey
by tabsey  12-15-2009
Most teens know about sites which will relay access to the banned sites. They use them at school to overcome the limitations placed by teachers. The firefox addon, "Web of Trust" should work for accidental visits by kids. Watching what the kids are using is difficult. Not many parents are not surprised by their children's antics at some stage. The govt thinks it has to be seen making an effort.

Do not Use $$$, !!!, FREE in your SAP Email Marketing Campaign
biancafinn
by biancafinn  12-7-2009
Never use words like 'FREE', symbols like $$$, ALL CAPITAL LETTERS or excessive font colors in your message as they trigger spam filters in ISPs. Try to avoid these in your email so that your message is not label as 'spam'.

The Ongoing Battle Over How the Web is Run
sincitykitty
by sincitykitty  11-11-2009
There is a sinister side to ISPs having this kind of power. Proponents of net-neutrality"people who believe that everyone should be free to do whatever they please on the Internet without interference or limitation so long as they pay their monthly bill"forsee a future where ISPs will milk money out of their subscribers by instituting a tiered system of Intenet provision. People would only be able to access more bandwidth by paying more money. Even worse, they could “throttle,” or choke out the connection, of anyone found doing anything with their connection that they didn’t approve of, controlling the sites you were able to visit.

United States Pushing International, Mandatory Copyright Laws. Guilty Until Proven Innocent!
ratilfar
by ratilfar  11-5-2009
"* * Mandatory prohibitions on breaking DRM, even if doing so for a lawful purpose (e.g., to make a work available to disabled people; for archival preservation; because you own the copyrighted work that is locked up with DRM)" Now that is a worriying development. Let see the Teabaggers chew on this. Nah, it's a pro-corporate treaty which enforces American will on the REST of the world, so it doesn't set off the NWO alarm bells.

iiNet case could set piracy precedent
tabsey
by tabsey  10-6-2009    1
To me it is a problem between the owner of the rights and the people abusing those rights. They have the details of who downloaded, who uploaded and who sneezed. The laws are cockeyed. In Australia, if you go to the pub, get pissed, drive and have an accident, you can sue the licensee of the pub. The govt will have already booked the licensee for selling to an intoxicated person.

Established content providers in film, television and music, hope that aggressive enforcement of copyright law will ensure that their 20th Century business models survive against the onslaught of the network society. Evidence that heavy downloaders are also heavy music purchasers doesn't seem to have made any difference to the approach either, and instead of finding new business models they hold on to the old ways of working. The larger ISPs in the UK, Virgin, Sky and BT, are also content providers with their own interests in shoring up the current copyright regime. The spaces within which we can live unobserved are constantly diminishing, as both public and private sector agencies link their databases together or co-operate to ensure that nothing we do goes unremarked. Once ISPs decide that they are no longer neutral carriers of bits and choose to ally themselves with the content industry then we lose another sliver of freedom.
