POPSAftermath of Iran Elections Iran 'disqualifies' EU from talks Britain has denied allegations of involvement in the Iranian riots The EU is no longer qualified to take part in talks on Iran's nuclear programme, Iran's military chief says. Maj-Gen Hassan Firouzabadi, Iran's chief of staff, accused the EU of "interference" in riots which followed June's disputed presidential elections. EU states, meanwhile, are considering withdrawing their ambassadors from Iran in a growing diplomatic row. Britain proposed the step after Iran detained nine of its embassy staff last week. Eight have since been released. The BBC's European affairs correspondent Oana Lungescu says senior officials from EU capitals will discuss the request in Stockholm on Thursday. But diplomats say that Germany and Italy - Iran's biggest trading partners in the EU - oppose it, arguing that channels of dialogue with Iran should be kept open.

POPSActivists protest bailouts near Wall Street Did not hear of any protest on Fox, CNN, or MSNBC. Also, nothing in NY Times or Wall Street Journal. After first learning of it via IReport on CNN I googled and found this report from Reuters of the protest on Friday NEAR Wall Street. Evidently the protesters were not allowed to protest within hearing distance of the very people they were protesting against. This is the state of our ‘right to protest’ controlled by the powers that be. The IReport covers an apparent second protest that occurred on Saturday Apr 4 ON Wall Street when Wall Street was closed. Guess they wanted to do it so they could have bragging rights that they actually protested on Wall Street. Here’s the IReport clip: http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-239743. Here’s a little more info on Bail Out the People website: http://www.bailoutpeople.org/

POPS7 Bu!!s#!t Rumors That Caused Real World Catastrophes Everybody loves a good rumor. Already today you've probably passed on some juicy bit of information you heard, without first rigorously tracking down its source. Who cares, right? But sometimes, a tiny scrap of bullshit can result in fortunes lost... and sometimes much, much worse. A (Fake) Story of Child Abuse Sparks the Harlem Riots 13 people suspected of penile sorcery were arrested by Congolese police and back in 1997, seven people were lynched for suspected penis-stealing/shrinking offenses. September 2008: A soccer riot killed 13 Congolese people after accusations of on-the-field witchcraft enraged the crowd. 3 More Rumors at link: http://www.cracked.com/article_16869_p2.html

POPSCitizen Journalism And Steve Jobbs It is simply silly to decry "citizen journalism" because one "citizen journalist" got the story wrong, intentionally or otherwise. Actually, the term "citizen journalism" is silly. It is a way for big media to differentiate themselves from the "citizens". People say things on the street. People say things in their home, at work, on the train, and in email, Twitter and on their blogs. This is all information. The fact that it continues to be necessary to think about what you hear and run it through filters is no different for any information source. I certainly would never take a CNN, or Fox or MSNBC news story as gospel. Would you?

POPSWhat a Great Idea This idea makes total sense! People use a ton of energy at gyms using the various cardio machines. Why not convert that into energy that can be used by the gym. Or even better, why not find a way to hook the gyms up to the grid to be able to drive power to it? I think there's a ton of potential here!
