China Goes Out With a Bang.......
merrie
by merrie  8-26-2008
........ and The Whimper of the Oppressed is Barely Heard........ I wonder, though, if anyone oohing and aahing over the fireworks in Beijing gave thought to the thousands of Chinese peasants who will die because their government took their water away so it could produce the fake beauty of the Olympic compound. Maybe we’ll see that story show up in an NBC news report, do you think? I’m sure the network will get right on that as soon as it gets up off its knees and straightens up its clothing.

Beijing Olympics-- Opening Ceremony ...Update: Iraqis Given Rousing Ovation
merrie
by merrie  8-17-2008
The beautiful woman in the Iraqi delegation is sprinter Dana Abdul-Razzaq. President Bush and Laura Bush joined in the ovation. http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.com/2008/07/olympic-panel-lifts-ban-on-iraq-allows.html Final thoughts on the Opening Ceremony-- Amazing! China put on a wonderful show. UPDATE: I posted the Iraqi version video after the NBC clip was yanked.

Olympics Opening Fireworks Faked
serial_number
by serial_number  8-14-2008
It should have been obvious what the Chinese were looking for in an opening when they hired Steven Spielberg. After he bailed over Darfur (did he ever intend to follow through with the gig in the first place?) the producers stuck with their script and made the best show they could. So if some CGI shots and some lip-syncing found their way into the spectacle why is anyone surprised? Don't get mad about the cute girl who can't really sing. Get mad about the the 12-year old gymnasts. The latter have a strict code to follow that is set out by the IOC. The former is just show-biz.

Google's Olympic Extravaganza
merrie
by merrie  8-10-2008    1
Google’s main Olympics page has different designs depending on the country. The China homepage is more colorful than the US homepage. In the US, you can launch videos, gadgets, and see the current medals won overlaid on a Google Map (the latter is also featured on a standalone page). There are stories collected via Google News as well. The YouTube Olympics channel is only available in some countries, being geo-IP-banned elsewhere. “The IOC’s Channel will be accessible in territories where digital VOD rights have not been sold or have been acquired on a non-exclusive basis,” the press release explains. As previously mentioned, another onebox in results pop up when entering queries like taekwondo olympics, though it doesn’t work in every country (I added the “gl=us” parameter to the search URL here so you can see it). http://www.youtube.com/ytsummergames http://www.google.com/landing/summergames2008/index.html

Beijing Psyops Prepare Olympic Athletics For Brutal Smog

Despite traffic restrictions put in place to reduce pollution, the city's air combined with warm temperatures and high humidity could create "a soupy mix of harmful chemicals, particulate matter and water vapor." Before we start eviscerating the U.S. economy with carbon trading, perhaps we could get China on board some sort of cleanup program since it has 16 of the top 20 polluted cities in the world.

“Journey of Harmony” of the Olympic Torch Of Shame
merrie
by merrie  4-6-2008    2
(continued) wretched political environs. Handling the politics of the Olympics will clearly be a matter of some delicacy. The Chinese ambassador in London may yet absent herself from today’s event. Gordon Brown and his cabinet should do likewise. The British, led by Tessa Jowell, the ensnared Olympics minister, periodically intone their “concern for civil rights in China” as if it were a Buddhist mantra. It makes no difference. From the moment the Games were awarded to Beijing, all involved knew they risked becoming quislings to the Chinese cause. China last week welcomed the British government as a member of something called the Olympic family. If this is a family, I hope that for the next four months it is an intensely unhappy one.
