Google Unleashes Its Own Public DNS
GridIron
by GridIron  12-5-2009    1
Be very afraid. Just kidding. Well, half kidding. It could very well be the standard from the get-go, due to Google brand name backing and the easy to remember 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 addresses. Do you want Google to know every single web site and page you have visited? Some people may not care, but some people concerned with privacy may disagree. If you're already a huge Google fan and first-mover, then you probably don't really care that they can read your email, office documents, calendar, voice mail, health records, and have a picture of your house.

BetterPrivacy 1.29 - get rid of those flash cookies!!
The Infowarrior
by The Infowarrior  9-6-2009
Ever wondered why you are still tracked though you tried everything to prevent it? Google now uses flash cookies that don't even get recognised by most cookie filters and don't expire until 2038. Supposedly Microsoft are to be using something similar with Bing as do Yahoo. On my 1st use of it it removed 127 flash cookies that didn't show up when I use other "cookie cleaners" While you cannot always ensure your privacy, by using the right tools you certainly improve your odds.

How to Unblock Sites at Office or School and Bypass Internet Filter
bestcosmeticsurgeryl
by bestcosmeticsurgeryl  7-24-2009
Freedom is a gift and inherent to mankind - We want to live our own "online" and "offline" lives and don't like to see sanctions imposed. In this article my focus is online freedom - Yes bypassing internet filters applied in our offices, schools and universities or simply bypassing restrictions on internet surfing without anybody knowing your activities.

Web filters to censor video games
The Infowarrior
by The Infowarrior  6-28-2009
Any infringement on the freedom of the internet is inherently a bad thing, once they start restricting sites (which has already been going on for a while) what is to stop them expanding the restrictions to other things like the alternate media etc?

Web filters to censor video games
tabsey
by tabsey  6-25-2009
Censorship has failed to win support for actions against adults, so the govt makes an emotive effort to gain approval from those adults acting as parents. Once accepted in principle, the govt acts as if it has approval for the original plan. The games are rated to keep the sus ones out of shops because the parents buy them for the kids. Evidence says kids can develop wrong attitudes to such things as violence, so the govt can feel justified.

Lists like this are akin to the police ringing a crim to ask his whereabouts so they can arrest him. And will always have errors, are open to mischief, the filters will stuff the system (as the idiots in power have been told on more than one occasion).

Web censorship plan heads towards a dead end
tabsey
by tabsey  2-26-2009    2
The pressure groups are still making the minister act as if he wants it to have a chance. There is only one answer - supervise your kids, talk to them, take away the "forbidden booty" aspect, check the history regularly (if trust is not there). Being inquisitive is ahead of education according to Einstein.

Labor's 'deafening silence' as web censorship trials delayed
tabsey
by tabsey  1-31-2009
Nice to know that there are bigger problems than censorship. The Govt knows that it has promised to upgrade the whole system, and it must do that before it claims enough ownership to even conduct trials on censorship. They also may have accepted that there is no efficient filter system available.

Free Nationwide Wi-Fi Network To Censor Political Websites

Blogs, social networks, alternative news to be filtered out I wonder if Clipmarks will be among them? If they want to block "alternative political websites, that go against the corporate establishment", blogs, alternative news and social networks, then half the internet will be banned! *LOL* Damn, if this wasn't so ridiculously fascist, it would be funny.

3 Great Linux Router - firewall
jcastellanos713

Ever since I started playing with packet filters on embedded PCs, I wanted to have a nice web-based GUI to control all aspects of my firewall without having to type a single shell command. There are numerous efforts to create nice firewall packages with web interfaces on the Internet (most of them Linux based), but none met all my requirements (free, fast, simple, clean and with all the features I need). Then I found these great alternatives

On line threats materializing faster
kkcapricorn
by kkcapricorn  7-29-2008
online criminals have latched on to programs that help them automatically generate attacks based on publicly available information about vulnerabilities. In the past they apparently spent more time finding such holes themselves, but no longer find that as necessary. "The bad guys are not the ones actively finding vulnerabilities - they've shifted their business to standing on the shoulders of the security research community," Kris Lamb, operations manager for X-Force, said in an interview. "They don't have to do the hard work anymore. Their job is packaging what's been provided to them."
