The taxpayers are going to give subsidies. It’s not going to make healthcare affordable, but it’s going to cost the taxpayers a lot of money to give these subsidies. Private health insurance is a defective product. We know from our studies of bankruptcy that the majority of Americans who face medical bankruptcy start their illness with private health insurance but are bankrupted anyway by gaps in coverage, like co-payments, deductibles and uncovered services.

The results are quite sobering. The study shows that "between 2010 and 2019 the cumulative increases in the cost of a typical family policy under this reform proposal will be approximately $20,700 more than it would be under the current system." Mr. Owens indicated in his press release today that "This legislation will reform the insurance industry and provide increased access to affordable healthcare without taxing healthcare benefits, cutting Medicare benefits or raising taxes on the middle class, and that is exactly the direction.....

POPSHouse passes health care bill FTA: The legislation would require most Americans to carry insurance and provide federal subsidies to those who otherwise could not afford it. Large companies would have to offer coverage to their employees. Both consumers and companies would be slapped with penalties if they defied the government's mandates. Insurance industry practices such as denying coverage on the basis of pre-existing medical conditions would be banned, and insurers would no longer be able to charge higher premiums on the basis of gender or medical history. In a further slap, the industry would lose its exemption from federal antitrust restrictions on price gouging, bid rigging and market allocation.

Like the bank scams on Wall St. and elsewhere much of it happen when lawmakers, like George Bush especially, removed rules and regulations that allowed banks to sell products that had no real value or sell default insurance when they didn't have the cash to pay off. Like a lot of politics it's not Left vs. Right -- it's the SuperRich exploiting the taxpayers and middle classes and getting special advantages for themselves. Now this has been revealed in the U.S. Health Care Insurance business. It's been revealed --- after months and months of discussion (and previous years of efforts) that this business has an exemption from laws about price fixing and other business collusions.! Dang! It took us this long to find out! It's been like this for all our lifetime! (most of us). They make the biggest bucks --- they make the greatest profit of any USA business -- and they have and keep this exemption to fair play rules that would require fair play competition!
