POPSFor Veterans Day — Real Troop Support "According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, nearly 42 million American men and women have served during wartime. Nearly 1.2 million died while serving. Nearly 1.5 million were wounded. Since 9/11, more than 5,200 have died in Iraq and Afghanistan. Nearly 36,000 have been wounded — many have debilitating injuries that have changed their lives forever. We may debate the rightness or wrongness of various engagements, but we know that freedom comes at a steep price — and we honor those who have secured it for us."

POPSWe Owe Veterans and Active Duty Warriors Better Than This Cheney's old firm let their sub-contractors expose US soldiers and Iraqi's to a burning toxic waste pit that will cause years worth of injuries and illness. Cotracting out is good for profiteers like the former- Vice President and his buddies but an evil brew for our troops.

POPSZheng Gu Shui Our acupuncturist pronounces it "Zen Goo Shway". Similar to Ben-gay and other topical liniments, Team LexiMonkey always keeps a couple of bottles of this stuff on hand. our local Vietnamese grocery carries it, Excellent for aches and pains and bruises. There are stories of fighters breaking an arm, soaking the arm in ZGS, taping it up, and going on to win the match. Our acupuncturist discounts the literal interpretation of that story, but this is really great stuff.

POPSIn defense of jaywalking More: today the word jaywalking is often used as a sort of blanket justification for the dominating presence of cars on city streets. It also reflects a social bias against those people not in cars. (Note this comment in a Federal Highway Administration report: "Still, almost no one can avoid occasional pedestrian status," as if they were discussing exposure to a venereal disease.) …the Netherlands, which has essentially legalized jaywalking, has an enviable pedestrian safety record. …Finally, read newspapers very carefully. A number of studies have documented that media coverage of traffic crashes is selective, framed in certain predictable ways, and often misrepresents the true frequency or nature of actual risk. Jaywalking makes better copy for columnists than actually probing the complex nature of traffic safety.

POPSRunning Doc: How to prevent "marathon feet" More: Here are some things you can do to prevent and/or treat "marathon feet": * Train on the same surface you plan to run on. If you are training for a marathon on roads, the treadmill or a soft track will not prepare your body for the pounding… * After the race, and you are urinating normally…you may take (e.g., aspirin or ibuprofen) unless your doctor has told you that you cannot due to a contraindication. * Most important: Immediately upon returning home or to your hotel post-race, soak your feet for 15 minutes in an ice bath. This is the best way to avoid this middle-of-the-night pain. Now, if you have pain the Monday after the event, 15-minute ice baths three times a day and may be necessary for two days to ease the inflammation. If you feel bony tenderness, see a doctor sooner than later -- what you have may not be "marathon feet" but rather a stress or full fracture of a bone in your foot.

POPS'Scar Eating' Enzyme Aids Spine Repair
Other teams have shown that delivering an enzyme from bacteria that digests scar tissue may help. "The problem has been this enzyme is really sensitive and degrades very fast," says Bellamkonda. He says the enzyme, chondroitinase ABC (chABC), is heat sensitive and must be repeatedly injected or infused into the body to work. Hollow straws Bellamkonda's team found a way to overcome both of those issues. They mixed the enzyme with a sugar called trehalose that made it stable at internal body temperature. And instead of injecting the enzyme into the spinal cord, they put it into tiny hollow straws just twice the length of a single cell. They inject these at the injury site in a special gel that keeps the straws in place. Bellamkonda's team tested the system in rats and found the enzyme prevented scar tissue formation for up to six weeks. "The goal is that at the time the surgeon is removing the offending (vertebrae) bone after the injury you would inject this gel to si

POPSRunning Doc: When is it smart to drop out of a race? More: The physician's caveat: These "rules" do NOT apply if you take a pain med before you run! As you know, I never recommend NSAIDs when you run, but also do not believe in taking preventive meds to stop you from feeling the pain in the first place. Pain plays an important role, in that it helps you to know when to stop. Masking the pain prevents you from knowing when to stop and may lead to a more serious injury.

POPS"American Patriot and SEIU Beating Victim".... 3 Months & No Charges Filed!!! as he handed out yellow flags with “Don't tread on me” printed on them. He spoke to the Post-Dispatch from the emergency room of the St. John's Mercy Medical Center, where he said he was waiting to be treated for injuries to his knee, back, elbow, shoulder and face that he suffered in the attack. Gladney, who is black, said one of his attackers, also a black man, used a racial slur against him before the attack started. It just seems there's no freedom of speech without being attacked,” he said." The fact that Gladney was selling flags is not in question here. That was well-known. What is at issue here is the beating, not what Ken was selling. GWP scooped the story http://gatewaypundit.firstthings.com/
