POPS£6,500 a fling for philandering fat cat The secret of a long marriage was simple for Robert and Elizabeth Charlton. Every time he cheated on his wife he would make it up by buying her a gift. Instead, she acquired diamond jewellery whenever her wealthy husband strayed - and it seems they both notched up quite a collection in their 26 years together.

POPSReally useful (but not expensive) kitchen gifts they'll truly appreciate A few notes: An oven thermometer doesn't make your oven more functional, it makes it functional . The Perfex pepper mill is a bit pricey, but literally heirloom-quality – I inherited mine from my mother, almost 15 years ago, and she'd had it for as long as I can remember. A Dutch oven is really useful for a variety of things; the monkey and I have a small, 2-quart version that works nicely for the two of us. The Benriner mandoline is a kitchen delight, and can be found for as little as $15 at many Asian grocery stores. Microplane zesters and graters are a pleasure to use. And I'd recommend bamboo spoons over wooden, myownself. Didn't clip the tiffin box because I think the choice of how to carry one's lunch is strongly determined by individual taste, and it's a mistake to try to guess what somebody else will like. (I wouldn't like or use a tiffin box, f'rinstance.)

POPSCelebrate Christmas, Not Santa! My husband and I decided that teaching our kids about Santa was not teaching them about values. But it was a great way to break their spirit (if they were good but did not get what they wanted) or make them greedy (if they always got what they wanted--whether naughty or nice). The truth is that mommy and daddy work very hard to provide them their gifts and there is zero reason to give the credit to an invisible man--unless of course we do wake up one morning and there are presents that have suddenly materialized under our tree. We talk about the "spirit" of Santa, what he stands for. But, my kids already know (at the age of 7 and 5) that Santa does not really exist.

POPSGreat Holiday gift for 2-5 yr olds for a great price My nephew just got this for the holidays, and i just picked it up for my daughter- this magentic building toy is loads of fun, and the starter kits are pretty inexpensive. It's also great b/c you can add on to the collection. I think it's a big hit gift!

POPSChristmas Party Games Some of the games sound like fun. Others might be fun given enough spiked punch. Anyway, some ideas here for holiday party givers. We used to have some fun with a White Elephant gift exchange at the office holiday party. Santa's Beard Relay Race sounds interesting....hmmm
