The rotten estates England
notareargunner
by notareargunner  11-5-2009
Everything that is bad about the English system is evidence here. These lazy, greedy perpetrators of perpetual socialism have been protected by the liberal correctness regimes put in place by successive governments. Everything about that statement is wrong, except the facts. The fact that these people are allowed to raise more generations of worthless flesh is as abhorrent to the hard working Briton as the devious and malicious enterprises of the Bankers and their cohorts, the politicians. Absolutely no system has the panacea for all societies’ ills, but this system that relies on the influential few to circumvent the wishes of the people by allowing the ill-educated to proliferate whilst Labour imports their supporters from foreign lands is treason. Get the illiterate masses educated. Once they learn the hard lesson of real education they would have no need to wallow in self pity, smoke their tax free cigarettes and produce off-spring that every tax payer I the land has to subsi

Energy Crisis Postponed: New Gas Rescues The World
merrie
by merrie  10-12-2009    3
Tony Hayward, BP's chief executive, said proven natural gas reserves around the world have risen to 1.2 trillion barrels of oil equivalent, enough for 60 years' supply " and rising fast. "There has been a revolution in the gas fields of North America. Reserve estimates are rising sharply as technology unlocks unconventional resources," he said. "The common wisdom was that unconventional gas was too difficult, too expensive and too demanding," he said, according to Petroleum Economist. "This has changed. If we ever doubted that gas was the fuel of the future " in many ways there's the answer." The breakthrough has been to combine 3-D seismic imaging with new technologies to free "tight gas" by smashing rocks, known as hydro-fracturing or "fracking" in the trade. The US is leading the charge. Operations in Pennsylvania and Texas have already been sufficient to cut US imports of liquefied natural gas (LGN) from Trinidad and Qatar to almost nil,

Energy crisis is postponed as new gas rescues the world

"The common wisdom was that unconventional gas was too difficult, too expensive and too demanding," he said, according to Petroleum Economist. "This has changed. If we ever doubted that gas was the fuel of the future – in many ways there's the answer." The breakthrough has been to combine 3-D seismic imaging with new technologies to free "tight gas" by smashing rocks, known as hydro-fracturing or "fracking" in the trade. The US is leading the charge. Operations in Pennsylvania and Texas have already been sufficient to cut US imports of liquefied natural gas (LGN) from Trinidad and Qatar to almost nil, with knock-on effects for the global gas market – and crude oil. It is one reason why spot prices for some LNG deliveries have dropped to 50pc of pipeline contracts. We may soon be looking at an era when gas, wind and solar power, combined with a smarter grid and a switch to electric cars returns the country to near energy self-sufficiency.

Japan Abandons America
foxyarse
by foxyarse  9-27-2009
During the run-up to the election, Hatoyama’s finance minister told the bbc he was worried about the future value of the dollar, and that if his party were elected in the upcoming national elections, it would refuse to purchase any more U.S. treasuries unless they were denominated in Japanese yen. Japan is the world’s second-largest economy. It is also America’s second-most-important creditor. The U.S. government owes Japan over $724 billion! The only nation America owes more money to is China ($800 billion). The U.S. also imports $140 billion worth of goods from Japan each year. If Japan were to follow through with its threat to only lend in yen, the dollar would probably fall hard. What would that mean? America gets more expensive consumer goods, higher unemployment, and currency inflation. If other nations like China follow suit, we would be looking at a currency crisis—Zimbabwe-style.

Understanding Government Subsidies
sahara
by sahara  9-24-2009    1
There are many people who will rally behind "socialized" oil, but read on: Hidden Oil Subsidies The real price of gasoline is what people actually pay for it, not just what they pay for it at the pump. That might seem subtle, but there's a big difference. The Cato Institute, a libertarian think-thank, did a study on the subject. What they found is simply mind-boggling. They calculated that the US spent between $30 to $60 billion (with a 'b') a year safeguarding oil supplies in the Middle East during the 1990s, even though its imports from that region totaled only about $10 billion a year during that period. A more comprehensive study that includes the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and other oil protection services (the coast guard is clearing shipping lanes and doing navigational support to oil tankers, etc) shows that actual subsidies to Big Oil are between $78 to $158 billion (again, with a 'b') per year.

“It’s Life Has Come To An End” Ahmadinejad Lays The Smack Talk On Israel
merrie
by merrie  9-18-2009    3
Ahmadinejad’s fresh comments came ahead of his appearance at the United Nations General Assembly next week and before Tehran attends talks on Oct. 1 with major powers worried about the Islamic Republic’s nuclear strategy. NUCLEAR PROGRAMME Ahmadinejad repeated on Thursday that Iran would “never” abandon its disputed nuclear programme to appease critics. In an NBC-TV interview, he also offered no direct response when asked whether there were any conditions under which Iran would develop a nuclear weapon. “We don’t need nuclear weapons,” Ahmadinejad said, speaking through an interpreter. “We do not see any need for such weapons. And the conditions around the world are moving to favour our ideas,” he added. President Barack Obama, who came to office pledging to engage with Iran, has suggested Tehran may face harsher sanctions, possibly targeting its gasoline imports, if it does not accept good-faith talks by the end of September.

Obama Rejects Afghanistan-Vietnam Comparison
drummond1999

Obama does not believe that comparisons between Afghanistan and Vietnam are accurate, for his sake, I hope he is right. Meanwhile the recent move to increase tariffs of Chinese tire imports may lead to tit-for-tat from either side. Though finally Obama believes that there is no need for any further economic stimulus packages, the worst is over.

Columbian Protest Chavez
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  9-4-2009
This is another one of the Alice in Wonderland stories....the Colombian military and government are funded by the USA, a big part of the Great Drug Wars, covert military actions for decades going on. The real story now is U.S. troops going to Colombian bases...up to now it's been CIA and covert actions. One thing, it would be nice to honor the U.S. Constitution and "declare wars," rather than just slip and slid into them as we have been doing since WWII. Now we're in a era of endless lifetimes of global war...without the proper authorization required by the Constitution...thus, illegal, this, wrong. We infect Central and South America. We're in Africa. Killing Iraq and targeting Iran. Pressuring Russia on it's borders Like most imperialist the government and military has a long list of reasons...but if their reasons were honest then the proper procedures for declaring war would be honest too.
