EU Opposes Israel Settlement Expansion
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  9-8-2009    1
The demand to end Israeli settlement expansion couldn't be any clearer. The USA also quite firm and clear on this. Other major nations also speaking out on their own. This dramatic reversal from 60 years of turning a blind eye to Israeli's ongoing aggression appear to have -- thankfully -- turned. When members of my immediate family fought against Germany and Japan (3 silver stars, bronze stars, purple hearts) it wasn't for the Jews -- it was against the mistreatment, abuse, ruthless aggression against Anyone. That included six (6) million Poles, the Chinese in Manchuria, etc. Of course, like all wars, there were lies and hype, there was a blindness to one's own or one's past actions but, you know, if someone blows up your fleet or knocks over your tallest buildings, killing thousands, you gotta fight back, right or wrong, and then try to sort it out. We're trying to sort it out. The apartheid, collective punishment, starvation blockades and ceaseless Israeli aggression mus

The Arab Peace Initiative: Arab Generosity, Israeli Intransigence
Seosamh Dalzell
by Seosamh Dalzell  8-8-2009    1
'There are no indications that the current American peace efforts are likely to produce any results. The Americans have, despite much persistence, lost the first and only round. Israel did not budge on the issue of stopping building settlements regardless of how trivial this issue is in comparison to others. Yet the Arabs have to shoulder the blame once more. To save face the American side had to deal with the issue of the settlement freeze not as a bilateral American-Israeli matter, but as part of a larger package. They conditioned Israeli compliance on Arab readiness for instant normalisation. This formula made it easy to press the claim that the Arab reluctance to start normalising must be blamed for Israeli rejection of the American demand of settlement freeze.'

The Israeli settlements are built on illegally occupied Palestinian land. Plain & simple. If it's illegal to start with, why should a settlement be allowed to grow naturally? The Occupied Territories are not part of Israel, they are conquered land. Palestinian land. And international law forbids military occupiers to colonize foreign territory. This the the basic fact that The Israel Lobby 's propaganda campaigns aims to obscure. This is what all those UN resolutions condemning Israel and their brutal Apartheid (the ones the US AUTOMATICALLY blocks) are about. The settlements, and the illegal colonists who live in them, have to go. And don't get started on the "This is the land God promised to us" bullshit. Go ask God for billions of dollars a year, not the American Taxpayer.

$33.4 Million US taxpayers money funds illegal Israeli Settlements!!!!?
ratcatcher2
by ratcatcher2  3-30-2009    7
Often the US charities will specify that their gifts are going to charities in Israel, even though the recipients are in the West Bank, which the US regards as occupied territory. American Friends of the College of Judea and Samaria said its donations were "to provide for the expansion and furtherance of the needs of educational institutions in Israel," even though the college is in the settlement of Ariel. A 2005 report by the Congressional Research Service stated: "The US stipulates that US aid funds cannot be used in the occupied territories." The issue came to a head during a 1992 dispute over the uses of US loan guarantees. A January 25, 1992, story in NYT said that Secretary of State Baker had cautioned Israel's ambassador "that the administration was not going to underwrite Israeli policies that fundamentally contradict its own principles and long-stated policies." ... fta

Fascist Zionist conspirators pull the US chain really hard. America's sob to a two state solution is sunk. How much US taxpayers will be needed to build these illegal settlements? How many years before the US pays again to demolish and rebuild these wandering thieves fortresses as in Gaza?  So the hard-pressed US taxpayer is funding the illegal settlers - the new Nazis intent on continuous expansion and war until the mythical 'Greater Israel' is attained!!! Then the Christian nut cases can welcome their Rapture. Pre-WW2, the world divided pretty much between the fascist Nazis and Communists/Socialists. All good Jews were very much anti-Fascist. And now, the Zionists are the fascist Nazis.!!! The former victims of man's inhumanity to man are now the perpetrators of inhuman crime against Gentiles on a grand scale, but still retain the beggar-bowl for regressed Christian Zionists to fill.

Secret Database Reveals Truth Of Israeli Settlement Agenda
ratilfar
by ratilfar  1-30-2009    2
From the quoted article: "The official database, the most comprehensive one of its kind ever compiled in Israel about the territories, was recently obtained by Haaretz. Here, for the first time, information the state has been hiding for years is revealed. An analysis of the data reveals that, in the vast majority of the settlements - about 75 percent - construction, sometimes on a large scale, has been carried out without the appropriate permits or contrary to the permits that were issued. The database also shows that, in more than 30 settlements, extensive construction of buildings and infrastructure (roads, schools, synagogues, yeshivas and even police stations) has been carried out on private lands belonging to Palestinian West Bank residents. Israeli History of Abuse of UN Peacekeepers
ratcatcher2
by ratcatcher2  1-16-2009    3
For which "frontier" would the UN then patrol? The UN border of the 1940s, the pre-1967 ceasefire lines – in which a pre-annexed East Jerusalem belonged to the Arabs – or the post-1967 border in which Israel claimed "annexed" Jerusalem, or the massive walled "frontier" which now bites deeply into yet more Palestinian territory – illegally in international law? And would the UN also have to "observe" the equally illegal Jewish settlements built on Arab land within the West Bank? Gaza sounds an easy option. The UN could place some international troops around Gaza. But it would only be a matter of time before they would be required around the West Bank. That would be a Palestinian dream – and, for those Israelis who wish to continue their expansion into Palestinian land – a nightmare. ... R.Fisk .

"Occupation 101" [2006 Israel/Palestine Documentary]
Spiritualmonkey
by Spiritualmonkey  1-12-2009    3
This is what the American Taxpayer foots the bill for to the tune of $2-3 BILLION EVERY YEAR. This is what Jimmy Carter, The Rev. Desmond Tutu, and people who were there mean when they say "Israel's 40-year-plus military occupation of Palestinian lands most closely resembles Aparthed South Africa". This is what the rest of the world sees, and why they wonder why the American public doesn't see things the same way. This is what the government is buying with our tax dollars, America. Yours and mine. I think it behooves you to take a closer look at what you're paying for. And maybe start asking questions about why we never hear this point of view regarding what we're paying for. All the illegal settlements Israel builds on Palestinian land, all the "jews only" roads that cross Palestinian land, cutting Palestinian communities off from one another and making travel almost impossible for non-jews... Everything that people like Jimmy Carter, The Rev. Desmond Tutu, and people who were actually there says looks frighteningly similar to (and often WORSE THAN) Apartheid South Africa... Is all made possible buy American Tax $$$. So just how much money are we talking about?

Secret memo shows Israel knew Settlements were illegal
ratilfar
by ratilfar  7-6-2008    2
The argument that the settlements are illegal, stated in successive UN resolutions, and by the International Court of Justice advisory opinion condemning the separation barrier in 2004, is reinforced by such an authoritative source. It strengthens the political case in any "final status" negotiations on borders with the Palestinians for genuinely equitable land swaps of Israeli territory to a future Palestinian state if Israel is to retain settlement blocks.

Peace Talks Yet Israel Dramatically Expands Settlements
DanaGarrett
by DanaGarrett  6-27-2008
Although peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians in the West Bank resumed in Annapolis MD, Israel continues to expands its illegal settlements in the West Bank. It's contrary to the Geneva Convention to transfer part of a conquering nation's population into territories occupied because of a war. Over 200,000 Israeli settlers violate international law every day in the West Bank, yet Israel continues to expand the settlements. If Israel wanted a better way to sabotage the peace process, then it would be hard put to find a better means than expanding the settlements. Yet the present Israeli government claims it has done more to reduce settlements than any other administration. A 90% increase is supposed to be a better record. What a joke.

Obama's missteps
Rasmus
by Rasmus  6-21-2008
Obama's unnecessary promise deviates from nearly six decades of U.S. foreign policy that held Jerusalem to be occupied territory under international law. This long tradition was first broken in 2004 when President Bush acknowledged Israel's demands to keep its illegal West Bank settlements in a final peace agreement, including those around Jerusalem. Thus Obama, a Harvard-trained lawyer, would both scorn the international legal system's foundational principle -- the inadmissibility of territorial acquisition by war -- and echo President Bush, whose failed Middle East policies he has rightly deplored. If Sen. Obama's Philadelphia speech on race was a model of courage and nuance, his AIPAC talk was brimming with the pro-Israel orthodoxy that typifies this year's presidential campaign. Like presumptive Republican nominee Sen. John McCain, Obama also backed Israel's so-called right to exist as a Jewish state.

The Loathsome Smearing of Israel’s Critics
papananook
by papananook  5-8-2008
The response? There was little attempt to dispute the facts I offered. Instead, some of the most high profile “pro-Israel” writers and media monitoring groups — including Honest Reporting and Camera — said I an anti-Jewish bigot akin to Joseph Goebbels and Mahmoud Ahmadinejadh, while Melanie Phillips even linked the stabbing of two Jewish people in North London to articles like mine. Vast numbers of e-mails came flooding in calling for me to be sacked. Any attempt to describe accurately the situation for Palestinians is met like this. If you recount the pumping of sewage onto Palestinian land, “Honest Reporting” claims you are reviving the anti-Semitic myth of Jews “poisoning the wells.” If you interview a woman whose baby died in 2002 because she was detained — in labour — by Israeli soldiers at a checkpoint within the West Bank, “Honest Reporting” will say you didn’t explain “the real cause”: the election of Hamas in, um, 2006. And on, and on.

...Unless your a Jewish settler. Living in the West Bank for generations virtually ensures you will NOT get building permission. Arriving in the last decade from somewhere in Russia or Poland increases your odds of permission dramatically. Is this not state ethnic cleansing by stealth. Is it any worst than the ethnic cleansing started by the Zionists 60 years ago even before Israel was voted official by the UN. Then millions were forcibly evicted from their homes. Now it's a gradual destruction of Arab houses and removable. Remember this is in the West Bank, in supposable Arab Palestinian.
