Mandated Mental Screening for Pregnant Women, Babies & Toddlers
Cupideros
by Cupideros  1-29-2009
The points are simple: The Mothers Act is a bill which will increase mental health screening of pregnant women and new mothers, despite the fact that the widely accepted treatment for women diagnosed with postpartum depression is antidepressant drugs — documented by the U.S. FDA to cause worsening depression, mania, psychosis, suicidal and homicidal ideation and birth defects. There is no language in the bill that would assure mothers are given non-drug options or accurate information about the subjectivity of the diagnoses (a checklist of questions) or the documented risks of psychiatric drugs. This violates informed consent and puts new mothers and their infants at risk. Messages to members of Congress that are short, concise and to the point are the best. CCHR International

Medical Student Burnout and the Challenge to Patient Care
Nerfzilla
by Nerfzilla  11-3-2008    2
Even surgical residency, despite the relentlessly long hours, seemed so much closer to what I wanted to do. Some of my professors tried to “humanize” the process. They invited us to dinner in their homes, supported our extracurricular efforts to set up health screening clinics in low-income neighborhoods, and tried to make our basic science courses more relevant to working with patients. But sitting where I am now, as someone who teaches medical students and who loves helping others as a doctor, I can understand the challenge they faced. Given the fire hose of information medical students must learn in just four years, how does one ever gently take a sip? Despite my teachers’ efforts, I was about as miserable in medical school as I had ever been. I felt alone. Neither I nor my classmates could admit to failure, and the last thing I wanted to do was to let anyone but my closest friends know just how unhappy I was. Success in medical school was the first step to a future of helping

The Man Behind the Anti-Obama Hate Fest
ratilfar
by ratilfar  10-13-2008    5
He prepared to run as a Democrat for Congress in Connecticut, where paperwork for one of his campaign committees listed as one purpose “to exterminate Jew power.” He ran as a Republican for the Florida State Senate and the United States Senate in Illinois. When running for president in 1999, he aired a television advertisement in New Hampshire that accused George W. Bush of using cocaine. A motion he filed in a 1983 bankruptcy case called the judge “a crooked, slimy Jew who has a history of lying and thieving common to members of his race.”

How Obama Became a Muslim?
AtlLiberal
by AtlLiberal  10-13-2008    2
The short clip is a snippet from the Times illuminating story about Andy Martin, a disturbed individual notorious for filing unsubstantiated lawsuits to such an extent that a federal judge barred him from further filing without approval. Jerome Corsi, author of Obama Nation, opens his book with a quote from Mr. Martin. The story is a look at the slimy underside of Conservative attack politics. One, regrettably, that McCain and his attack dog Palin, have embraced recently.

Pfizer Anti-Smoking Drug Gets Warning
Matthew Herper
by Matthew Herper  1-18-2008
File this under "drugs have risks." Pfizer's anti-smoking drug Chantix has been one of the company's biggest recent successes. Today, it's getting a warning that patients should watch for agitation, dpressed mood, or suicidal thoughts. This change upgrades a "precaution" that was previously put in the label to a "warning." Pfizer chief medical officer Joe Feczko said in a statement that Chantix is "a real breakthrough" and that he hopes the change helps doctors have a "dialogue" with patients.

a visualization of pervasive narrative development in a social web of influencers and connectors
Ryan Rasmussen
by Ryan Rasmussen  10-17-2007
Each node is a thread. Each connection is a link. The ability to influence the silent audience becomes easier to understand when the interface is modified to display the "social web." This is the value of converting brand 'talkers'/evangelists into better teachers through collaborative ideation and seeding indigenous collaborative web technologies for mass distribution of consumer generated marketing.

Collaborative Ideation
Ryan Rasmussen
by Ryan Rasmussen  6-8-2007
Collaborative Ideation is a tumblelog I use to synthesize voice and perspective for the various social networks within which I experiment. I started an online social media experiment a year ago with R&D in mind. However, I quickly discovered that a responsive online presence was a far more valuable tool as a new method for learning from customers.

Metaphor as Fact
AtlLiberal
by AtlLiberal  3-16-2007
Another example of religion confusing metaphor with fact. This "Atman" being separate and distinct from ideation is a fiction devised to uphold a religious principle. It is based on ideology and a desire to shore up a myth.
