Police cast a wide net to arrest anyone who looked Hispanic for any minor violation,” said report co-author Aarti Kohli, immigration policy expert at Berkeley Law’s Warren Institute. “The Hispanic community suspected racial profiling as the root cause of the increase in arrests. Our report backs that up.”

Federal authorities carried out the sweeps Wednesday, arresting hundreds of workers at Pilgrim's Pride chicken plants on charges of identity theft, document fraud and immigration violations. More than 25 people face immigration violation charges in Live Oak, Fla. They will also face identity theft or document fraud charges, ICE said. More than 20 were arrested in Batesville, Ark., on federal warrants for alleged document fraud or identity theft. DJs on a Spanish-language radio station told listeners to be careful Wednesday after reporting news of the raid. After the arrests, many of the dozens of businesses in town that cater to Latino immigrants had few customers or none at all. ''It's sad and scary,'' said Sheita Delacruz, who works at her mother's dress and gift shop. The poultry raids were the largest of the immigration enforcement actions across the country Wednesday. It was at least the fourth round of raids at U.S. poultry plants in the past three years.

Worksite arrests by ICE agents have risen dramatically, according to agency statistics, which show criminal arrests — mostly company managers and contractors — jumped from 176 in fiscal 2005 to 863 in fiscal 2007. And administrative arrests of undocumented workers in worksite raids have increased from 1,116 in fiscal 2005 to 4,077 in fiscal 2007.

POPSArresting a 6-yeaer-old? Aw, get real! Is this nuts or what? What was the big emergency that a 6-year-old and to be traumatized in such a brutal manner? It's hardly as if this was a life and death emergency where a delay of an hour or so was gonna make any difference whatsoever. Some people let their badge get in the way of their judgment. I fear we are more and more turning into a jackboot society.

Bush continues trying to make it appear that he is enforcing our immigration laws when all the while he is planning on not only giving aliens amnesty, but he is also planning on giving away health care and other privileges formerly reserved for American citizens.
