POPSAmnesty Now! Let’s play a hypothetical game. Let us assume that Gutierrez’s bill passes, and he achieves his major goal of a general amnesty. The 12 million aliens currently residing in the country illegally suddenly find themselves free to stay, become card-carrying members of the Democratic Party, and live happily ever after. What happens to the next person who steals across the border? History has shown us that, after an amnesty, the rate of illegal border crossings increases. After the last amnesty bill in 1986, the US experienced a flood of new illegal aliens crossing the border. In the twenty-year period between 1985 and 2005, the number of illegal residents soared from an estimated 2-3 million to about 11 million. It is only human nature that, upon hearing of an amnesty, people would, predictably, risk all to come to the US by any means and simply wait out their chance in the hopes of catching the next one.

POPSInvisible hand in invisible matter. Dark matter might not exist. Dr Famaey added, "If we account for our observations with a modified law of gravity, it makes perfect sense to replace the effective action of hypothetical dark matter with a force closely related to the distribution of visible matter." The implications of the new research could change some of the most widely held scientific theories about the history and expansion of the universe. Lead researcher Dr. Gianfranco Gentile at the University of Ghent concludes, "Understanding this puzzling conspiracy is probably the key to unlock the formation of galaxies and their structures." What about NASA's direct proof on dark matter's existance? Broken study? This is actually makes sense, but so far is a little hard to accept. Does anyone have any ideas about this?

POPSAversive Racism Yeah - you know how all those white people who hated Clintoncare weren't racist back then because Clinton was white. But if you oppose Obamacare or Cap and Tax you are racist now. When will the liberals realize that calling racist means nothing any more?

POPS"Computed: The world's most beautiful woman" more: Kleb's team spent six months deciding on the most perfect female ears, before finally choosing those of Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie as the best in the world. The lovely Lindsay Lohan was selected as having the most perfect nose, while Bernice's golden-blonde hair came from Jennifer Aniston. The hypothetical super-beauty's cheeks are based on those of Halle Berry. "Halle's surname is Berry, but her cheeks are like two lovely ripe apples," quipped Kleb. And for a mouth? "There we went old school," said Kleb. "Our analysis showed that the most perfect mouth belonged to none other than Marilyn Monroe." The final composite, pictured below, has now been revealed to the public for the first time. The McGill team will continue their work, to give Bernice a body that will match her beautiful face. "I can't say too much," said Kleb, "but I will tell you that the left breast belongs to Scarlett Johansson.

POPSHe Doesn't Get It . . . . would be doing this to Israel even if Iran was not the problem that it is. In any event, the double standard is egregious. Obama has torn up his previous understandings with Israel over the settlements while putting no pressure at all on the Palestinians, even though since they are the regional aggressor there can be no peace unless they end their aggression and certainly not until they accept Israel as a Jewish state, which they have said explicitly they will never do. On this, Obama is totally silent. So too is Dershowitz. That’s some omission. Next, Obama is pressuring Israel to set up a Palestine state " within two years this will exist, swaggers Rahm Emanuel. But everyone knows that as soon as Israel leaves the West Bank, Hamas " or even worse " will take over. The only reason the (also appalling) Abbas is still in Ramallah, enabling Obama to pretend there is a Palestinian interlocutor for peace, is because the Israelis are keeping Hamas at bay.

POPSObama Betrays Freedom Again " Take this hypothetical: imagine that Barack Obama announced that he was going to hold a referendum on legalizing a third term for himself. Imagine that even his attorney general, Eric Holder, advised him that it was illegal. Imagine that the Supreme Court ruled that holding the referendum was unconstitutional. In spite of that, let's imagine that Obama coerced the FEC into holding the referendum anyway. Then - let's further imagine -- we found out that Venezuelan strongman Chávez (who has pulled off a similar power grab in his own country) was financing the referendum. What should the Joint Chiefs do in such a case? And if they removed Obama from office, would they be destroying the Constitution or preserving it? "

POPSThe Howls Of A Fading Species
"Are we supposed to not notice that these are the tribunes of a party that rose to power on the filthy waves of racial demagoguery. I don’t remember hearing their voices or the voices of their intellectual heroes when the Republican Party, as part of its Southern strategy, aggressively courted the bigots who fled the Democratic Party because the Democrats had become insufficiently hostile to blacks. Where were the howls of outrage at this strategy that was articulated by Lee Atwater as follows: “By 1968, you can’t say ‘nigger’ — that hurts you. Backfires. So you say stuff like forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff.” Never a peep did you hear. Where were the right-wing protests when Ronald Reagan went out of his way to kick off his general election campaign in 1980 with a salute to states’ rights in, of all places, Philadelphia, Miss., not far from the site where three young civil rights workers had been snatched and murdered by real-life, rabid, blood-thirsty racists?"

POPSCreativity & Juxtaposition Designed by artist and architect Nils Norman, this fantasy map traces the Piccadilly line's route through an alternate London whose landmarks consist of utopian eco-fantasies (mushroom farms and geothermal energy platforms) alongside various post-war avant-garde architects' unrealized projects for the city.

POPSHoward Zinn's "Three Holy Wars" As a Conscientious Objector, I'm often asked if I would fight in a "good war" or a "just war" and after some deep soul searching I would have to say NO. Howard Zinn gives words to SOME of my contemplations about this dilemma. And then there were the very surreal hypothetical questions asked by those old white men on my draft board--"Would you defend your sister if she was being raped?" Of course I would, you old asshole, I just wouldn't KILL the rapist and I certainly won't go 8,000 miles to fight a war and kill people who never threatened my sister, dumbfuck!

POPSOut of touch... The defense budget is a sacred cow... one with a TON of fat. I should know, I worked on Star Wars in the 80's and 90's ... It's expensive and won't/doesn't work.

POPS-Zeptoseconds, Yoctoseconds, and Chronons http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZsusLw0XgM&feature=related Still, physicists keep coming back to the nicking of time. In the 1990s, they inducted two new temporal units into the official lexicon, which are worth knowing for their appellations alone: the zeptosecond, or 10 to the -21 power seconds, and the yoctosecond, or 10 to the -24 power seconds. The briskest time span recognized to date is the chronon, or Planck time, and it lasts about 5 x 10 to the -44 power seconds. This is the time it takes light to travel what could be the shortest possible slice of space, the Planck length, the size of one of the hypothetical 'strings' that some physicists say lie at the base of all matter and force in the universe. POPS Touchy Socialist Declares War on Business Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has been so slow to act that even Paul Krugman is criticizing the administration for “dithering.” On the tax hike, currently, the U.S. has the second-highest corporate tax on Earth and Obama is committed to ending any remaining competitive tax breaks. If any firms remain, they will be festooned with massive carbon-permit expenses because of Obama’s new cap-and- trade program. http://lawhawk.blogspot.com/2009/03/taxing-all-americans-through-cap-and.html Finally, Obama has set aside $634 billion to establish a health-reform reserve fund, a major first step in creating a universal health-care system. If you want to have health care for everyone, you have to give it to many people for free. Once we start doing that, we will never stop, at least until the government runs out of money. But don’t call him a socialist. It hurts his feelers.

POPSMakeup... But for dudes. …they’re intentionally poking fun at the ridiculous need in marketing to expand a product’s appeal to men by making a neutral or even feminine item seem hyper-masculine. It’s a great example, though of course over-the-top. I mean, obviously no company would ever use such obvious, ham-fisted, transparent tactics to market a product, so this is just hypothetical

POPSWould Your Clone Have Its Own Soul? "Oddly enough, though, I’d clone my beloved dead dog, Kit, in a heartbeat"; "Yet I also know that no matter how convincingly I expressed to you my scientific understanding that even identical twins have different environmental experiences starting from their different positioning in their mother’s womb, and the fact that this hypothetical canine clone was its own unique organism, my emotions would still fail to wrap around these empirical facts and I would indeed feel intuitively as though the puppy were Kit reborn." A clear description of some of the puzzlement we face when confronting the concept of cloning. what do you think?

POPSLet Us Now Kill Darwin "By propounding “Darwinism,” even scientists and science writers perpetuate an impression that evolution is about one man, one book, one “theory.” The ninth-century Buddhist master Lin Chi said, “If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him.” The point is that making a master teacher into a sacred fetish misses the essence of his teaching. So let us now kill Darwin."
