POPSVote at the General Assembly; Resolution Condemning “Defamation of Religion"
of a radical Islamist ideology.” The text “recognizes that, in the context of the fight against terrorism, defamation of religions and incitement to religious hatred in general become aggravating factors that contribute to the denial of fundamental rights and freedoms of members of target groups,” and expresses “deep concern” that “Islam is frequently and wrongly associated with human rights violations and terrorism.” “Today’s resolution comes at the same time as an Algerian-chaired UN committee in Geneva is seeking to amend the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, by adopting a protocol that would conflate the existing post-war prohibitions on racism with the Islamist agenda of silencing religious dissent,” said Neuer. “A full measure of the perils of today’s resolution must account not only for intimidation of Western writers and cartoonists, but the growing international legitimization of medieval anti-blasphemy laws"in countries like Pakistan, Egypt

POPS A Modest Proposal by Ken Blackwell
I have a modest proposal. There is one thing we could do that would make a small contribution to lowering temperatures: We could bury, not burn, the bodies of unborn children who have been aborted under Mr. Obama’s health care takeover. Currently, the practice is to incinerate the hundreds of thousands of bodies cruelly of those denied the right to life. If we really seek “common ground” on this contentious question, we might start by giving the unborn children a decent burial. Liberal writer Naomi Wolf has written movingly of the “baby furies” that she felt were pursuing her after her abortion. She noted that in Japan, there are touching ceremonies of little paper boats with candles floated down slow-moving rivers. These ceremonies are designed to help women cope with this most terrible of choices. Part of the terrible contentiousness of this question is the unwillingness of most liberals even to concede that the unborn child is a child. In 1983, the U.S. Supreme Court .....

POPSObama with Blood on His Hands n reality, U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have operated under standing orders to "call for fire" (an air-strike) whenever resistance fighters take cover in a house or apartment building, even when large numbers of civilians may also be inside the building. The overriding priorities have always been to avoid risking American lives in dangerous house searches and to kill "insurgents." Human rights reports by the U.N. Assistance Mission to Iraq (UNAMI) have documented many such incidents in which civilians have been killed, as well as extensive discussions between U.N. and U.S. officials about them. For instance, in its human rights report for the 2nd quarter of 2007, UNAMI insisted that American air strikes in densely populated civilian areas were violations of international law. American attitudes to protecting civilians in wartime and other requirements of international humanitarian law differ sharply from those of people in other countries.

POPSAnother brilliant move by Obama.... Changing one word in its name, the Human Rights Council instantly resumed its former practices: ignoring massive human rights violations around the globe and condemning Israel. POPSThe Blind Leading the Stupid-U.S. must demand accountability for due process and torture in Iran But The Washington Post thinks the U.S. should vigorously object to Iran's "obvious lack of due process" as a central part of these negotiations. What would be the purpose of doing that? Creating a jovial mood for the negotiations at the outset by provoking a massive group laughing fit? But due process denials aren't the only Iranian "human rights" violations The Post wants the Obama administration to raise in these negotiations. No, there's more Iranian evil for us to protest: The cases of torture and rape of prisoners courageously documented by opposition presidential candidate Mehdi Karroubi should be as worthy of discussion as the non-nuclear subjects that Iran wants to bring up.

POPSEasy to be Hard - In Russia and China's UN Stall As long as China and Russia back up the Burmese Generals by stopping concerted international action against Generals eating their own people, it's easy for them to do as their horrific hubris urges them on to new heights of inhumanity toward their own people.

POPSA Case Study in UN Hypocrisy only after the council president expanded the examination to include both sides. In contrast to the original mandate, Goldstone speaks only of "alleged" violations. In other words, he is trying to conduct a genuine inquiry despite having been appointed to a farcical one. It's a tricky feat. When the inquiry last week invited not only Palestinians to speak, but Israeli victims as well, Goldstone introduced something new to the UN. He deserves particular credit for inviting Noam Shalit, father of abducted Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, held incommunicado by Hamas since 2006, and denied access to the Red Cross. Yet whatever balance Goldstone may bring, the inherent problem with his mission is that it plays into the collective strategy of the council's repressive regimes, which is to cover up abuses in places such as Iran, China, Pakistan, Russia, Egypt and Zimbabwe -- all ignored this year -- and instead shine a permanent spotlight on Israel.

POPSU.N. body adopts resolution on religious defamation
Defamation of religious is a serious affront to human dignity leading to a restriction on the freedom of their adherents and incitement to religious violence," the adopted text read, adding that "Islam is frequently and wrongly associated with human rights violations and terrorism." It called on states to ensure that religious places, sites, shrines and symbols are protected, to reinforce laws "to deny impunity" for those exhibiting intolerance of ethnic and religious minorities, and "to take all possible measures to promote tolerance and respect for all religions and beliefs." ISLAMOPHOBIA, CHRISTIANOPHOBIA, ANTI-SEMITISM The 47-member Human Rights Council has drawn criticism for reflecting mainly the interests of Islamic and African countries, which when voting together can control its agenda. Addressing the body, Germany said on behalf of the European Union that while instances of Islamophobia, Christianophobia, anti-Semitism and other forms of religious discrimination s

POPSIranian Fascism Calls For More Than Strong Words
In fact, they are even telling the EU to forget about any negotiations until they apologize for their meddling in Iran's pure elections, like the provocations Newsweek's Maziar Bahari and all the protester 'confessors' have already testified to on Iran's State-Run Media. We have been down this road before. The diplomats of the 1930s League of Nations overlooked every egregious political and human rights violation in Nazi Germany in order to negotiate peace with Hitler, as Obama seeks to with Iran today. It is a hopeless exercise in futility that can come to no good end. Fortunately, much more sensible heads appear to lead today's Europe regarding the Third Reich of our age. Only Obama and Russia seem to believe in the Chamberlain approach. Yet with the political and financial power each wield at G8, it is unlikely any sanctions would be enacted without their approval. This is their revolution. Let them handle it any way they see fit. But what will most definitely not help the

POPSUN to Emerge as Global IRS This spells the end of the U.S. as the world’s leading economic power. The UN and the IMF have positioned themselves as the world’s socialist authority whose ‘duty’ it is to spread the wealth to underprivileged nations in an attempt to form a more ‘balanced’ financial situation through a new global reserve currency, and a new global credit facility. The nerve center of this emerging new international socialist system will be the United Nations, a body that has developed a reputation for corruption and incompetence and whose "peacekeepers" have been implicated in sexual abuse and other human rights violations. This is in effect setting the foundation for that ‘new world order’ that so many people have dismissed.

POPSAmnesty International launches "Demand Dignity" campaign In the 2009 report "State of the World's Human Rights", Amnesty International said that human rights were being relegated to the back seat in pursuit of global economic recovery. The world's poorest people were bearing the brunt of the economic downturn and millions of people were facing insecurity and indignity. World leaders are failing to tackle human rights abuses around the globe, Amnesty International says. It says world leaders should apologise for 60 years of human rights failures since the UN adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. The group also challenges them "to re-commit themselves to deliver concrete improvements".
