POPSRights Watchdog, Lost in the Mideast The organization is expressly concerned mainly with how wars are fought, not with motivations. To be sure, even victims of aggression are bound by the laws of war and must do their utmost to minimize civilian casualties. Nevertheless, there is a difference between wrongs committed in self-defense (Israel) and those perpetrated intentionally (Hamas and Hezbollah).

POPSHuman Rights Abuse in Russia In a street in central Moscow tributes remain on the pavement where the most recent murder of a journalist and human rights campaigner took place. No one has been convicted or even arrested. Russia's human rights record is the worst in the western world. The country is the biggest single source of cases at the European Court of Human Rights. The majority of Russians get their national news from television - all of which is state controlled.

POPSThe Stoning of Soraya M (www.thestoning.com) A shocking and true drama, it exposes the dark power of mob rule, uncivil law, and the utter lack of human rights for women. The last and only hope for some measure of justice lies in the hands of the journalist who must escape with the story -- and his life -- so the world will know.

POPSUN to Emerge as Global IRS This spells the end of the U.S. as the world’s leading economic power. The UN and the IMF have positioned themselves as the world’s socialist authority whose ‘duty’ it is to spread the wealth to underprivileged nations in an attempt to form a more ‘balanced’ financial situation through a new global reserve currency, and a new global credit facility. The nerve center of this emerging new international socialist system will be the United Nations, a body that has developed a reputation for corruption and incompetence and whose "peacekeepers" have been implicated in sexual abuse and other human rights violations. This is in effect setting the foundation for that ‘new world order’ that so many people have dismissed.

POPSIndonesian abuses in Papua Australia owes a debt to Papua and to Timor because of their support and assistance in WW2 and our semi-colonial role in these countries. We have abandoned them both to the tender mercy of Indonesia. pah

POPSIran Crisis: Live 6/24/2006 Salon has a powerful article, with disturbing images, about a 17-year-old student who it says was horrifically beaten by the police in Tehran. The torture of a 17-year-old in Iran A teenager's story, with graphic photos, of abuse at the hands of Iran's religious paramilitaries, the Basij 12.15pm: A group called Human Rights Activists Iran has more details (including photos) of the students arrested since the election. 12.20pm: The Iranian authorities and their lackeys in the state-controlled media are trying to launch a counter-offensive on the Neda phenomenon, writes Robert Tait. Javan, another pro-regime paper, http://english.farsnews.net/ blamed an even more unlikely source - my friend and recently expelled BBC correspondent Jon Leyne. It claims that Leyne hired "thugs" to shoot her so he could then make a documentary film. Meanwhile, the government has forbidden hospitals from releasing deaths certificates that give shooting as the cause of death.

POPSIsraeli Troops Humiliate Palestinians - and Put it on YouTube I'm more than appalled at the behaviour of the Israeli border guards. To make things even worse, youtube has decided to pull this video and others, showing this brutality. If we're ever going to be able to condemn and stop this kind of abuse, we have to made aware of it first and youtube's blatant censorship of this, and anything even remotely "uncomfortable" to them, is the equivalent of modern day book-burning! "Jewish Voices for Peace" appeal to everyone, to ask youtube to put the videos back up. You can read more about it and send youtube a letter, here: http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/301/t/9047/petition.jsp?petition_KEY=1990

POPSChristian Love? While not applicable to to all Christians this report does cast an accusatory finger to the Catholic Church and its well known predisposition of cover-ups and lies to protect their own. IMO, another damning pronouncement of religion in its many guises.

POPSProtecting the Innocent? This man probably ought to be put to death, but our society does not allow that. Instead it allows perverts to infest ghettos of ignorance and evil because certain words have been expunged from our language. Good, evil just for two. Now we have infringed the perpetrators human rights by not allowing cross examination of a four year old victim. Just the thought of putting a child through such abuse ought to sentence the perpetrator to a life sentence on Rockall.

POPSDemand Accountability for Torture I was watching MSNBC News and the scrolling marquee at the bottom of the screen read that Pres. Obama has assured CIA operatives they would not be prosecuted for their rough interrogation tactics. The marquee whizzed by and disappeared. I thought to myself, "oh, that can't be true". A short time went by and there it was again. That night Keith Olbermann's Special Comment was on that very subject and what he had to say was riveting. I know Pres. Obama has a lot of work to do to clean up the mess the Bush/Cheney Adm. left behind but to allow those who tortured others, (whether it be through orders or as Rush Limbaugh would put it "JUST TO LET OFF STEAM"), off the hook, IS WRONG!! Two words enter my mind NAZI GERMANY. I guess the Nuremberg trials were a mistake and all those guilty of unspeakable acts should have been allowed to live their lives out normally.
