POPSThe social value of knowledge Beware Googlitis. The act of classification is a natural function of language which has helped people make sense of the world for time immemorial. The automated key-word search process removes this act and experience from people's relationship with knowledge at their peril. Googlitis is the resulting mental condition of contextless confusion and solipsism which makes it impossible to share anything beyond evanescent novelty, robbing communities of shared memory.

POPSA-I WILL SURPASS HUMAN INTELLIGENCE
As we humans, we understand one another. If Artificial Intelligence supplants Human Intelligence, we may ALL be up shit's creek without a rowboat. If the Cybernetic Revolution, continues, counteracting the Natural Order of Things, then everyone's value becomes equalized in the greater scheme of existence. The danger lies in that the value may be Zero. Our Technological Future is not in the interest of Mankind but in the interest of Technology. If I had my "druthers," in the choice between two evils, I'll take the one that's flesh and blood. With the Future bearing down on us in time periods that are accelerating exponentially, "Terminator," "The Matrix," and "I, Robot," may not be as far-fetched as we believe. Unfortunately, the train has already left the station. I fear the Game is already afoot. There are no reset buttons to start over again. Just as in all MMORPGs, such as "World of Warcraft," there are no Winners or Losers, the Game just goes on forever.

POPSU.S. Officially Sold To China While this article is about the Supremes' ruling on the "Citizen's United" case, it also points out a very interesting fact about Chinese interference in our government. While I do not pursue information on Israel and "Zionism" (whatever that may be), I am aware that the Chinese hold most of our debt, and, like any other Third World country in debt to a wealthier nation, he who holds the debts will call the tune to which the indebted must dance. Hence, Afghanistan, through which the Chinese would very much like to run a pipeline or three, in safety. Quote from the Atlantic below: "The U.S. budget deficit is financed by borrowing. More and more of that money comes from China, now the United States' second-largest lender, after Japan. China's investment in U.S. government debt has more than tripled in the past five years, from $71 billion in 2000 to $242 billion in 2005". By 2007, China owned $1.6 Trillion in U.S. securities.

POPSThe Moment Social Media Became Serious Business I cannot, but take this opportunity to say that the title of our next 'Master Class' is 'Content analysis: Using taxonomies to improve collaboration' (see http://openintelligence.wordpress.com/2010/01/06/content-analysis-using-taxonomies-to-improve-collaboration/. The conclusion that Web 2.0 collaboration is the new game is timely too, since the link to the Harvard Business Review is fresh, through Twitter. And here I are doing a bit of business promotion on Amplify. How do people feel about that?

POPSCaring is a Human Quality Also from the article: Regular F&R readers might recall that earlier this year we saw that unbelievers were among the fund-raising leaders at Kiva, the international Internet person-to-person micro-lending site. When I checked in July, the unbelievers were leading other special interest groups including churches, raising funds to uplift the world's poorest.

POPSForex Robots:The Best Money Spinning Strategy Forex trade, just like any other known trades, still depends on human judgments. So a good trader must understand that forex robots can only be as capable as its user will be. A robot is fine for something, but it can never be fine for the whole lot.

POPSdailycaller.com Tucker Carlson Launches New Website MIT economist and federal contractor Jonathan Gruber denies conflict of interest despite advocacy for Obama health plan By Aleksandra Kulczuga 01/11/10 Widely cited health-care economist Jonathan Gruber, a professor at MIT, accepted money from the federal government at the same time he advocated for reforms proposed by the Obama administration. Prominent journalists who have quoted Gruber’s work extensively, from Ezra Klein at the Washington Post to Ron Brownstein at the Atlantic, have expressed surprise upon learning that Gruber received at least $392,600 in sole-source contracts from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in the last year. more at ....... http://dailycaller.com/

POPSShamWow™Guy Evaluating The Health Care Reform–For $300,000–Is Also The Package’s Single Biggest Champion? Gruber was one of the prominent analysts to rebut an insurance industry report from PricewaterhouseCoopers in October saying premiums would shoot up if a health care bill passes. And he has recently written columns defending specific provisions in the House and Senate bills, particularly the "Cadillac tax" on high-cost insurance plans... But a column in The Washington Post on the Cadillac tax just a few days later did not disclose his relationship with the administration. Gruber was listed merely as a "professor of economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology." Government documents explaining the terms of his contract say that he was "uniquely positioned" for providing analysis for the health department's assistant secretary for planning and evaluation, describing him as a "recognized expert in health policy in economics." That's what we call an infomercial, kids.

POPSCitrus surprise: Vitamin C boosts the reprogramming of adult cells into stem cells "Our results highlight a simple way to improve iPSC generation and provide additional insight into the mechanistic basis of reprogramming," concludes Dr. Pei. "It is also of interest that a vitamin with long-suspected anti-aging effects has such a potent influence on reprogramming, which can be considered a reversal of the aging process at the cellular level. It is likely that our work may stimulate further research in this area as well." POPSGerrymandering: The Two-parties working together! It seems the two parties can co-operate just fine! Unfortunately that only seems to be when it's in the interest of the politicians themselves and, of course, their 'actual' constituents... "i don't feel safer from the threat of terrorism- by means of torture-etc.......not anymore now than i did during the "daze" of bush"

POPSThe Something Awful/Paypal fiasco
More: I'm not going to tell people to close their Paypal accounts. I'm not going to say all their actions were completely unwarranted. I'm just presenting my experience with them and will allow you to draw your own conclusions. However, I harbor a fundamental disagreement with their business practice of assuming all their clients are filthy criminals who must repeatedly prove their innocence to a series of unmanned servers and computer systems. I do not support their ability to freeze entire accounts, take money from whoever they want at whatever time they want, and impose whatever arbitrary rules and regulations they deem necessary without having to answer to any organization. Every single cent in every single Paypal account is earning their company ungodly amounts of interest in their central bank account. They offer users credit cards and the chance to put your money into interest-generating accounts. So exactly why are they not under banking and FDIC rules again?

POPSClimategate: Science corrupted Here is an example how scientific collisions spilled out onto unsuspecting public. Excessive public (read journalists and even paparazzi) attention in science is always leading to speculations and manipulations. And usually difficult to say who manipulating by whom: scientists by politicians or vice versa. I believe scientists must carefully follow each rule of scientific ethic and be scrutinized in this matter every time they attracting interest of wide auditorium. The main question here: Is it new trend or ordinary fluctuations? And polar bears soon will not be able to float around on a floes. As is their custom on the North, they said... ;)

POPSHere Are Some Important Passages in the 2,000 Page Legislation.
Eviscerating Medicare: In addition to reducing future Medicare funding by an estimated $500 billion, the bill fundamentally changes how Medicare pays doctors and hospitals, permitting the government to dictate treatment decisions. Sec. 1302 (pp. 672-692) moves Medicare from a fee-for-service payment system, in which patients choose which doctors to see and doctors are paid for each service they provide, toward what's called a "medical home." (The bill specifies that patients may have to settle for a nurse practitioner rather than a physician as the primary-care provider.) Sec. 1114 (pp. 391-393) replaces physicians with physician assistants in overseeing care for hospice patients. • Secs. 1158-1160 (pp. 499-520) initiates programs to reduce payments for patient care to what it costs in the lowest cost regions of the country. Sec. 1161 (pp. 520-545) cuts payments to Medicare Advantage plans (used by 20% of seniors). Advantage plans have warned this will result in . . . .
