New row over Colombia-US accord
ratilfar
by ratilfar  11-5-2009
Venezuela has broken off diplomatic relations with Bogota and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has warned that Colombian military bases could be used by the US to attack his country. Other countries in the region, including Brazil and Chile, have also expressed concern. The BBC's Jeremy McDermott, in Colombia, says Colombia is increasingly isolated in the region, but does not seem to care, just so long as it has US support.

Obama’s Energy Czar: Socialist Agent For World Government Socialist International
merrie
by merrie  10-18-2009    1
Barack Obama’s “climate czar" Carol Browner has been exposed as being a member of Socialist International, a highly influential group headed by a Bilderberg Group luminary that calls for the implementation of global government, despite Socialist International’s attempts to seemingly “memory-hole” information about Browner on their website. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand that Obama and his cabinet are preparing to exploit fearmongering about global warming to push new measures of taxation, regulation and internationalism. Obama himself has vigorously promoted the revival of a bill that would slash carbon emissions by 80 per cent, a move that would inflict a new Great Depression, cost millions of jobs, and sink America to near third world status. Obama has also publicly stated his intention to create a new infrastructure of “green brigades” and informants to regulate every aspect of our behavior in the name of saving in the name of saving . . .

Honduras
mklosinski
by mklosinski  10-12-2009
America's Founding Fathers—like the framers of Honduras's own constitution—believed strong institutions were necessary to defend freedom and democracy from the ambitions of would-be tyrants and dictators. Faced by Mr. Zelaya's attempted usurpations, the institutions of Honduran democracy performed as designed, and as our own Founding Fathers would have hoped. Hondurans are therefore left scratching their heads. They know why Hugo Chávez, Daniel Ortega and the Castro brothers oppose free elections and the removal of would-be dictators, but they can't understand why the Obama administration does. They're not the only ones.

Obama: From Savior to Leftist Windbag in Nine Months
merrie
by merrie  9-27-2009    3
Hugo Chavez got a big round of American-hating applause when he said “it doesn’t smell like sulfur in here anymore” in reference to President Bush whom he had previously referred to as the devil. Words are cheap and Obama used a whole lot of them to promote his socialist-light agenda to the nation last year. There might not be much in the ways of original ideas floating around in his head - just a collection of discarded Democrat lost causes from the past half century or so - Obama has convinced himself that as a man of destiny he doesn’t have to bother with trivial matters like telling the truth or keeping his word. In an effort to sell healthcare reform to the nation that it doesn’t want, Obama habitually plays fast and loose with the truth. It’s gotten to the point where he can barely speak on the subject for longer than a few minutes without someone wanting to cough up the word “liar” in the background, just like Rep. Joe Wilson did last week.

The UN Loves Barack Obama Because He Is Weak
merrie
by merrie  9-24-2009    1
Not convinced about that last “seething with anti-Americanism” line, though. I think the world actually loves America. That’s why the world is all trying to get here. The world just has a bit of an adolescent attitude toward America’s dad-like role in the world. . . I’d say it’s more the United Nations General Assembly that is seething with anti-Americanism. Get back on topic, Nile! OK, here we go: It is natural that much of the UN will embrace an American president who declines to offer strong American leadership. A president who engages dictators like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Hugo Chavez will naturally gain respect from the leaders of the more than 100 members of the United Nations who are currently designated as “partly free” or “not free” by respected watchdog Freedom House. The UN is not a club of democracies - who still remain a minority within its membership " it is a vast melting pot of free societies, socialist regimes and outright tyrannies.

Now Venezuela Wants to Go Nuclear
merrie
by merrie  9-20-2009    2
Others are a little more skeptical, and rightly so. The Hudson Institute’s David Satter wrote yesterday (emphasis ours): The intention of Russia to help Venezuela develop a nuclear power plant is no more innocent than the help that Russia gave to Iran. Both Russia and Venezuela will emphasize that Venezuela has no intention of creating a nuclear weapon. But by facilitating contact between Russian and Venezuelan officials in the area of nuclear energy, the stage is set for black-market operations involving technology that can be used in nuclear weapons. Russian help for Venezuela can provide a cover for the development of nuclear weapons. Perhaps more important, it opens up a new channel for the transfer of Russian nuclear know-how"this time by way of Venezuela"to the enemies of the U.S. As the Trumpet has explained , Hugo Chávez has put Venezuela at the vanguard of the growing anti-American movement in Latin America.

RA in Moscow Times:Clan Politics of Russia, Venezuela, and Iran
merrie
by merrie  9-18-2009    3
the leaders of these three countries regularly employ the powers of the state in support of clan-controlled businesses, especially in the energy and arms sectors. When Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin travels to Venezuela (he visits Caracas with extraordinary frequency), there is little to no separation between his diplomatic duties and personal financial interests in inking deals between Rosneft and PDVSA. When the Iranians travel to Caracas, they are given a red carpet welcome to jointly operated factories and the assistance of elaborate money-laundering networks. Chavez's family and close-knit clan of loyal military officers have become multibillionaires under his rule. Known as the boligarchs, they benefit directly from the alliance of Russia and Iran since it lends much-needed credibility and legitimacy to their plunder of the country.

Venezuela to Get Russian Missiles
merrie
by merrie  9-12-2009
Venezuela is involved in a long-running diplomatic stand-off with neighbouring Colombia, over the latter's plans to allow US troops greater access to its military bases. Colombia says the US forces will help in the war against drugs and left-wing guerrillas and will not destabilise the region. Mr Chavez, a fierce opponent of US foreign policy, did not say how many missiles he had ordered. Russia has been strengthening its ties with several Latin American countries, including Venezuela. The two countries held joint naval exercises in Venezuelan waters last November. BBC NEWS http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8251969.stm

The Chávez/Iran Nexus breaks into the MSM
Roque Nuevo
by Roque Nuevo  9-10-2009    1
Finally! One mad genocidal dictator in alliance with another mad genocidal dictator... what else is new? Well…for most people it is news. But now I hope not for long. You can ask, if the WaPo editorial is true, then why are we harping on Israeli settlements as the key to world peace? Why are we obsessed with reforming the health care system? And so on. Is there a contradiction here? I don't think so: Obama is in the midst of an unprecedented expansion of the state and little issues like Iran's nuclear capabilities and genocidal intent against Israel are not helpful, according to his thinking. He's wrong: the state has expanded historically on the wings of war. He can't expand the state while at the same time promoting a pacifist agenda, as much as this will satisfy his legions of followers.

game plan hasn't worked out so well for Venezuelans. And check out the poor schlub sitting next to her. You can almost read his mind. How the heck did I get stuck sitting next to this national embarrassment? After "reforming" health care, the National Socialist Democrats will target the energy industry. Whether through cap-and-tax or some other stealthy mechanism, Democrats will punish more job creators as certainly as night follows day. And If Waters is really the best that Californians can do, I would recommend that residents start evacuating now. Posted by directorblue

Can Honduras Be Saved From Communism?
merrie
by merrie  9-5-2009    1
in order to defend their friend Zelaya. Unfortunately, some authorities in the U.S. have fallen for that version, without really knowing what went on. Why is Obama siding with Chavez and Castro on this matter? I believe that, on the one hand, Obama is beginning to show his socialist tendencies, which were denounced during the American presidential campaign. On the other hand, Obama is letting himself be influenced by several presidents of Latin America, particularly Lula of Brazil, who is the real power behind the São Paulo Forum. Can Honduras be saved from Chavez? I think it can, but it requires the participation of all citizens, not only of Latin America, but of the U.S. as well. Honduras is facing tremendous pressures, and will not be able to bear them without the help of the world public opinion. Every article, every interview, in favor of the Honduran democracy helps to defend their institutions against Chavez’s assault.

Hugo Chavez of Venuzuela: New Laws: Saint or Sinner?
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  8-15-2009    4
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is a very interesting person, making profound changes in his nation and strong in his opposition to many U.S. policies. He's in the headlines today for new laws that cut out state support for Catholic education in the schools, introduction of "socialist doctrine," (about'The Liberator', Simón Bolívar), restrictions on hostile media and (gasp!) rights of the government to expropriate property. He opposes Israeli policies of warmongering, apartheid and genocide, is not only forming alliances with Russian and Iran but is building up a substantial coalition of Central and South American countries. The clip here is about the U.S. now planning to put "troops on the ground in Columbia," - (after a lifetime of covert military actions --- Columbia is one of the USA proxy armies in the region). He's also called George Bush the Devil (good for him) and he disdains the game of golf (probably shouldn't have mentioned this). Saint or Sinner? ¿Otro
