POPSPilocchio's Broken 72-Hour Online "Pledge" Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office tells THE WEEKLY STANDARD that the speaker will not allow the final language of the health care to be posted online for 72 hours before bringing the bill to a vote on the House floor, despite her September 24 statement that she was "absolutely" committed to doing so. House members are still negotiating important issues in the bill--whether it will provide taxpayer-funding for abortions, for example. Pelosi is pushing for a Saturday House vote, and a number of big changes will be introduced, likely less than 24 hours before the vote takes place (if in fact it does). The Rules Committee hasn't yet released its resolution, or rule, that must be passed before the bill can move from committee to the floor. The rule will set the terms of debate and determine what amendments are in order. It seems likely that the rule will allow very few, if any, up-or-down votes on amendments on the House floor.

POPSDo you have trouble falling asleep? It is ironic that I found this article given that I have had trouble sleeping the last few days. My problem is not that I can't go to sleep, it is that I wake up early and then can't go back to sleep. I use relaxation exercises, visualization and even a warm rice pack but to no avail. When I go on vacation, I sleep in every day with no problems. There is probably an insight to be gained there. Do you have trouble falling asleep? What do you do to get a good nights rest? When you get back to your home or hotel room, a simple immersion in an ice bath for 15 minutes will prevent this happening to you!… Do not get a post event massage until a minimum of 2 hours after finishing the race…Do not try any new stretches or have someone stretch you out again until 72 hours have passed… Give yourself two or three days of rest before starting your training again. Try a nice swim in these days, but allow yourself some recovery time.

NASA's Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) satellite is already hard at work analyzing rainfall, to provide meteorologists with an idea of what can be expected when the storm hits. NASA and the Japanese Space Agency's TRMM satellite flew over Typhoon Mirinae on October 29 at 1018 UTC and measured its rainfall from space. Mirinae had moderate rainfall between .78 to 1.57 inches per hour around its center. TRMM images are made at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. and take some ingenuity to create. If you extrapolate out it won’t be long before the 5-hour marathoners will be the new elite and they will complain about the slow marathoners. Where will it end? It won’t. As long as there are people who need to use others to feel good about themselves it won’t end. As long as there are people for whom excellence is relative it won’t end. So, I’m not going to worry about it.… Standing at the start line of a marathon – or any race – or any training run – you only have to answer one question; am I prepared to do my best today? And that’s all I have to say about that.
