POPSSevere storms leave four dead in Missouri, Kentucky on Friday Glenn Bryan, 68, was watching weather reports on television while taking shelter in the basement of his Pomona, Missouri, home when the power went out. He went upstairs to find a radio just as a tornado came through. Bryan grabbed a door handle "and hunkered down," he told CNN affiliate KYTV. "Couldn't hold on much longer," he said. "I thought I'd be gone to the woods." The back of the house blew away, a tree shattered a large window in front, and his friend's pickup truck flipped upside down, KYTV reported. "I was stupid" for leaving the basement, Bryan told the station, "but I wanted to know where the storm was ... and I found it. I found it."

POPSObama kicks up WH entertaining. The thing he does best: partying and talking. We, of course, are paying for all of this "entertaining" while we are being told that we're going to have to tighten *our* belts, prepare for higher energy costs, support a corrupt welfare system, and bailout mismanaged businesses. He's a figure-head...our Nero who fiddles (parties) while our Nation burns. The most encouraging words were "We are just temporary occupants." He's welcome to leave anytime and take Emanuel with him.

POPS $1.2 Million Maryland House Raffle Ticket $50
However, like many homeowners these days, the Walkers are having a tough time making their mortgage payments. They need to sell, but instead of taking their chances in a struggling real estate market they've decided to hold a raffle. The task is daunting. The Walkers need to sell 31,000 $50 raffle tickets. But, their idea has captured people's imaginations. INSIDE EDITION visited the Walkers as they held an open house. Everyone who came was excited at the idea of winning the stunning home. Some wanted to purchase more than just one ticket! While it's hard for the Walkers to give up their dream home, having a raffle made that heart wrenching decision a little easier. "It's a win win win," Tom tells INSIDE EDITION. "We get to sell our home in a tough market. We're benefiting a worthy cause and one lucky person could change their life by winning a million dollar home. A percentage of the raffle proceeds will be donated to We Care and Friends Charity www.wecareandfriends

POPSSecret US-Iranian Dialogue Shakes Up Mid East Alliances and the Sunni guerrilla insurgents in Iraq, to allow President Bush to claim his Iraq campaign had ended successfully before leaving the White House. DEBKAfile’s military sources report that Tehran ordered Iranian intelligence officers working undercover in Iraq to halt attacks on US troops by pro-Iranian militias, including Moqtada Sadr’s Mehdi Army. This has left US and Iraqi government force with free hands for large-scale operations against al Qaeda. Read Full Article

POPS Earthship Kirsten's photos Earthships are earth-sheltered autonomous buildings made of tires rammed with earth, which are usually arranged in "U" or horseshoe shaped modules. Each tire is rammed full of earth manually using a sledge hammer. Windows on the sunny side admit light and heat. The open end of the "U" shaped structure faces South in the northern hemisphere, and North in the southern hemisphere, so that the house will catch maximum sunlight in the colder months. An Earthship is designed to interface with its environment wherever possible and create its own utilities. Internal, non-load-bearing walls are often made of a "honey comb" of recycled cans separated by concrete. The walls are then usually thickly plastered, using the pull-tabs on the cans as a lath to hold the adobe and stucco. This is known as a tin can wall. The roof of an Earthship is heavily insulated. POPSDemocratic Senators Thwart Bush Appointments More: "Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, announced December 19 that he would keep the Senate open with a series of "pro forma" sessions through mid-January." "Reid refused to approve Bradbury because of concerns about his involvement in crafting legal opinions for the administration on interrogation techniques of terrorism suspects." Maybe there is some hope that the Democrats will do even more to stop the tyranny of Bush and his administration. Go Dems!

POPS Stop Her Now
Hillary Clinton owes a great deal of her popularity her shrinking standing in recent polls notwithstanding to an odd sort of nostalgia surrounding her husband. Rank and file Democrats generally hold him in high esteem and friends and critics alike admire his formidable political skills. Her eight years in the White House give her an aura of, if not actual, experience. But his recent statement that he was against the war in Iraq “from the beginning” points to the risks involved. Thanks to these almost offhand remarks, Bill once again made the news cycle about him and the potential negative impact on his wife. He also raised the difficult and unhelpful issue of the slippery nature of both Clinton’s positions on the war in Iraq. The question of whether Bill is good for Hillary’s campaign is still an open, and popular debate. He is nearly unmatched when it comes to retail politics something that clearly can’t be said of his wife; and he is still very popular with Democratic voters.

POPSPakistan On The Brink I won't be long before most people in referring to Muharraf will join that long and inglorious line of petty despots as one of "our bastards". There is a pattern that has evolved over the years that highlights our countries ability to choose the most expedient solution to complicated socio-governmental issues and end up with ineffectual and corrupt swindlers in place as heads of failed governments. The people of Pakistan appear to be screaming for a democratic rule of law in their country to the deaf ears of Musharraf and his military regime. It will be to our advantage to pay close attention to where this all leads.

POPSSpiegel: George, the Worst, Goodbye. A footnote. "Gingrich, once crowned Time's "Man of the Year," cannot help but be pleased that Americans have welcomed the break with Bush with open arms. Gingrich, who has repeatedly and semi-publicly toyed with the idea of throwing his hat into the presidential race, recommends that his party base its new strategy on turning its back on Bush.

POPSSolomon’s House from the article :"When I think, however, of the young children who are unprepared to critically assess the museum, my sense of humor fades. POPSOnce Again, Religious Fundamentalists Bring Harm in the Name of God. Religious fundamentalists, this time of the Jewish faith, set off a pipe bomb in Jerusalem to protest the annual gay pride march. When will religious people begin to realize what hypocrites they are by inflicting harm on innocent people in the name of their God? Or are they just so blind to their own ignorance and intolerance that they cannot see the discrepancy?

POPSMahdi Army Capitalizes on Amer.Discontent It is always all so obvious. You just know that the negative, loser statements, along with the speeches and explanations needed to try in vein to counter the negativity, all serve as comedic fodder and ample warning for any groups and fighters meant to be targeted. And they do as always,---hide arms and uniforms and hide behind their families. When they sacrifice those women and children, some of you really need to withhold the kneejerk judgement when you don't really know who the real victim is. The revised mission is probably wasted and ,personally, I hold the enemy within responsible---from the start.

POPSChanging the ethics of the house Because we all know there is nothing more ethical than to be able to take your money. What is even more sneaky was the way they didn't change the rule, just added a new rule that allowed them to set aside the rules by a simply majority vote.

POPSJudges, Judges. Overreaching? Arlen! Are you kidding me? Mike Wallace, one of Bush's nominees, was given the unqualified label by the ABA. Remember when Specter used to be the voice of moderation? I would have though the midterms would have forced him more to the center.

POPSNew Poll: Democrats Open Up Giant Gap Before Midterm Elections Government corruption, Iraq and terrorism were the three most important issues to poll respondents. They said Democrats would do a better job on all three. The party had a 21-point advantage on handling corruption and a 17-point advantage on Iraq. A longstanding GOP advantage on terrorism vanished; Democrats had a 5-point edge. Yet another set of record-breaking poll results in.
