Two guys who have been talking about maybe attacking a shopping mall for more than 8 - eight - years are charged with plotting the ultimate act of terrorism attacking Macy's or JC Penny's, or Filene's (OMG!) I think about two guys in the old make-believe Friend's Bar talking for eight years on how they might rob a bank - and then they get charged with plotting to rob the Bank of Boston! It could be true but it's a bit hard to take seriously this week.

In addition, the fake group managed to secure space at the prestigious National Press Club to host a "press conference" announcing its change in climate change position, according to the real Chamber. Several reporters were in attendance, I'm told, unaware that this was all a big joke. The event would have gone off without a hitch except for the fact that an actual Chamber spokesman was tipped off to the shenanigans and moved quickly to break it up. A reporter interested in covering what she thought was a real event inadvertently showed up at the Chamber's office on H Street instead of the press club. But whatever happened yesterday, I have a sneaking suspicion the flying Jiffy Pop balloon was not originally conceived, built and being tested as an innovative commuting vehicle. It’s not for nothing Shepard Smith and everyone else was comparing that thing to a UFO yesterday. Maybe, like the Richard Dreyfuss character in ”Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” Richard Heene was just strangely compelled to make his experimental 3DLAV commuting device look like a traditional Roswell-inspired flying saucer hoax.
