POPSWWII: Some of what happened and why. This is a good short article. My thought as I read this is could we..in the world be looking at history repeating itself? Most people seem unaware of what is going on. The main news sources don't record many things. Most people are happy running their rat race..living day to day...they don't question why? Or don't look deeper. Just some thoughts.

POPSOne telling similarity between the the Wehrmacht and the US Military A very interesting insight into the how effective the US military is at doing the wrong thing, as Fabius Maximus says "From a larger perspective this article shows how the 21st century US military is locked into a historically common trap. No matter how good, it remains harnessed to US elites’ geopolitical thinking " poorly reasoned, emotional (ruled by hubris and fear). Our military apparatus consistently provides professional, smooth execution of bad strategy. We do the wrong thing, but brilliantly." Some clips below but follow the links for the full article.

POPSThe Berlin Wall's Fall [MUSIC VID - TAYLOR SWIFT]
♫ And it's a sad picture, the final blow hits you Somebody else gets what you wanted again You know it's all the same, another time and place Repeating history and you?re getting sick of it But I believe in whatever you do And I'll do anything to see it through Because these things will change, can you feel it now? These walls that they put up to hold us back will fall down It's a revolution, the time will come for us to finally win We'll sing hallelujah! We'll sing hallelujah! Oh So we've been outnumbered, raided and now cornered It's hard to fight when the fight ain't fair We're getting stronger now from things they never found They might be bigger but we're faster and never scared You can walk away and say we don't need this But there's something in your eyes says we can beat this 'Cause these things will change, can you feel it now? These walls that they put up to hold us back will fall down It's a revolution, the time will come for us to finally win

POPSObama Rejects Afghanistan-Vietnam Comparison Obama does not believe that comparisons between Afghanistan and Vietnam are accurate, for his sake, I hope he is right. Meanwhile the recent move to increase tariffs of Chinese tire imports may lead to tit-for-tat from either side. Though finally Obama believes that there is no need for any further economic stimulus packages, the worst is over.

POPSNaming Infinity Naming Infinity is a book about one such case, where a disputed, controversial form of mathematics was taken up by Russian mathematicians because their religious views allowed them to accept the philosophical ramifications of that research.

POPSDéjà vu: Where fact meets fantasy "Déjà vu can happen to anyone, and anyone who has had it will recognise the description immediately. It is more than just a sense that you have seen or done something before; it is a startling, inappropriate and often disturbing sense that history is repeating, and impossibly so. You can't place where the earlier encounter happened, and it can feel like a premonition or a dream. Subjective, strange and fleeting, not to mention tainted by paranormal explanations, the phenomenon has been a difficult and unpopular one to study. Now that is changing...."

POPS History Repeating
Late last night I visited one of the local Walmart stores and swung by their ammunition counter to see if supplies at one of the largest retailers was as scarce as individuals around the country has related on various Internet forums. "We just a got a shipment in!" the gentleman behind the counter told me. The shelves were still at least two-thirds empty, but he did indeed have several thousand rounds of 7.62x39mm and .223 Remington rifle ammunition, along with an equal amount of 9mm, 40S&W, and 45ACP pistol ammunition. He told me it would be gone by sunrise. He claimed that since late October demand had gone up, and that since Obama won the election, it went through the roof. When he has ammunition to sell, he's pushing out 10,000-15,000 rounds per shift late at night. Two Saturday night's ago, he sold 5,600 rounds to one customer. Many people are buying significant amounts of ammunition for their personal supply, from thousands to tens of thousands of rounds each, . .

POPSHas NASA's Hansen Finally Lost His Mind? Of course, horror fans immediately recognize Origin of Species Extinction as a recurring theme in many a Hansen spook-story. Remember how last year's testimony that opening Kingsnorth would lead to the extinction of no less than "400 species" helped convince an OJ-caliber British jury that the criminal vandalism to the plant by six Greenpeace activists was "proportionate response" to the environmental damage the plant would have inflicted upon the region? "The most threatening change, from my perspective, is extermination of species. Several times in Earth's history, rapid global warming occurred, apparently spurred by amplifying feedbacks. In each case, more than half of plant and animal species became extinct. Forgive me, but I doubt one need be a rocket (or, for that matter, a climate) scientist to appreciate the sophistry at play here. Hansen he concluded that "Clearly, if we burn all fossil fuels, we will destroy the planet we know,"

POPSHistory repeats itself Will you please take the time to read this, and if you think it worthwhile, pass it along to your email list, and ask them to read it? Even if they voted, with all good intentions, for Mr. Obama? I am a student of history. Professionally. I have written 15 books in six languages, and have studied it all my life. I think there is something monumentally large afoot, and I do not believe it is just a banking crisis, or a mortgage crisis, or a credit crisis. Yes these exist, but they are merely single facets on a very large gemstone that is only now coming into a sharper focus. Something of historic proportions is happening. I can sense it because I know how it feels, smells, what it looks like, and how people react to it. Yes, a perfect storm may be brewing, but there is something happening within our country that has been evolving for about ten - fifteen years. The pace has dramatically quickened in the past two.

POPSDiagnosis Brain Drain The young woman had a history of migraines but was otherwise healthy. She took no medications. She worked in an office and lived with her parents. On exam she no longer had a fever. Her eyes were sometimes open, but she was completely unresponsive, even to pain. Full article at source.

POPSA Butler Well Served by This Election I think it's probably a fair criticism that there's been a little too much talk about the historic nature of this election. It's no doubt historic -- it's just gotten a little bit too breathless at times. Lots of journalists have been grasping at a story that captures the history, but a lot of the stories have just relied on repeating "historic". Now, if you agree with my premise, that it is historic but it's been a bit overblown, then you probably wish there was one, really great story, that captured it all, right? Here it is -- the story that everyone else wishes they'd written.

POPSHistory Is Repeating, When Will the Masses Wake Up? "At the present time, behind the scenes there is a night-and-day movement of collateral. A visiting Englishman leaving the United States a few weeks ago said things would look better here after "they cleaned up the mess at Washington." Cleaning up the mess consists of fooling the people and making them pay a second time for the bad foreign investments of the Federal Reserve Board and the Federal Reserve Banks. It consists of moving that heavy load of dubious and worthless foreign paper — the bills of wig makers, brewers, distillers, narcotic drug vendors, munition makers, illegal finance drafts, and worthless foreign securities — out of the banks, and putting it on the back of American labor. That is what the Reconstruction Finance Corporation is doing now. They talk about loans to banks and railroads." ...
