Police cast a wide net to arrest anyone who looked Hispanic for any minor violation,” said report co-author Aarti Kohli, immigration policy expert at Berkeley Law’s Warren Institute. “The Hispanic community suspected racial profiling as the root cause of the increase in arrests. Our report backs that up.”

My Spanish is pitiful, my Cantonese non-existent, and I don’t like being the one who is struggling to keep up. But it’s essential. To me, my work on intersectionality and race is an essential part of my geek feminist identity. It’s about deconstructing how I feel when I am the marginalized one, and applying those insights to other spheres of my life, where I am the one doing the marginalization. It’s about belonging to a community that does real work and overcomes real challenges. This is what I want for my daughters.

That’s a government health care system that works. Oh? So why is it going bankrupt? Isn’t that the reason for the new system? This one of course is much bigger, so the bankruptcy will be much more painful and destructive. But there wouldn’t be a need for this “solution,” and the price of medical care wouldn’t so outrageous, if progressives hadn’t devised the present system in the first place. So one rule for conservatives should be this: Don’t be so polite. When progressives propose their progressive solutions, remind them of the hell they have inflicted on the people they claim to want to help — gays, blacks, Hispanics, children. POPSFunding Is at Stake for a Clinic That Treats Patients No Matter Their Status; An Issue 'No One Wants to Touch' During 2006, the hospital had to write off $12 million in "charity care" -- or services provided to low-income patients who couldn't pay their bills. The charity helped create a $4 million budget shortfall that year. "They were getting the most-expensive care for what should be treated in a primary-care facility," Ms. Glubka says. She began shopping the idea of a clinic for low-income residents. Sutter and another nearby hospital, Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, each committed $100,000 annually over three years. Solano County's board of supervisors voted 5-0 in 2008 to contribute $250,000. Ms. Glubka enlisted the help of La Clínica de La Raza Inc., a network of 27 nonprofit community clinics in the San Francisco Bay Area. The clinic opened last November, down the street from Sutter hospital. Sutter hospital's emergency-room staff now refer about 60 patients a month to La Clínica.
