Now Hindus are Offended
AtlLiberal
by AtlLiberal  6-22-2008    9
Oh dear. Now the world's Hindus had their feeling hurt by a Mike Myers's movie. From all accounts it boomed at the box office but none the less Hindus are claiming that teens... Never mind. This is so stupid that I can't even muster outrage over it. These nut jobs have surpassed themselves.

Fighting for a Downgrade
CrazyRedHead
by CrazyRedHead  6-1-2008
Cultural divide — The Hindu social and cultural system in India is divided into castes that are inherited or married into and has been dated to 1,000BC — There are thousands of castes and subcastes in India. Hinduism ascribes degrees of purity to different jobs — Brahmins are traditionally the priestly caste, while Dalits are a “scheduled caste”. Dalits and tribal communities represent half of India’s poor population — Caste discrimination was outlawed in 1950, and 22.5 per cent of university places and government jobs were reserved for Dalits and tribal people

Religion makes the otherwise intelligent person do stupid things. It makes the otherwise good person do evil things. Religion is much more responsible for stark raving, anti-human, pro-stupid fanticism. Ironically the stupidest things come out of the religion belt in the middle east: Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Islam -- same asylum. p.s. The man should be so lucky. He's much better off without her.

I can't help thinking that there is more to this story than meets the eye. Even when one reads the full version, rather than the bits I've cited in the clip, itg seems that there is more in the subtext than in the text itself, one needs to read between the lines to find the iddues that everyone seems to be trying to avoid.
