POPSObama's Wrecking Crew Charles Krauthammer Hillsdale College Professor Paul Rahe writes: Krauthammer's point is simple and unassailable. There is, he argues, an intimate connection between the foreign policy being pursued by the Obama administration and its domestic policy. The work undertaken in the domestic sphere by what I have called "Obama's wrecking crew" will, he points out, put a stop to the pattern of dynamic economic growth that made it possible for the United States to defeat Japan, contribute decisively to the defeat of Nazi Germany, contain communism, and ultimately defeat and prepare the way for the dismemberment of the Soviet Union. It will produce economic stagnation of the sort that the Europeans have suffered from for decades, and it will eventuate in a collapse of the American dollar This, as Krauthammer shows, Obama and his minions understand, and this they want -- the elimination of the foundations for American hegemony and the crippling of this country.

POPSWhy Not Appoint Chris Dodd As Gift Czar? I was at Hillsdale College last week, and one of the young ladies said this would have been a totally cheesy present if you'd been given it by your boyfriend. Yet the government of the world's superpower thinks you need better "attention to detail" and an "eye on the ball" to ensure you don't give discount DVDs of E.T. and Lawrence Of Arabia to the head of government of your closest ally (and principal military partner in Afghanistan), especially when he has deteriorating eyesight and doesn't watch movies. That's not a "detail" — unless you're as narcissistically self-absorbed as the British now think the Obama crowd are.

POPS Winter Vengeance Depending on how much more fell Monday as the snow trailed off, the storm could rank as one of the city's 10 worst on record. "It is amazing," said Dave Thompson, spokesman for the Oregon Department of Transportation. Kim Osgood, who owns Paloma Clothing in the Hillsdale Shopping Center in southwest Portland, served hot cocoa on Sunday and gave away $24 crampons - foot gear for ice and snow climbs - to anyone spending $50 in her store. Temperatures in Chicago - hard hit over the weekend with subzero readings as winter officially began - were up to the single digits Monday and could rise to the mid-20s Tuesday. For the mid-Atlantic states, the storm took the form of weekend snow and rain - followed by a cold snap early Monday. High winds overnight cut off power to 13,000 homes and businesses in Maryland. Baltimore Gas & Electric said on its Web site that all but 1,200 had service restored by midafternoon.

POPSDeclaration of Independence from England not God Reliance upon God was the foundation from which our forefathers brought forth this great nation. And it is that continued dependence upon Almighty God that shall sustain us as a great nation. Declaring our Independence from God would only lead us into a path of destruction and oblivion.

POPSTeenage mayor in training for later political life. Michael Sessions, the 19-year-old mayor of Hillsdale, Michigan has been charged with computer hacking. Is he just a young man doing the dumb things young people do, or is he a junior politician in training for more profitable crimes in the future. Who knows? The Shadow, perhaps? (Man, did I just date myself, and anyone else who understands that last reference.) :-)

POPSSymmetry between the Intentionality of Minds and Machines? (Publications by Bence Nanay - linked)
From the (unclippable) pdf (first paper): One of the most influential arguments against the claim that computers can think is that while our intentionality is intrinsic, that of computers is derived . If one aims to argue that computers can think, one needs to address this supposed asymmetry between the intentionality of minds and machines. The standard way of explaining away this asymmetry is to argue that the intentionality of computers is not derived at all. Dennett chose a different and rather surprising strategy for arguing against the asymmetry between human and computer intentionality. he endeavors to argue that human intentionality is derived too. computers are designed by programmers, we are designed by natural selection . The intentionality of computers is not intrinsic, since computers are designed by humans. Similarly, human intentionality is not intrinsic either, since humans are designed by natural selection.
