POPSChristian, Remember This Is What It Is All About Where are the Christians on free speech? Journalists are being raided at the Republican National Convention and they continue to support the party that encourages such behavior. Don't they see the connection? Are they going to wait until they are personally affronted? It will be far to late if it isn't too late already. What they need to do is start speaking out, buy a video camera to record incidents like this, and let others know. The Republican Neocons are monitoring your response and when they see you pull the covers over your head, they will attack us all. Newsweek Mar 2007 reported that 80% of Americans claim to be Christian. If this is so, where is the light, where is truth, where is hope in any degree compared to what your Lord brought? If you said you follow the god of darkness I would believe you.

POPSDigital Divide - Is it the Chicken or the Egg? I've read a lot about the so called digital divide a lot in various news outlets and agree, it's definitely a real issue and one that needs to be addressed. However, this article made me think whether or not having access to the Internet is the issue. Especially when I see the statistic that only 29% of people who haven't graduated high school have Internet access. Is the real issue education? Is it not that some groups don't have access to the Internet, but that the lack of quality education they receive leads them to not realize or understand why access to information on the net is so valuable? I don't know the answer to the question, but I do know our public school systems are terrible in many places. Maybe we need to focus on educating our youth. If we don't, even if they do get Internet access, what will they really do with it?

POPSTodd Palin Digs into Job Creation for Alaskans Todd Palin — oil worker, champion snowmobiler, hunter and commercial fisherman — also has been boning up on mining lately in his role as Alaska's first spouse. The companies that paid for the flights, a normal means of travel to remote and often roadless parts of Alaska, are both in the early stages of a lengthy approval process. A month after the first visit, Todd Palin toured the Red Dog Mine, a lead and zinc operation in the northwestern part of the state. That company is currently seeking permission to mine a new deposit, which would extend the life of the mine to 2031.

POPSAbstinence or a condom in every pot Over the past two decades, as more and more school systems have implemented abstinence programs, the rate of teen pregnancy has declined. The number of high-school students who say they are virgins has increased, and the abortion rate has dropped. Is all of this good news due to abstinence-only programs? It’s a complex subject, and the evidence remains inconclusive. And clearly any school abstinence message is practically drowned out by the vulgar and licentious culture all around us. Still, we may be slowly climbing out of the hole we’ve dug for ourselves. The last thing we should be doing is declaring abstinence education a failure.

POPSDrugs with Suicide Side Effect Whether or not any of these drugs cause suicidal thoughts and behavior is the critical question we need to answer; up to now, we have not answered that

POPSEducation Not Oil As Empire For all the hard work of our good teachers, our system is failing to keep pace with the demands of a new century. Entrepreneurial charter schools such as KIPP, Uncommon Schools, Aspire, the Inner-City Education Foundation, the Alliance for College-Ready Public Schools and Green Dot demonstrate what a single-minded focus on excellence can achieve with low-income students" Try investing in we the people. It's an investment that will pay off.

POPSDems comment on Palin Pick Clearly, McCain thinks women are stupid enough to fall for his pseudo-Hillary. Comparing Palin to Hillary Clinton is like comparing a high-school freshman to a PhD grad (actually, that almost has some truth to it...)

POPSPolice Eject a Man from Yankee Stadium for Trying to Use the Bathroom During "God Bless America" When I was in High School, I would refuse to bow my head in prayer: I'm an atheist and refused to pray to any god, especially while at school, during regularly scheduled school hours. Once, some "Christians" a few seats away from me started eying me and telling me to "Bow your f***ing head you Satan worshiper or we'll kick your f****ing ass!"… This is exactly like that, except this time the "Christians" are "Police" and kicking your ass means telling you what and who to pray to or face police harassment by ejection and threats of bodily harm.

POPSPeople dressed as sci-fi characters Awesome! That guy really looks like Jean-Luc Picard. I wonder why the family with the Klingon dad had the curtains pulled? I like the one with the cat on the hearth-rug, too. And the kid Darth Vader.
